Title: 'Echo Blade' Zelda: Needs Feedback for Balancing~

Echo Blade Zelda
The Official Thread

Recent News:
- Now that she's been released, people have to tell me what's good, and what ain't. Gotta make her fair, ya know?

- Besides the shrinking and the occasional edits, I plan to put the next step of this project on hold. I have a few ideas I'd like to finish first =P

I need feedback on which moves are overpowered/underpowered. I don't want her to be too broken~

Info:

- Zelda is fire-based ["wow soo overdone blah blah"] the same way Sheik has electric-based attacks.
- The Echo Blade will obviously be used in the majority of her attacks.

Physics:

- Air Mobility increased.
- The Echo Basics:
  + Moderate speed increase
  + Weight decrease [85 to 70]
  + Footstool boost

Jab: The Beckoning
She swings her arm, and hitboxes pull you closer. Simple, effective.

F-Tilt: Quick Step
She dashes, then disappears? She then reappears, burning your face. Yum.

+ Hold down A to slash with your blade instead!
+ There are THREE variations of this move, controlling which way you teleport, depending on the way you tilt. Including the sword variation, there are SIX possible moves. Have fun learning which is which!

She lifts her hand, effectively igniting whoever happens to be above her. Simple.

F-Smash: Ike Called, He Wants His Move Back. [name pending]
As the sword comes down, the dude caught in it gets it multiple times before the launch.

+ The tip is mad weak ['cuz it's the farthest blah blah blah]. Hit with the center.
++ The real reason is I'm having hitbox problems, but w/e. This works too.

Same move as before. With FIYAH. I made it a tiny bit bigger, and removed a sourspot.

Bair: That Ain't Puff
Standard 'My foot's gonna stick out for a really long time, and I'll abuse this move many more times to steadily push you farther away from the stage' kick. Trademarked by Jiggs.
Tidbits:
+ This and Fair can be L-canceled =P Try it, if you're holding a shield command when you hit the ground, the animation lag will be cut in half. My little tribute to Melee.

Neutral B: Sacred Light
This allows access to a new set of moves! As legend has it [I don't know which, but it's legit], there are only three sacred weapons, held by the worthiest of heroes: the sword, the shield, and the jewel.

Tidbits:
+ In the air, it cancels most of your momentum. That's pretty useful, I must say.
+ You have to reload it every time you use one of the 'special' moves. Kinda annoying, kinda fun.

New F-Air and F-Tilt: That Ain't Mario
What? An Echo shield? That's pretty sick. It stays out for a while, and turns people around. A fun, yet tricky edgeguard.

+ She gets knocked backwards a bit, especially in the air. It could be useful, or completely screw you over.

How about for the neutral B you use the entrance animation where she prays and then puts her hands to her side and a gfx radiates from her. Have her do that, only when she puts her hands down, make a fire gfx appear around her, dealing little knockback, but it still has great growth. Deals 4% per hit, because its multiple hitboxes, there's a chance the character could be hit by the attack multiple times causing a lot of damage

well first off for sheik, her side b needs to be an attack where she dissapears and jumps forward with a sword slash (use Kyzon's Link's side b and you will know what im saying)

but for zeldas up b, when she disapears add wind hitboxes, and when she reapears, have her make a sword slash

her upsmash could also have the uairs explosin on the last hit

keep dthrow the same, only set the angle to 10E, unless you want to make the dthrow her dsmash

the side b could be three hand strikes, the first 2 stunning and the last one giving knockback

also, go for the dual wield

- Unfortunately for Sheik, you can't map hitboxes to her Side-B. Believe me, I've tried. Maybe just a teleport then? =P

- I actually really like your Zelda Up-B idea =D Maybe I'll use it.

- I actually AM using the explosion effect, I was debating that for either U-Tilt or U-Smash.

- It doesn't seem like much of a D-Smash, but why set it to 10E? That spikes...wait... =P

- Where would I get hand strike animations?

- And yeah, I'll be trying the dual wield, but I gotta find good animations.

yeah, i realized it sounded more demanding less like ideas halfway through typing the post, i tried to reword it but i guess i failed. and i now realize that i missed a "need" in sheik's side b. so just so u know, i was throwing out ideas.

but for the hand strike animations you could use Attack100 and AttackS3S or AttackS3Hi without effects. the third strike could be one of her swing animations

Hmm.. shouldn't Sheik be the one dual wielding instead? Sheik would be focusing on powerful close range attacks, and Zelda would be focusing on effective longer ranged attacks. So.. Zelda should have moves where she uses her powerful magic to extend her Echo Blade's length, should would have less hits since it's only one blade. Sheik, with her dual blades, would have more hits in her attacks.

Here's a neat idea, since it's called "Echo" Blade, if you were to picture echoes, it would be repeated sounds getting weaker and weaker.. so.. I think a single swing of the Echo Blade would have multiple hits in them but each hit getting weaker than the last one. Maybe make each swing 3 hits instead of just 1, if it seems too cheap, just make the "echoes" unable to flinch people.

the jab attack deff has a weird hitbox.
Side B goes off the side.. but maybe thats intended...

Hmmm She for sure competes with my Kyzon for most amazing Recovery in Brawl :P

not sure what down tilt does. but nothing much so far for me

Hmm thats about all i can say.. i'm having too much fun right now with her :P

Jab and D-Tilt aren't working: apparently someone didn't read the main post. XD

I want to make it that using Side-B in the air makes her freefall...it's really annoying =.=

Those tilts have been there since Sheik; they just don't look quite as awesome. Sheik is way more graceful =)

I've just gotta touch up the hitboxes, and finish up half of my B move. It might be out tonight, or maybe early tomorrow. All that's left after that is balancing. =)

The Neutral B still needs some work...I'll probably release it tomorrow, since there's still some work to be done.

Honestly, the Echo Blades are probably going to be specific to Zelda and Sheik, only because the sword graphics are exclusive to them. Granted, I could make another character just like them and just use another graphic...I could probably even expand on that char farther, seeming he or she'd have no shared file size limit...

But it just wouldn't be an Echo Blade to me =)

Nope, no video yet. I'm missing roughly 2-3 moves from the final completion, so you really wouldn't be missing out on much =P

I think this'll be my last beta before the final release on the staff blog. I'll probably destroy the beta link and the moveset a week before that, just because =D

For her f-tilt, she teleports forward, and if you....:

Hold the button, she will slash with her sword

Do not hold the button she uses a fire attack

There are 3 variations of the same attack depending on which dierection you f-tilt, coming to a grand total of 6 attacks all in (sorta) one command

I've decided to hide the download and the moveset after one more day, so hopefully when I release the 'Final' version, it'll be a bit more of a surprise =P

I plan to revamp a number more moves than I expected, but you guys can still play around with the beta til I find time to finish it, which could easily take a month or so, due to new school pressure. So enjoy the beta you guys, and wait for my Zelda's return! ^-^

I'm tweaking it now, should be done eventually. It doesn't help that I can't really work on the weekdays.

Yeah, v1.4 is the smallest complete version currently out. It SHOULD work with all Zelda PSAs, unless that Zelda is abnormally HUGE. Like, 350 KB is huge.

its being uploaded rite now, sooo in a couple of hours. i made two videos: one just showing her moves, and one thats a brawl against ROB at random. srry if i pause alot in the 1st one cuz while i was recording i was reading her movesets (which confused me for a minute but i gotem down) and in the 2nd one i wasnt able to show all her moves cuz well... i was brawling and some moves werent called for. like... if u play as mario, how many times will you use is dtilt?

Btw, I still need feedback about Zelda: which moves should be nerfed and which strengthened. Right now, D-Tilt seems to be the most useless move...any ideas for a new move?

I actually preferred Zelda's regular Down Tilt cause it was so evil. xD But... Hm... I'm not so sure at the moment. Anyway I've been playing around as Echo Blade Zelda and I noticed a few things.

Her USmash can't seem to hit characters who are shorter than her if they aren't on the side where the last hit is and they just escape it. Maybe you could give it a stronger pulling effect? If that's too overpowered then ignore me. xD

For some reason her new DSmash doesn't seem as strong as her original one. It's rather minor to me so it's not a problem but I'm just sayin'.

Her Dash Attack goes REALLY far and most of the time for no reason. It hits the target a few times and then zooms past them. Perhaps that is what you were going for? Hit and run? If so then I understand and also ignore this.

After using her Neutral Special and then doing a Bair... What does that even do? xD I haven't even been able to successfully hit someone with it yet. Not even a training dummy. That's pretty much it for me. Otherwise Zelda seems pretty okay to me.

1) twilight princess blew mah mind. but honestly, i could only play thru it once or so, then half way thru it again i get bored. the ds ones... i really dont like as much. theyre TOO innovative, u kno? its cool to use the touch pad once in a while, you hafta use it for everything.

2) i make my own brstm files. ifya want, i can send you the sigma music + a lot of other music from different games too.

3) when u say image change, do u mean the custom character screen portraits. i guess it works for brawl+. i dunno how brawl+ works. to my knowledge, theres a program that installs brawl+ for you by installing a code and putting pac files all over the place. dont take mah word for it tho...

I seem to be having a problem with the moveset. I put it in Zelda's folder and named it FitZelda.pac, but her moveset is still the same. I can't figure out what went wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

I seem to be having a problem with the moveset. I put it in Zelda's folder and named it FitZelda.pac, but her moveset is still the same. I can't figure out what went wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

on your SD card, did you make sure that the file has the file extension ".pac"? Because sometimes, usually on Windows XP, some of the .pac files didnt have the extension at the ending after extracting the files.

I think that may be it. but it doesn't reqally make sense I'm using the Echo Blade Sheik. Is there a different version of Sheik's PSA that will let me use Zelda's or vice-versa?

Here, these two WILL work together...at least on MY Wii. Rename them FitSheik.pac and FitZelda.pac apropriately, and put them in the right folders. Until I find time to shrink Zelda, these'll do.

Plans:
- I'll probably map the B-Air to N-Air, and by tapping A you can hover or drag your opponent along with you. - F-Air will be put on B-Air, and it'll hit behind her [BThrow Aanimation]. Makes it a little less awkward.
- N-Air will be mapped to F-Air: I'll probably give it a little more knockback and make her move forward, so this move can actually be used. =P

Does that sound okay?

Right now I'm working on Blanka DK, and I'll clean up Zelda while I'm at it...maybe I'll even give Sheik a new move ^-^

I might also make a second Sheik thanks to Alma's 'Clone Engine', if DK turns out well. I wanna base it off a combo of Cammy/Chun-Li/Juri. That should be pretty fun.

But yeah. My real goal, Project Phantom? Until I have a reasonable amount of free time on my hands, it's still only in my mind, ruminating an such.

That's my portfolio as of now ^-^

I actually made a forum account just to post on this thread. EchoBlade Zelda is by far the best PSA of Zelda I've seen so far. She's original, cool, and almost fully balanced. I'm going to start playing around and taking notes on what could be adjusted for V2, since I'd love to see a perfect version of EchoBlade.

-Her side-B making her invulnerable is actually very overpowered, and is probably the main reason why I'm reluctant to use her against other people.
Ideas:
+Simply take out the invulnerability. The attack itself is so versatile that she probably won't end up being knocked away anyway.  
+Make the Reckless Charge a Sacred Light charged ability, making it so that it can't be used over and over in succession. You can give her a Din's Fire-esque attack while not charged...I miss Din's Fire...
+Make Reckless Charge an attack like Ike's Quick Draw side+B, although that'd take away from the originality that defines EchoBlade.

Edit#1:
-Her F-smash is really cool, but I think that it's a bit too strong to it's good speed. I was playing a few matching and found how easy it was to link this to a dash attack and K.O. at about 70% or so.
Ideas:
+Cut the speed and keep the power the same.
+Cut the power a bit and keep the speed the same.
