Title: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Ricky (Br3) on November 15, 2012, 06:14:35 AM
I was thinking about making a topic specifically for models that were made by the community, and not imported from somewhere. Take this as a showcase topic, where you can post progress on any model you are building, for discussing and receiving feedback. If you want to post a link for a model you created already, feel free to do so. I believe a lot of people will want to see what you've got to show!

Well, I guess so, since you're creating something new, even if it's got parts of an existing something.

Idk. Probably.

Of course, if I was planning to use it, I'd lower the count.

Might wanna make the OP cleaner and add the different models there, Br3. If this gets enough attention, I might sticky it. :P

Making Omnimon's garurucannon my way. Since there weren't really any direct references.
The model I have of him didn't come with a cannon on the inside of the head.

Huh. This thread looks interesting. I have a few:

Kumatora
(http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab8/Spex130/Prev7Angle.png)

Happy and Smile.
These renders were made for art instead of preview though, so they're a bit flashy...

Naga-Ette
(http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab8/Spex130/NagPrev1.png)
From Chrono Trigger. Might put it over Peach or Zelda when I get a chance.

These are just the 100% custom ones though. Are we allowed to show our model edited ones too?

And these are 100% Customs I completely forgot about in my last post, haha.

Egg Salamander WIP
(http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab8/Spex130/EggSalaPrev1.png)
It's the Final Boss of Sonic Rush. Or, Half of it at least.

Mr. Glow
(http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab8/Spex130/MrGlowPrev.png)
Made as practice. My first Custom Model.

X-Face
(http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab8/Spex130/XFacePrev.png)
Made this using my avatar as its texture, lol. It was made to help people I know learn how to rig.

I'll probably make a version with how I actually think X-Face should look like later, haha.

Ok, here's my custom models. Moka is the only one I've model edited off of which was from a base of Ikaros. But I edited like 90%, for the record, which took about a month and a half (for both Inner and Outer completely). :srs:

P1 from Skrillex Quest. Took about an hour.

The thing that took the longest about this was the textures, haha. They're accurate with a little flair. I still need to finish his sword and shield, but that will take about 10 minutes. I just need time.

Be specific. How do you want him to look.

realistic and creepy...
so the main body would be textured in such a way it has 2 pieces, like the normal pinsir, whose body has this seam in the middle of where his mouth is...

Your Pinsir can fight this guy once they're done :)

Who's Pinsir going over anyways? Kabutops is on Falco.

i have no idea who he should go over, ive been thinking bowser cuz of the legs, bad thing is pinsir has no proper head, and bowser's head is pretty important... could be interesting to see him use flamethrower out of his horns though :P

A Ganondorf design that started out Skyward Sword-y then gradually became Ocarina of Time-y. Oh well, I still like it.

Hm... Interesting model. It's kinda like the OoT Ganondorf in the later parts of the game... When you're playing as Adult Link. Except less Pinocchiodorf looking.

Only detail that's kinda bothering me might be the waist armor. That seems a bit off to me for some reason... And why IS is saying "His stomach seems to wide." But I'm not completely sure what's wrong... Maybe the white part near the crotch area? That part seems to clash a bit.

Anyway... I look forward to seeing this finished.

I just wonder though... Will he have proper moving eyes? And expressions?

We've been needing a modernized OoT Ganondorf. The ones in the vault are plain ugly.

Sorry Melee players, but Pinnocchiodorf looks UUUUUUUUUUUUGH-ly.

model looks good, and looks quality-ish, but the face looks ugly, not saying bad, just ugly as a face...
and all ur isues with his big nose are just plain weird, ALL the gerudo's had big noses

Well, making Ganondorf NOT ugly would almost be a crime.

But the big noses... Well, it looked silly. He didn't look intimidating in OoT. He looked like a monkey.

In TP, they made his nose smaller. And as a result... He actually looks better.

On this model, his nose is still rather broad. But not stupidly long. Which seems fine with me.

TP ganon looks good, but they [censored]ed it up with his hair xD
and dont forget ur talking about a N64 game, anyway, this is just a mather of taste and opinions, so we should probably stop about it xD
since i wont make u think OoT's nose looked good, and u wont make me think it looked bad

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Angelglory on January 15, 2013, 09:11:29 AM
Well the model's pretty much done, but I can easily go back and fix it up some more since nobody's taken the request in the request forum yet.

The white strap was supposed to be more Gerudo print, but the UVs didn't work out, though I know how to fix it now.

So it's that and make his stomach a bit slimmer...?

EDIT: Well, I've done all I can do with it, you can see the updated model in the request forum.

I know it is very low poly but this is because i made it for MKW.
Perhaps i will import it into brawl or someone else can use it when my mkw hack is done.

The eyes' textures look kinda pixely.

Try using... Maybe the blur brush on the outer part of the eyes? That might soften them up.

can try to redo that and make it softer

I don't think you need to.

Just alter it a bit. There should be a blur brush, or something. This should basically add more depth to the line art.

Also, for getting started with the other textures... You can borrow things from other characters. Even things from other games. Just make them fit in. That's what I do when trying to texture.

no sadly, this model will be 100% custom made from scratch!

meaning the rollershoes will be hard and the gloves will be extremly hard

reason why is because I will show up my model to jobs that I am seeking together with otherstuff that I can say "This is 100% mine"

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models

Also, the textures are lower quality because he's not rendering. If it's a HQ texture, it'll look better when it's rendered, because that is how it will look ingame. You can mess with the options to have full-scale textures in the normal viewports too, though.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models

Yeah, that's the thing ._. I can't figure out how to fix the eye textures. I suppose I should've said I need someone to fix the eye textures rather than finish it.
Other than that he's pretty much done. I think he's way too many vertexes too, you know hence why I had him so 'blocky' but nope, people had to have him smooth. *shrug*

i was gonna use that face, but it was way too high-poly, the face alone had 12000 verts.

is it fully custom, or did u use some base?

yeah, it's a bit high poly because i'm using Felicia as a base. although i could make a lower poly version once i'm done if anyone wants to get it into brawl.

Meh, Felicia worked fine in Brawl (but it sure as hell pushed the limit to near-insane levels). If the model's not more than 17,000 polygons/9200 vertices your custom model should work fine.

Yeah I know, but the way i'm editing this model is messy and rigging would be a pain if left as is. the model doesn't really need to be this high poly anyway. i'm pretty much just going to remodel this once i got everything in the right place.

for the face and hair you could use kit's model

I was thinking about it but Kit's face wouldn't work. Her hair might though.

Model making is not something exclusive to brawl, so a tutorial here would be unlikely. You could just Google around. There is low-poly character modelling tutorial around that I found very useful.

That'll be model importing, there are plenty of tutorials of that (plus rigging) over at the "model tutorial" section. That is when you already have the model which you could get or make yourself.

Yeah, I noticed they were a bit short
I can just vertex stretch the spots inbetween the two holes.

Nubby practice model.
Its a Roull, a character me and some of my friends made up, they populate Roull City and are, well, a "bit", dumb, they are constantly victims of iamsocool.

Its already rigged, but I need to do one thing, his head looks normal in that but when I replace the model all of the faces on his head are replaced with the side texture, so if someone could tell me how to apply a seperate texture to each face for brawl I would be happy :p

Oh and the shoulders don't look like that in animations.

What's the UV layout like? Brawl only accepts one material per object, so unless each of those sides of the cube are separate objects (which would be silly), you need to have a single texture for the entire head and fit the head's UVs to that texture.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Iwvi on April 03, 2013, 11:26:46 AM
Also, depends on who is he over. Some use different objects for the faces, some only different textures.

OK, well since I've never made a model for brawl I guess I'm gonna need a bit of help with this, If I were to make a texture for his whole head (By the way he's over Luigi), would it be something like:

Also, I have no idea what a UV Layout is sadly... eheh.. he...

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Vaanrose on April 04, 2013, 01:12:54 AM
For Brawl, every object can only have one material applied to it. And each material can only have one texture. It sounds like you're using different texture files for each side, which is why once you import it into Brawlbox they all become the same. Brawl ignores all the textures but the first.

If this is the problem, you have two ways of going about fixing this. The first is to lay out your UVs so that all your textures can be placed together into one single texture file.

The second method is easier, but also less efficient. Make each side of his head a separate object. So, if his head is a cube, he'd have six different objects, and then you can apply one texture file to each of those.

If you go the UV way, your texture doesn't need to be quite like what you have here. It looks like the sides and back of the head are using the same image, so to be more efficient, you can overlay the uvs of each side on top of each other, and only have that image present once in your texture. This gives you more room on the texture to use for other things, or just to allow the images to be higher-res without scaling up your final texture size.

I need someone to tell me how to do the UV Mapping properly then, when I tried it still just did the texture on every face thing.

Edit: I got seriously sick of UV Mapping so I lazily just gave him extruding hair to hide the other faces on his head, when I used it in brawl the textures were completely messed up though... :\

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: BlueBrain on April 05, 2013, 03:59:48 AM
box UVmapping is realy simple...

once you get in the UVunwrap modifier, you click on edit, click on face selection, click on the UVs once, now you have one of the faces selected, move it around, and check in the model viewport what face you are manipulating, after getting all faces apart, just make them fit in the main square, even if your texture isnt gonna be square shaped, you have to fit them in.
play a bit ariound, and you'll soon enough see what i mean

They sure do. It's not too hard to set up, provided you have the textures.

Although, by "Normal" maps you mean things like "Spec" maps or stuff like that, right? I'm still a little green when it comes to actual 3D modeling lingo.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Vaanrose on April 12, 2013, 07:47:34 PM
Nope. Normal maps are different than Spec maps. Spec maps affect how much light bounces off an object; an object's shininess. Normal maps affect what direction light bounces off an object; how round is the object. They're best used in conjunction. Until a day or two ago I didn't think Brawl used normal maps, but BJ said he found normal map calls in the files. So... theoretically they work. Check out Nanobud's spec map tutorial. That's where we talked about the differences more in depth.

I only brought it up because the only reason to do a high-poly sculpt is to create a normal map, and sometimes a texture map. And it looks like Kage is using Zbrush. Or maybe Mudbox. But either way, not a model that will actually work in game in its current state.

Yup, Zbrush.
Also, I find sculpting more fun than straight modeling, at least for organic shapes. And I don't find retopologizing for the low poly as horrible as most Zbrush users I've met do.

...Also there's the matter that there'll probably be a more definite idea of how Brawlbox can use normal maps by the time I'm done with it, so I can just leech that knowledge...

Since I said I'd do this long ago, I think is time I show the little progress I have.
I saw a request to import this
(http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/175/1/c/1cbbc051a4082a5ad53dfe8bf4fd3236-d54om6r.jpg)

And so for I have this. Created a base mesh, gave it a simple unwrap for a pattern (chainmail like atm). I also have made the sword and most of the armor. I am not really good at texturing so for now that is on hold, I only unwrapped the sword and gave it a solid texture. Hands are Ike's btw, got lazy there.

Suggestions, opinions, etc are welcome

Working on a Sheik model that has her face revealed. Still uncertain about the current hairstyle. I may model a more conventional kunoichi style with frontal bangs and a higher positioned ponytail. But not yet.

Besides that, completely reworked the body. Has a more feminine shape. Also, it's fully rigged and articulated alongside the original Sheik model.

However I'm having two issues... First, her eyes will not show properly (in game) and I'm unsure how to get them back. If I do add Zelda's eye shapes w/textures, it causes problems, and sometimes makes the game freeze. Even though I added the textures. In Brawl minus, the entire game freezes at stage select. Project M, however, has no major problems loading up thus far. <- This indicates a serious problem in the model itself, and I have no idea how to fix it! (I make models, not code games! :3)

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models

Yes, mostly. The only new texture is from Zelda's .pac and I edited it to cover the entire sphere of her head. (I remade a new scalp for her)

Everything I used in the scene, which was only that one additional image, I included in Sheik's pac/pcs files.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Vaanrose on April 15, 2013, 12:12:30 AM
Shot in the dark, but what's your file size looking like? Whether a character loads or crashes is usually an issue with file size. It's the character's file size, plus the size of the character's FitMotionEtc (explaining why the mod would work with one moveset and not the other; Project M probably has a smaller file size.)

Don't quote me on this, but I think Zelda and Sheik share total file size, too, so a smaller Zelda file can allow a larger Sheik file size before crashing, and vice versa.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: xbeton0l on April 15, 2013, 12:24:33 AM
You may have a point. Though I'm not entirely sure if Sheik's files are over-limit, whatever limit that should be, it does seem to work without error in Project M. I sent Nanobuds a copy of my project files, but if you think you can find out what's wrong with it I'll send you the files as well.

Now, call this intuition, but I think there may be something in relation to the codes loaded from RSBE01.gct. I managed to install several Minus characters, including my modded Sheik, under the Project M engine and everything seems to work fine. Also, the only major difference in my files is that I added a texture for Zelda's face, in addition to the already-existing textures that Sheik has. This could very well be the problem.

Overall, the model I made has fewer polygons than Sheik's original model, even with the new ponytail and body (I'm the master of low polys, :P). Thus the model's size should be smaller. I'll do a direct MDL0 comparison (Old ➙ New) soon to verify this.

Edit: The original mdl0 is 264 KB (271,244 B). The modified mdl0 is 409 KB (419,352 B). Difference of 145 KB (148,108 KB), or a 54.6% increase in file size.

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: Vaanrose on April 15, 2013, 12:32:00 AM
Are you saving her as both a pcs and a pac? Sheik needs both, since she's a transformer. Though usually that doesn't freeze until you're in-game and try to switch.

Every time I've had a hack that crashes at the stage select screen, it's always been a file size issue. Dropping the texture res a notch usually drops the file size enough to work. It does seem odd that your file would be over-limit considering you only have one other texture. But I see you have edited the model. It's possible when you exported it to a .dae it didn't compress as much as it should have, and you might have gotten an unsually large file. Did you triangulate her before export?

Indeed I didn't. /facepalm *smacks head

Lol. I noticed my exported mdl0 model is about 50% bigger than the original game mdl0. Might have lots to do with untriangulated polys. If you want, here are the files I've worked on thus far. I only have the PACs saved, as I can easily convert them to PCS in BrawlBox.

Code:
ZeldaS.Sheik.rar (6.9 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!LhIgWZyK!EQeYwj5MdHs6kDvtaUATnFs87Mh_89yBLEg5dTd1uSo

Edit: No... no, I did check Triangulate in the dialog. My mistake. The model is in fact triangulated.

if it's the model that is heigher poly, try using prooptimizer on the fae object, since sheik has a pretty low-poly face, also, since u added boobs, im guessing u also added more vertices to the body itself...
you can also just lower the size of one of the textures, that should probably do the trick, as well as having ALL the textures set as CMPR, since they literally take down the filesize of a texture to 1/3 of it's original

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models
Post by: xbeton0l on April 15, 2013, 05:08:49 AM
Thanks JK. I was uncertain of which texture type I should use, but if CMPR works the best then I'll go with that.

Also, I'm counting 6,113 polys (tri's) with a total of 3401 vertices on the original Sheik model. Now, after the tweaks and modifications I made to the model (breasts, face, and hair models).... I managed to actually reduce the poly count... to about 5756 triangles and 3046 vertices. So I know the geometry is much smaller now, though I think that the original MDL0 was compressed differently than how 3ds Max tends to handle DAE files.

Nonetheless I'll try CMPR for the textures I've got. Thanks for that tip!

Please, if you do fix anything let me know what you did. I'm mainly trying to learn how to make models and port them successfully. Also, if you know how eyes work, I can't seem to get them working at all. Just a bunch of texture glitches or this mysterious 'Brawl' texture that shows up in the MDL0. (In the Textures folder under MDL0)

The help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Title: Re: [General] Custom made models

My only suggestions are:
-Look at how other Brawl models have their UVs laid out, particularly characters. This should give you an idea of how you can divvy up and group UVs.
-Look for your modeling program's UV optimization tool. Obviously, you can't just rely on it 100%, but it should be able to at least figure out the best way to "unwrap" the UVs to minimize pixel distortion and maximize texture resolution.

Wait. I recognize that preview. I forgot you already had this in the works when I visited your thread.

Adding onto what Peardian said, take particular note of Kirby and Metaknight's UVs, since those characters are fairly similar. You'll also note that kiby's body is not just a single sphere, but broken up at the eyes so that the eyes can not only have different materials than the body (and, hence, expressions), but can be planar mapped more easily, since spheres don't UV very easily without deforming textures. I would use that technique for the eyes and cheek blushes.

Looking at the UVs for Mario/Luigi's shoes would be a good reference as well when you get to the feet.

For texturing, you can probably cheat on the body and arms/legs by using 4x4 pixel single-color textures and let the shaders do the rest.

Now here's a question: are you planning on making him close to Brawl's art style, or are you trying to make it as close to the original Kirby art style? Because if you're going for Brawl's style, I recommend looking up photos of roller skates to give you an idea of some of the details you can model out for the wheel portion. Actually, I recommend doing this either way, as it will give you a better understanding for what you're modeling, even if it's really stylized.

Edit: The same goes for caps like the one he wears.

That pic is pretty heavily stylized and most certainly not made with the third dimension in mind. Note that the skates are even the exact same shape, duplicated, flipped, then rotated 45°.

Not a bad ref in general though, and for color, go for it, but might I suggest this ref in addition?
It's up to you in the end. Just throwing this one out there, since it has a bit more detail and is drawn with 3D shapes in mind. Although personally, I like the proportions of the ref you showed (with the large hands and feet).

Fun fact: I drew a Sonic fancharacter once.

I pretty much wanted to see if
1. I could make one that wasn't an animal that was already 'canon'
2. Which used an uncommon color scheme (Which didn't blow my eyes out due to RAINBOW NEON LISA FRANK)
3. And that I could call "Original the Fanchar"

I ended up liking the design enough to make it not a "full" parody though.

I think it came out pretty well:

In any case, I'm practicing my custom modeling, and this is my guinea pig:

There are still things missing, but it's 100% custom.

I'm also testing out how far I can push bone-mods without breaking the original moveset. Despite how it Sonic-ish it looks, it's actually going to be rigged over Pit. (because why not, lol?). Without changing any of the IDs that are important, I've managed to change Pit's overall height to that of Sonic's, along with making both hands and feet 1.5 times bigger than Pit's original. Lastly, I managed to move around some stuff to give Pit's boneset a working, moveable tail (that works with the original animations, more or less).

So yeah. Havin' a blast here, haha!

EDIT:

Haha, it is. Kinda funny, as I've actually already cut the poly count on it once XD. Here, I've cut it down to about half of what it had. Here are some pics of how it looks now. I have only put the links up to them because I wanted to make sure I didn't lose any quality in the pics this time (I noticed it was kinda hard to see things on my other pics because of that)

If its still too much, I can try to cut it down further, but I know that when I cut it down a certain way the first time, it ruined the curves in the cape.

Yes, that was a total. The last cape optimization cut out over 500 polygons as well.

**On a side note, does anyone know what character has the lowest amount of polygons, and approximately how many they have? I figure if I follow that guideline, I'll never have issues.**

Don't worry about ProOptimizing the cape as much, focus on ProOptimizing the rest of his body, for example, his head and his hands are only spheres, which means the can be ProOptimized to about 20% and still look the exact same, and same goes for his arms and legs, since they're cylinders. You can still go up to at most about 15000 polys on all the characters though, whether they're low poly or not. Kirby is probably the lowest poly though.

Ok, then I'm just fine right now. Thanks.

It looks good for a first time. It is kinda square on the head though (Try spherify modifier). I also think that if you aim for a classic megaman look, his leg armor should be bigger. Try also attaching his neck to the rest of his body, it sticks out atm.
It is looking good so far. You should be less afraid of using more polys, I used tons of them on my first model and still got it into brawl. I think you are doing good so far, better than some people I know. :P

I can use some help making custom made models. I want to make custom made models of some characters from Total Drama World Tour like Cody, Duncan, Gwen, Heather, Owen, Courtney, Lindsay, Beth, Geoff, Bridgette, Leshawna, Harold, Trent, Justin, Sierra, & Alejandro so that I can rig them for Brawl but I don't know how to do that.

I made this Xerneas mostly just to go with the Yveltal I made. I had to put Xerneas over Ivysaur unfortunately though. I tried to keep him a little bigger than Ivysaur, so the rig isn't that great, but I might make some updates to the rig sometime. lol. ;D

I would stay away from mesh smooth. If you are trying to add more polys to make it smooth, then use the HSDS modifier.

EDIT:

Anyway, made this. Not really planning on doing anything with him though.
He is mostly done. I just ave to tweak a few parts.

So, for this Halloween I've started a possibly original Brawl Vault idea? I am currently re-modeling/creating every character to have a "Dry" body. Some parts will be textures however. Every regular Brawl Character aside from Bowser himself of course. Here is Mario in a Beta Preview in 3DS Max. Yes, I am using partss from Dry Bowser (Winter Games Model HP). Any ideas on what to do with the head in terms of his Jaw? Separate it or no? Also, I will do an alt where he will retain his sig Gloves.

So I decided to check this site after god knows how long and I noticed that a lot of stuff changed. one being the model import being done. I had a fangasm of sorts and had to start a new project! So I started on this guy.

I put a ridiculous amount of time in awakening and really enjoyed the character. I jumped around with modeling and texturing because i have some areas with separate maps done. I have to figure out how to make a good arm cape without using A-pose(unless i can use a-pose in brawl, can someone confirm this for me haha) Because with T-pose it'll rest on his arm all weird. I may have to add/move bones. I would like to make a PSA for him, though.

1) Props to your endeavor to model him entirely from scratch—I salute you for it.

2) Theoretically you can use an A pose if you want, even with the original skeleton. You can rotate the arm joints, rig the mesh to the joints, and when everything is all rigged, reset the joints' rotations back to their original positions. Actually, as long as you don't change the default orientation of the joints, you can probably import in whatever pose you like, since the animations will always rotate the joints relative to their default orientation anyway.
I've never tried it myself, but it sounds like it would work fine in theory.

just start with some simple stuff, dont start on your favourite character, because that will only discourage you if you dont match your own expectations, it's normal to not make a perfect model as a first attempt, but eventually you'll get there. :)

That's not a bad idea, though I was thinking of having it as a scrolling level like the pirate ship if possible.

Since everything is lowpoly I can have the level decently sized.

Hmm...A Low Poly Hyrule Castle in the background maybe? Death Mountain?

Sounds good. I could probably also add some cows, (i think that's what they are?) grazing everywhere like the game.

That's not a bad idea, though I was thinking of having it as a scrolling level like the pirate ship if possible.

Since everything is lowpoly I can have the level decently sized.
Sounds good. I could probably also add some cows, (i think that's what they are?) grazing everywhere like the game.

Neat, won't forget to add that then.

Edit:

I think i'm happy with this map. I was thinking it would loop in the middle of the forest, maybe passing the forest temple(if that's what it is).

Back when the cutting edge of custom stage making was retexturing stage builder blocks I made this:

Now I'm making this:

Nothing impressive, I know, but that's why I chose it as a starting place for me. Before this I'd never worked with a 3D modeling program or imported any model into Brawl.

My SSB4 Pac-Man model
(http://i.imgur.com/CP57E1e.png)
Thank God, he would go great over Mario or Sonic. He would go great over Mario due to his jump and Mario's F.L.U.D.D. could be replaced by Pac-Man's fire hydrant. He would also go great over Sonic due to Sonic Ball, could be turned into that arcade styled Pac-Man, and his spring could also be replaced by Pac-Man's fire hydrant.

Hello everyone!

I'm relatively new to model editing and to posting to this forum (so if I'm doing something wrong, by all means, tell me).

So my malady and challenge for myself is to combine a model of a head (which i don't even know where to start to make) and replace it with Dedede's model.

Is this idea feasible?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Any idea you can think of is most likely possible. If you manage to make the model, you should be able to get it in the game. However, this thread is to show custom made models. To request advice or help, you should go to the help section, or the model help.

So I made a thing tonight. Thought I'd share it.

Well, the smaller, simpler one was made a while ago on another night, purely out of a single, six-sided cylinder. This time I spent a couple hours making one with a bit more detail, where the grip/pommel, guard, and blade are separate objects.
It seems I have thing for swords.

custom Darunia progress, used LoZ TP's goron model for the body and head, and DK for arms and legs, all untextured stuff is fully custom.

i'm pretty confident the hammer will look tons better once textured, and if it's still missing detail i guess i can always add more to it :P

That it is, good sir. (:
Based more on the Awakening look rather than the SSB4 look (though there isn't much difference aside from the pommel).
Might texture it, or I might just leave that to someone else who wants to, after I finish the UVs.

Ooh! Very cool! <3

Don't worry too much about making your rigging Brawl-ready. From what I understand, people who import models pretty much have to redo the rigging anyway if the character doesn't already match up perfectly with one of Brawl's existing models. (I'm another person who only makes the model and doesn't handle the Brawl side of things.)

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, I posted here because I'd like to see them into Brawl, but before I do it would be necesary to speak with the person who's going to work on the model so I can simplify the shapes and make it easier to work on.

So, I've decided to try my hand at making a model that will hopefully A) fit Brawl's style, and B) get hacked into the game.

I've even gone so far as to make a shadow model, just so he fits in better.

He's Black Alloy, intended to use DK's animations and basic moves, with the 'internal name' zakobeast. He's obviously supposed to fill the "big guy" spot, heh.

(Note: Blender images at the moment, but I can send them to someone who has the tools necessary to import him into Brawl format)

My only hope is that we've advanced far enough with imports that we can actually handle linestrips and mirror modes with UV data.

As you can see, he's not exactly 'giant'. That's because I intend on making him a playable character and didn't want him to take up the whole stage as Giga Bowser tends to do.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread for this.

I've gotten a lot better at 3D modeling since the last time I was active here (though I also haven't really done much in the past 7 months or so). None of these are specifically for Brawl, but here's some examples of my work.

These are some My Little Pony models I made ages ago when everyone (myself included) thought it was hip and cool to watch a show about cartoon horses.
I emulated another artist's style with these models so they'd go with his pony ones, but aside from the eyes it's all completely original geometry. You might recognise one or both of these models, but since their Smash Bros and Gmod debuts respectively I had started updating them and adding more detail. They're not quite where I want them to be yet, but I'll probably never come back to them since I'm not really interested anymore. The Spike v2 source files used to be available on my deviantART but I've since hidden it.

Since then, I kinda developed a thing for low-poly models. These probably aren't really "low-poly", but I still like how they came out. These are all of original characters, first picture being of my own. I even tried doing these as commissions but it didn't really pan out. Some of these I'm thinking of revamping too, but I'd also like to branch out a bit and try other things.

I'm thinking of getting back into Brawl modding, but we'll see if I can actually be motivated to do that, especially when the bar has been raised so significantly in the last 3 years. :P

Alright. I've uploaded my Black Alloy (http://www.mediafire.com/download/thmlx2qk5d57qrq/zakobeast.zip). If anyone wants to go for it, I'd love to see him actually added in as a new Alloy character, but that would probably require a full PSA and editing of animations, so... yeah.

Also keep in mind that while I've made the stomach section solid, it's supposed to be lines like the others (I couldn't keep the UV mapping while making them just lines in Blender), so you'll either need to find a way to reduce it to lines, or hack a copy of Yellow's polygon5 to move them to the vertex positions.

I understand that Alloys aren't popular, but thought this would be a unique hack anyway.

I'm working on a couple of things. Something that I've been working on for a while on and off and something else that I just started today:

MGSV Sneaking Suit

Front:

Back:

Will be adding an edge loop on the bottom arm part along with making the padded armor more puffy. The dark grey material hasn't actually been touched at all, so that's next on the list after I'm done with all the straps and padding on the front. Will be using FFD box to make him less chubbier. I'll also be editing the neck so it isn't as square and is more natural/round.

Turbosmooth is just a test to see how it looks like. So is the Shell, although I'll be using the shell to help add depth before I make the armor puffy. After I'm done with most/all of the detail, I'll be importing it into ZBrush to add creases and stretching to the leather and cloth.

After that is Omen, a scrapped champion from LoL

Non-turbosmooth'd
(http://puu.sh/lrAgh/60966e5010.png)

Turbosmooth'd
(http://puu.sh/lrAg4/f16f7f180f.png)

Will be adding control loops near all the joints plus touching up his body pretty much everywhere. Will also be remaking his "hands"/"feet" as they came out terrible.

When I'm done with the main body, I'll be adding details such as spikes and an actual face in the future. Until then, I'm gonna be fixing his playdoh body lol.

Much more progress since my last post:

I think all I have left now is editing the collar, adding about four belts (symmetry cuts it to half), the right hand, his head, and two circle things on his legs (symmetry cuts it to half). The hand and head are probably going to be the most difficult to make out of the five objects I have left to make.

Updates to old models I've been working on.

Small update to MGSV Big Boss.

Mostly just moving some verts around along with showing off the dark gray material that was hidden last time. THe square stuff on top is supposed to be straps. Obviously, it's not done yet. I need to either start blocking out some detail on his sneaking suit or throw it in zbrush as right now it's not really doing anything. He also needs a right hand, remade Arm of Jehuty (which one of my friends is working on) along with placing the head I recently made (which will be used with MGS3 Big Boss with texture edits).

Next is Lyndis

Gave her new hands which were based off of Marth's from Smash4. After working on her hand, I think I have a grasp as to how to make hands now. Also, switched out a bunch of planar straps for cylinder ropes. Not sure how I feel about it right now, but we'll see where it goes. All she really needs is a head, a bit of hair, and she's pretty much done aside from texturing.

MGS3 Big Boss is below

Overall just updated his waist by making it a little bit larger along with some changes to his left leg, although more will be need to done (it's too straight right now). I made a head for him and MGSV Big Boss, although textures will need to be edited to fit the fact that it's MGS3 Big Boss.

Gray Fox is next

Head is WIP, as it was much more difficult than I expected. Will have to spend more time working on it over the weekend (assuming I have more time). Rest of the body is satisfactory for now. Needs hands, boots, head, sword, and he'll be done. I'll also be making an MGS1 version of Gray Fox (using MGS3 Big Boss as a base) and giving him a human face, assuming I ever get to it. Not 100% sure what to do about Human Fox's head though.

Awakening Roy is right after

His arms are a bit too long at the moment, so that'll need to be fixed. He also needs that white part of his vest, which will be the next thing I'm working on along with hands and boots. Head will be last, obviously along with hair.

Next up is Isaac

The hands in this pic are outdated (I replaced them with hands that are more brawl styled). As one can see, there's a lot of detail that's sculpted directly on the model, so I'll be throwing it in ZBrush/Mudbox soon for more sculpting. I won't be doing any major edits to the model because of this fact. He's pretty much done except for a new sword and head/hair.

Finally, is the head I made for MGSV Venom Snake and MGS3 Big Boss

White material, with edged faces
(http://puu.sh/nmT0S/fb86d6e28d.jpg)

Demo Texture
(http://puu.sh/nmYVD/2145be4784.jpg)

Head was made using MGSV Venom Snake's head as a reference to make a custom version of my own. The texture is taken from the same reference image and used to demo what it'll look like with actual textures. Hair will be completed when I study more plane modeled hair.

I have too many things going on...

Those are some impressive human bodies!

I made another SMRPG enemy. It took a day to model, a day to UV, a day to rig, and a day to texture. I aimed for quality rather than realistic SSE enemy polygon counts, so I ended up at around 3400 polygons. I probably could cut down on the polygon size if I just do intersecting meshes rather than properly connecting them, but oh well.

Glad you like it! The low-poly version is based on what the model looked like before I beveled all of the edges and added carved details. I also used a render of the high-poly version to create the low-poly version's texture.

Flying Palace from Pokemon the Movie 2000: The Power of One
Body: 300104 polygons (Mid: 144328, Low: 49752)
Propeller 1: 904 polygons (Low: 246)
Propeller 2: 560 polygons (Low: 174)

Total: 356924 polygons (Min: 65736)

Made slowly over the course of seven months. Used official concept art to ensure the design was as accurate as possible.

Vibe Scepter from Super Princess Peach
1056 polygons (2208 including extra glass orb polygons)
The object is physically impossible, so I designed the model to use UV animation for swapping out the faces. I made extra polygons for the orb in case anyone wanted to try doing fancier renders with it.

Pinwheel from Super Mario RPG
3120 polygons (812 base + 1092 normal + 1216 angry)
Studied Thwomps and related enemies to get a feel for how to create the face.

Big Shaker from Sonic the Hedgehog 3
7588 polygons
One of the main reasons it has so many polygons is because the crossing bands of gold had to match up, which required specific multiples of polygons. This in turn directed the level of detail for the rest of the model. The mesh is structured in such a way that it would be easy to carve out a [censored]pit and turn it into Sonic Mania's Laundro Mobile boss.

Chikako (Glitter) from Super Mario Land
714 polygons
I made variations for face designs that match modern Mario games, but the original face was the most appealing.

Not expecting anyone to care but if by the off-chance someone is interested, feel free to PM me. I have worked on this model for a long time and I would love to see it in action even just as a test.
