Title: ...Mac?
Post by: Tyeforce on July 03, 2009, 05:52:56 PM
I'd really like to get into making and editing textures, but I don't have a Windows PC. I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X. Most of these programs used for textures, aside from GIMP, are Windows executable files (.exe), which don't work on Mac. Are there any substitute applications for Mac that I can use instead? It really sucks because I can't do anything... All I can do is download textures and put them on my SD card. I can't edit or create textures, construct a common3 with custom items, make CSPs, or even make PACs for characters that are missing them. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. Thanks.

There isn't any and probably won't ever be stuff designed specifically for running on macs... but...

Tried them, they don't work. Darwine works for some programs, but not these. And why are you laughing? Is there something wrong with me using a Mac?

Nah, but I've run into quite a few mac users now that just are plain out of luck lately.

Although I'm not a fan of macs. (I've had to get quite used to them in order to trouble shoot friend / family issues --- eventually giving up in some cases and setting up parallels on my mom's comp in order for her to use programs required for her job)

So there are no substitute applications? I guess my only option is to guy CrossOver or Parallels, then... >_>

Unless anyone else knows something...

unless you want to compile the SDK for mac's and transfer some other things (tplx and pearl and [censored] like that).

Uhh...what? Sorry, this stuff is all new and confusing to me...

Essentially... unless you know how to program, you have no chance of it happening.

...Dammit. XD

I guess all I can do is ask people to do stuff for me. =/

I'm not much of a Mac fan myself.  Good thing that I own a PC or else I wouldn't have been able to create and host any of my textures.

Okay, my boyfriend said he might be able to compile the SDK or whatever for me, so I'll see how that goes... And I don't think I'm getting Parallels or CrossOver anytime soon. I'm not paying to have that inferior, bug ridden operating system on my MacBook. No thank you.

I doubt it's really gonna happen. I'm not sure if an alternative to NTcompress / Texconv (required for ASH to run) have been made yet (although I believe spunit was working on incorporating those features into SSBBarc).

And... Windows may have its issues... but here is one truth you have to face. If you are too proud to install an "inferior operating system", you'll miss out on the many things that are windows only [not to mention, suffer a lot of the crap win->mac ports]. (*cough* Pirated parallels to get stuff running on my mom's iMac *cough*)

This. Be as high and mighty or whatever the phrase for arrogant people like you is, I'm really way too tired to care. At the end of the day, PC users get to make textures and you don't.
