Title: It's here. RSBE - Replacement SoundBank Engine "FPC 4.0" by InternetExplorer
Post by: InternetExplorer on July 22, 2013, 02:06:01 PM
Replacement SoundBank Engine (RSBE)
(v1.20)

RSBE is an addition to the File Patch Code which allows SFX files to be loaded from the SD card. You can take .sawnd files and put them straight onto your SD card for easy SFX loading. This works for any soundbank including characters, menus, announcer, you name it!

→ Super Sawndz (http://www.mediafire.com/download/zn9z8s0p9i8fyaw/Super_Sawndz_RSBE.zip)

How To Use
  • Open your .brsar in Super Sawndz MOD
  • Replace your desired SFX
  • Highlight the sound group you'd like to export
  • Click "Create sawnd"
  • Put your .sawnd file in: private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/sfx
  • Note: Your .sawnd file must be named after the Group ID, eg. Mario's soundbank must be named 8.sawnd

Background

Hey, everyone! I'm InternetExplorer, a developer of Project M (http://projectmgame.com) and SSBM Online (http://ssbmo.com). After many months of hard work, my greatest contribution to the Brawl modding community is complete. A warm thanks goes to Dantarion for helping me past a few hurdles.
Although SFX replacement has previously been possible with Riivolution, RSBE provides a streamlined way of creating and sharing soundbanks in a way that is as simple and effective as it is to share costumes, music, etc. I am excited to see some of the soundbanks our talented Brawl modders can design.

NOTE: Remember that there is a file size limit. Making too large of a soundbank will freeze the game, so try to use sound effects that are equal or shorter in length to the default sounds. Sounds should also be in mono with a bit rate of 22050.

Thanks, and enjoy!

You rock, IE. I'm glad you got it to work.

I wonder how this will affect Project M's development...

Can it be!?

SFX modding for Gecko users!? \o0o/

Only one problem though.

This might be on my part though, but I get an error when I try opening the program.

"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319/mscoreei.dll could not be loaded"

Do I have to upgrade my NET Framework?

Sounds like it. I haven't run into that issue myself, but try grabbing the latest .NET 4.0 framework and let me know how it goes.

That's likely the problem. I just tested the program and it opened fine for me.

Well I currently have NET 4.5.

I'll try removing 4.5, and putting in 4.0.

So when I do create .bnk, it starts to do all of the saving, adn creates a .sawnd file. then it closes out of teh brsar and teh sawnd goes away, and no bnk is made

Same thing happens with me.

It might be due to that Data Execution Protection thing Windows has that's forcefully closing makebnk.exe.

But I'm not sure if that's the case, because Windows won't let me shut DEP off for that said program.

This... is a dream come true.
No need to waste a [censored] ton of file space for a BRSAR when loading individual little packs is more resourceful. Amazing.

Edit: Tried it. Trying to export a BNK file throws me an error.
Never mind. You need python27.dll for it to work.

The group is exported to a .bnk file, which'll have all sub-groups.

This is correct. The top-level group is packaged into a .bnk, so you can highlight "Mario" (group ID 8) and click "Create .bnk", and you'll get a file "8.bnk" which contains all of Mario's sfx.

Not sure why that would be, but consider that most Brawl soundbanks are VERY loud, like normalized to 0dB. You might want to do the same with your sfx, or at least compare them to the Brawl sfx to make sure they're similar in volume.

What happened to me: I accidently imported a stereo file for the SFX instead of mono, which froze at the strap screen for me. Be careful and make sure ALL of your sounds are in mono.

Original Wolf bnk size: 792 KB (812,028 bytes)
Vegeta Wolf Bnk size:  2.55 MB (2,677,758 bytes)

Original Pit bnk size: 843 KB (863,612 bytes)
Goku Pit Bnk size: 1.69 MB (1,778,973 bytes)

So.. My characters are going to freeze before starting a match? D:

EDIT:

What If a oversized smashbros_sound.brsar is done and i put that file on my iso? Will I have a larger filesize limit?

Pretty sure there is no good way to circumvent the file size limit. Just try reducing the quality of your audio samples, and cut them as short as possible. You save a lot of space by dropping the bit rate from 44100 to 22050.

ok, and of I surpass the original bnk size limit.. will always freeze? is it a silent freeze.. right?

It will not necessarily freeze if you surpass the file size a little bit. I don't know what the file size limit is for each character, but it's usually fine to go a little bit over. If you're not sure, though, try testing it out extensively before making a whole bunch of them and then not being able to figure out which is causing the freeze.

Hello IE6, welcome to the community
this officially bumps the file patch code to v4.0
XD
Just wanted to say thanks for all ur code tutorial videos on ur youtube page, i dont think u ever released ur modified dolphin debugger lol
i haven tried this, but u are aware that brawlbox can now edit soundbrsar;
do you think exporting to bnk format will be too much for black jax to handle?

i also think that the title RSBE can confuse people easily lol

well i am now in the mood to update 3.5.3, giving u guys the ability for 3 rosters and each now with their own soundbanks
XD

Technically I never made a custom Dolphin debugger, I simply compiled the DebugFast build of Dolphin, which anyone can do after pulling the source.

I think Super Sawndz is the most user-friendly and efficient way to handle sound effects, and BBox support would be great but Black Jax should be focusing on more important things, since we already have a tool for this that works.

Screw the confusion, I'm all about da puns.

well now im running into issue's with it... now the sounds wont even do anything.. :/

20.bnk - falcon
44.bnk - snake
223.bnk - character select screen calls/characall

i think it has to be filesize issue's..

note:
im using the file patch code 3.5.1 and the stage expansion pack 5.3 with tracklist modifier... idk if the stage expansion pack would cause issue's with this code tho ._.

It COULD be possible that the tracklist modifier may clash with the code. I recently discovered that Dant's old Alternate Stage Loader codes don't play nice with RSBE and will cause the game to freeze on the SSS. Turn off Tracklist modifier and try RSBE.

If I know what memory addresses these codes use then I can probably modify RSBE's memory addresses so that it doesn't clash. That's not a guarantee, though.

Yeah, honestly, I have no idea where in memory those old codes used memory. Now that I know better, I could just use the stack, but I didn't know better back then :P

I wrote this code in Dolphin so it should work fine. Remember to leave an empty line at the bottom of the .ini file after you add the code. Also remember to include the FPC as well.

well now im running into issue's with it... now the sounds wont even do anything.. :/

20.bnk - falcon
44.bnk - snake
223.bnk - character select screen calls/characall

i think it has to be filesize issue's..

note:
im using the file patch code 3.5.1 and the stage expansion pack 5.3 with tracklist modifier... idk if the stage expansion pack would cause issue's with this code tho ._.
([url]http://i.imgur.com/mN8Xt1N.png[/url])

ok nvm... i got it working now! except i went over snakes sfx size limit.. freezes when clicking on him

you got it working using tracklist moddifier? D:

As far I remember your stage loader codes and youe custom song loader code cant be  used at the same time, because memory addresses, but I still preffer your stage loader code than RSBE or your custom song loader but, if there is a way to make those codes work together, that would be really, really good  :o

Dolphin has built-in Gecko code support so there's no need to use Ocarina or any homebrew application. Just make sure "enable cheats" is selected in the config. Then, open the ini file at: dolphin/User/GameConfig/RSBE01.ini

At the bottom of that file, add codes in this format:
$Code title
XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY
XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY
[empty space at bottom of file]

The "$" is important. Once you've added all your codes in this way, go back into Dolphin, right-click Brawl and select "Properties", and go to the Gecko Codes tab to select all your codes. Then, launch Brawl as normal and your codes will work.

if i remember when editing character sounds there are two important rules
1,make sure the sound is in mono format.
2.the sampling rate needs to be the same as the original character; its usually 22050
u can always compare a clean soundbrsar in brawlbox to your new sounds

another way to save space on sound files is to have the same sound linked for different sounds

for example have win1,win2,win3 share the same sound
this is possible in brawlbox, but i have not had a chance to check in super sawnds
if its not possible in super sawnds:
you could first edit in brawlbox your smashbros_sound.brsar, import your new brsar to super sawnds and extract your modified sounds to bnk.
this should solve file limitations

I do think it's also worth mentioning that when making .bnk files, the same as making .sawndz files, sometimes (for a reason I have no clue about) the program will make the file about double the size it should be. Simply recreating the file has usually fixed that for me, but it's always worth checking the actual file size to make sure it's not too ridiculous.

Are you sure this happens with .bnk files too? I'm not sure I've ever seen that, and the .bnk creator grabs info directly from the brsar, so that sounds odd.

Yes. Literally the first one I saved did the exact same thing as with .sawnd files. For Marth it was like 1727 kilobytes, and the .sawnd file I have saved is 874 kilobytes. I just had it recompile it and overwrote the file and sure enough the file size changed to match the .sawnd file I already have saved. It does it almost every other time for me. It may be different for other people... idk.

Yes if you scroll through the brsar, you'll see that the stages also have their own Groups. So I'm assuming that you can change stage sfx as well with this code.

It's possible when designing a stage to make sound effects play. The custom stage likely loads the soundbank of whatever stage it's on top of, so you just modify that soundbank and call the sounds from the stage.

Oh haha. I meant the stage expansion stages. But I'm guessing it's the same thing? As long as you have it call sound effects when making the stage then it'll play those whenever during a match?

Then it could be because the soundbank is over the file size limit, but only the Snake character file attempts to access the memory location that the soundbank overflows. Weird, inconsistent freezes are usually caused by file size limit issues.

Audacity has three options: Change Pitch, Change Speed, and Change Tempo. You probably used Change Speed, which affects both tempo and pitch. You need to use Change Tempo, which affects the speed of the clip but not the pitch.

HAHAHA a thousand times yes!!! haha xD and yea... so if someone COULD find a way to just ADD sfx to a stage that normally wouldn't have one... (like final destination) that would basically open up an entirely different age of stage hacking... o.o

might be something to think about... :P

also, if you were to take any sound from the .brsar (let's say a silent sound) you could export it as .bnk then rename it to whatever you wanted (let's say the crowd chants whatever its numbers and stuff are called) and it will or should work correct? nothing special or tricky about the exporting other than naming?

also, have anyone of you actually listened to some of the stuff in the original brawl .brsar? looking in bb... index 295 is a good example... when the heck does snake even say these things?

While Stages have their own soundbanks (Expansion stages don't seem to load any), you'd have to figure out what calls the SFX, which is likely in the stage module.

would i release it as a sfx? but aren't those like Sawnd stuff? not .bnk? i guess we start by just doing it? or do you think the brawl vault staff people should make a seperate thing for this before getting into it too far?

Okay so I did get this to work. IT was a very stupid mistake on my part. I was putting the sfx in  the folder

- private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/sound/sfx
instead of
- private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/sfx

But the only issue is that it doesnt work when i use dolphin's gecko cheats. However it works when i use winimage with ocarina cheats.

put the code in using gct analyzer... got a fresh smashbros_sound.brsar opened it in brawl box... replaced every crowd chant i could find (in each characters bank) with silence .wav files... i noticed in the download for super soundz that there was already a .wav file made that was silent... so that's the file i used to replace everyone's crowd chant with... anyway i saved the .brsar using bb68b by the way... then i opened the .brsar in super soundz and clicked every character name (since that is where the crowd chants are located) and hit the export .bnk button... put them in a folder called "sfx" inside pf... threw the sd card in my wii... got all the way to picking a stage and right when i chose a stage... it froze...

Replace the sounds using Super Sawndz and not BrawlBox. I can't guarantee BrawlBox compatibility because I have no idea how it handles the brsar.

It doesn't matter where you keep the brsar.
soundconv.exe is part of the Nintendo SDK and so I'm not allowed to provide directions on where to find it.

I have an Issue...

Well this is the original wolf Soundbank size in supersawnds language :

A4405
  17A RWSD 57C9E
   1D6 RWSD 4C767

And this is wolf with vegeta sounds (some) implemented:

97F97
   17A RWSD 4B830
   1D6 RWSD 4C767

Well as we can see.. Wolf with vegeta sounds is SMALLER than the original wolf sound bank}

ok, I am going good, but  when I convert Original Wolf to a bnk file, the size is the following:
793 kb..

and the size of the Wolfgueta bnk file  is
2,481 kb..

mm.. This is when I say.. Wtf?

Edit.. Damn I just Fixed It and I Really dont Know How.. lol

Apparently I'm not the only one that happens to. I thought it was just me but sometimes when I compile the sounds into .sawndz or .bnk it makes the file double or triple the size. Just recompiling it usually fixes it for me and that's probably what you did lol

To make editing sfx easier and faster. You wouldn't have to go and edit your .brsar just export a .bnk.

couldn't have said it better myself... :P i mean say you get done with making a .bnk you like it for a while... then you forgot to add something to it... so you go back to the vault to find the hacks you had in that .bnk and one of them have a broken dl D: well what now? (its like a once in a blue moon kind of thing but i'm sure it would just be a handy thing to be able to do) although if it's a pain to make... maybe the work input > desired output in which case i wouldn't want to go through that trouble... :/

Also... I asked about bb being able to edit .bnk files sometime... and here is bj's reply...
They're just renamed brwsd files with a few extra values to help the geckp code load the file correctly.

Tell InternetExplorer to change his tool to load BRWSD, not bnk which doesn't exist, and then I'll do my part and add support for the extra values at the end.

Naming them .bnk files to fit his tool's name is causing way more confusion than it should. I wont support them if they dont use the right extension.

so... uhh... maybe? depends on what you wanna do i suppose... ;D

I looked at a bnk file myself (I was originally relying on information provided by someone else) and it turns out that it's actually a GROUP of rwsd files.

Sawndz lists files by group (because groups are named nicely), and a bnk is just the group of files exported in order with a few extra values at the end. A better extension for it would be .grp, as there are already bank files with the extension .brbnk.

I'll add support for exporting groups of files from BB to .grp with the same values at the end. Then you can just rename it to .bnk to work with this code.

You can find groups in Brawlbox under snd/group.

It sounds like you might have gone over his filesize limit. Either that or one of the sounds isn't mono. All sounds have to be almost exactly the same length and have to be mono, RSBE doesn't support stereo.

Internet explorer, do you know how the 7.bnk is handled by the game
It seems like the games loads character packs once u choose a character
but
the 7.bnk which controlls character announcers and menu sounds is only called once and is never loaded again...
do you think it would be possible to "refresh" these group of sounds by a button activator code or something?

I was able to get 3 rosters like in the video, and each with their respective custom sfx, psa, etc. but havent released the codes because i need to fix the character announcer call issue

On another note, is there like a thread or something that states what each number/group/bnk affects?

I just switched to Gecko OS because to keep the game stable (for the cBliss addon), I had to. But now that I've made the switch, everything seems fine, except for 2 things:

1: The music on some stages seems to switch during gameplay while I'm using Waluigi over Diddy Kong (Final), I don't know what songs they are, but I know that the game isn't supposed to switch songs during a fight, this bug doesn't occur in Riivolution.

2: Waluigi (I made my own announcer call for him) has a strange beep sound that plays right after his announcer call, a few other characters have no announcer call working and have different beep sounds instead (pokemon trainer and the individual charizard, to name 2) and I know this also doesn't happen in Riivolution.

that would be great if somebody could help me fix these issues, thanks.

Both those issues stem from swapping/moving files a lot. Most SD cards can't handle it without glitching and what not.

The solution is easy, backup everything, format your SD card (FAT/FAT32 will do), and try again.

If both those issues are still present then either your SD card is on it's way to the grave, or you need to change your Hook Type.

Post by: SpoonTheMan on August 31, 2013, 08:40:27 PM
My SD card is new, I also tried more than 1 of them. btw, the different hooks on Gecko OS make no difference for the game unless the user has USB Gecko (I don't). These issues are unique to Gecko OS and ANY of it's alternative loaders, they don't happen in Riivolution, and that is on the same cards that I used without any different data.

I believe the strange announcer calls are either an issue with how Gecko OS works, or the RSBE (Replacement Soundbank Engine) code, and said code needs fixing/another update, when I remove the sfx file for announcer calls, the announcer calls are normal again (which also means no modified announcer calls, and I can't work with that >.>). Also, the size appears to be the same between the sfx file, and an extracted sawnd file.

I still don't know why 'Waluigi over Diddy (Final)' causes the music to glitch/change in-battle, but it also doesn't happen in Riivolution, all I know is that his moveset files (only of the '(Final)' version) have something to do with it, but I don't know why it happens in Gecko OS, but not Riivolution, and unfortunately, any older version of Waluigi over Diddy does not work with his SFX pack, and well... I really don't want a mute Waluigi, because that kinda' wrecks the personality of him in the game.

That's about all I know about it. I can't switch back to Riivolution because the cBliss expansion causes random freezes on stage select if ran on Riivolution. You can ask me more questions though about anything that might be related to these issues I'm having. Thanks for any more suggestions as to how to fix these issues. If it's easier to just fix the random-freeze-on-stage-select issue with cBliss on Riivolution, then any idea how that could be done?

Edit: Nevermind, I fixed the cBliss freezing for Riivolution.  :af2:

I barely touched it, really. I had the .bnk creator written in Python already so I took the (extremely) lazy route and compiled it to a .exe and hooked it in, similar to how Sawndz was hooked. I could have rewritten it in C#, but it's been sitting around for a long time so I was afraid of forgetting how some things worked and spending hours debugging.

Just updated Super Sawndz to natively create .bnk files rather than rely on the Python module. Functionally it's the exact same but it might be faster and more reliable.

.bnk files might not preserve enough information to be able to insert them back into the BRSAR, but I'll probably look into this and see if it's possible. For the time being, I recommend packaging your SFX files with both a .bnk and a .sawnd for the convenience of the user.

Disregard the last post. I rewrote RSBE to natively use .sawnd files, so .bnk files will soon be obsolete. I need to perform extensive testing to make sure it's stable, but I'll update the code pretty soon.

So yeah, I've been trying this for a little while now. And I can't for the love of me seem to get by this error.

I've looked around for the .exe, but couldn't find it.
Any ideas what's wrong?

Edit: Never mind, figured it out myself.  But, now that that error's gone, I have this problem.

And it just stops here and the sound isn't replaced when played on the right.
So now I have this problem...

Sndconv.exe is in the Revolution SDK. You have to google the thing since we can't link it to you.

You should be able to use a .sawnd file. Just right click the group and replace it with the .sawnd.

So after looking into my problems more, it seems like this was happening to people with the original Super Sawndz. But a debug version got put out for it that fixed the problem.

But with the version linked in the OP, I keep getting the same error:

Inserting wav tank_breathe_01.wav

sndconv.exe v1.2
Sound converter for Dolphin AX sound player.
Copyright 2001 Nintendo Technology Development, Inc.

.

I also can't seem to export .bnk or .sawnd file.
As in the window where I save the file comes up, but when I click save it doesn't actually make the file.

So I have actually no idea what's happening with this right now.

Ah, nice.

I assume you have to name the sawndz files what the .bnk files would've been named?

Read the updated tutorial, thanks.

If you have trouble with my uploaded copy then try the standard version of Super Sawndz and see if that works. http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=27683 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=27683)

The only difference is that mine still supports .bnk files (just in case) and it automatically correctly names the file for you.

Sawnd files have some additional information that can be used to import them back into Super Sawndz, and they more accurately parse the group data relocation group. It's also more standardized as they've been around for years now.

This code messes up Mr. Game & Watch's sounds... However, if you use a .sawnd file of his sounds. It reads them fine... So I guess this is somewhat minor.

I remember when I replaced G&W's sounds with the Paper Mario sounds, it screwed up my Falco slot, for some reason. It's cuz their sound groups are next to each other in the BRSAR.

I just necroed the post about this on smashboards, but I'm going to reiterate here.
I've been having a few issues with the new version of the RSBE, as well as with version 1.11.

1. I noticed that on this page, the code for the RSBE is the latest version (1.20), but at the Smashboards post it is 1.11.

2. I've been having a little trouble with your modded Super Sawndz; in the old version (1.11), I could export .bnk files, but they would always freeze my game, even when I made them obscenely small. Just to clarify, I triple checked that my imported .wavs were mono, 22500kHz, and had ADPCM compression, in addition to being shorter/smaller than the sounds they replaced.

In your new version of Super Sawndz (1.20), when I go to insert a sound, soundconv.exe starts up, and then it stops suddenly without actually inserting a new .wav.

3. If .bnk files are now obsolete, do we still have to use your modded version of SuperSawndz, or can we use the original version to make .sawnd files? That version works for me fine. I also can't seem to get the new RSBE code to recognize .sawnd files at all ingame. Again, to clarify, the files are formatted like "29.sawnd" , and they are in 'pf/sfx'.

In any case, I very much appreciate your work to bring custom sounds to us Gecko users.

The hacks I downloaded came with .BNK files as opposed to .SAWND files, and when I clicked "create .BNK", it says, "RSBE v1.20 does not support .BNK files; you should use .SAWND files instead". Is there any way to convert .BNK files to .SAWND files instead? Or is there a different solution?

I switched from .bnk to .sawnd because no such flexibility or conversion exists for .bnk files. You should ask whoever put the soundbanks together to provide .sawnd files instead.

Hello guys. I have some trouble with exchange soundeffects. So i post my problem here:

Ok, first i go to F:\private\wii\app\RSBE\pf. There i create a folder named sfx. Then i put the smashbros_sound.brsar, Super Sawndz.exe, sound.wav and sawndz.exe  in there. I open the Super Sawndz.exe, klick on Peach (73BF1), go to [1E7] RWSD (4063F) and select Audio[14] (1E10)
SCREENSHOT 1
(http://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/007548-1381063802.png) (http://www.bilder-upload.eu/show.php?file=007548-1381063802.png)

I have selected the file. There is the Group ID 23, Collection ID 487 and the WAV ID 20. After that i klick on the ... button to Input File. I choose the sound.wav. The wav is in a frequenz of 22050. In the next step i click on INSERT and automaticly the sound of the Audio[14] (1E10) is played but it's the same like bevor.
SCREENSHOT 2

And thats the problem. I couldn't change the sound

You can't do it individually. It's either the whole group or nothing at all.

OK... so I'm having problems. My GCT is fine, ready to go. All that good stuff.

I've followed all the instructions perfectly, but NOTHING has changed. :C

As an example, I'm editing ID 220. When doing that...
FIRST there is "menu (F89EE)"
When that is expanded, there are three thing inside:
[1BB] RWSD [14B0D]
[1CF] RWSD [1A89E]
[1A2] RWSD [C9643]
I ONLY edited material in the last one.

Then, after inserting my custom sounds, I clicked on "menu  (F89EE)" again.
Then I clicked "Create Sawnd" and named the file 220.sawnd after the ID.

I take that file and placed in square in the SD:/private/[...]/pf/sfx folder.

...What could I possibly be doing wrong?

When an altered category exceeds the "normal size", it turns red, right? Two of my altered categories have turned red, so I assume the file size has changed. (I assume the change in size is small enough to prevent freezing).

I've been asking around and somebody suggested I might be using a GCT that only works with .bnk files. But I have a feeling that's not the case... In fact, I don't even think such a GCT exists. (I'm on a computer that can't open GCTEdit for WHATEVER reason...) Using the "Melee Link Voice SFX v2.6b [Project Melee]" GCT. (He seems to know about Super Sawndz too, so I assume .sawnd files should work...)

If someone here has a PM 2.6b GCT with this code and only this code added to it, I'd GREATLY appreciate a link to it.

melee [98E3C]
menu [31C50]
characall [DF130]

If ANYBODY can help me resolve this issue, I'll credit you in my Announcer hack. If you find Brawl's announcer as boring/annoying as I do, you might like to help me out, haha. Thanks in advance.

Otherwise, this is a link to my .brsar:

Wow... that is literally the whole issue. I'm the one who made those sfx and I haven't (am in the process of doing so) updated everything to use only .sawnd files. I've also finished the Announcer sfx... which will be included in the Melee SFX download whenever I update it.

Tiiiiiime... none of it has been had recently in order to update things in a timely manner heheh

...Oh! Haha, I didn't even notice you were the author of that hack! That's awesome, I really love the Link hack... I'm considering using it. Thanks for confirming the issue.

- UPDATE -
I've fixed my GCT now, it's .sawnd compatible now.

...The trouble is, I only know the code worked because the game freezes at the strap screen!! So... obviously my file sizes were too big, right? Right.

So here's what I do: I go into Audacity and make the files Mono, because I didn't notice at first they were stereo. Now they're effectively half the size. But... when inserting these new files into Super Sawnds, the text underneath the "Play" button (which displays text when you "insert" a file) seems to say that the new file is "0 bits" different than the last file. Huh??? The new file is half the size! AND, when I hit "create Sawnd", the created file is THE EXACT SAME size as it was before, even though everything is mono!! And so, after ALL this hard work, I STILL get freezes!

And it gets even WORSE... .-.

So I inserted my files that DIDN'T exceed the limit... and most of the sound have this ridiculous BZZZZT sound in them, even though they sound fine in Super Sawndz!! WHYYYYYYY are these things happening ;_;

I should mention, all my audio files are set to 44100Hz, not 22050Hz as suggested. I'm doing this for two reasons: setting it to 22050Hz makes the file longer (wouldn't that mean the file's bigger?), and also distorts my file so that the audio is really slooooow and super looooow.

Would setting it to 22050Hz fix my buzzing problem, or even my file size problem, WITHOUT distorting the audio beyond recognition?

yes, then run it, when its running, it will spit out sndconv.exe which you can move to supersawndz directory

Okay I applied the code, made a sfx folder just after pf, and put in a sawnd I had gotten from a download. So in the sfx folder there's a lone 10.sawnd sitting there. I'm trying to change Pit's voice. What did I do wrong? Nothing's changed.

Hey InternetExplorer,
I think there appears to be a conflict between RSBE and Dantarion's Alternate Stage Loader.
I think they both write to address 0x805A7D00?
Anyways just a heads up, have a good one.

Okay I'm figuring out how to use this but when I try to create a bnk file nothing come up in the folder I try to put it in. I insert the sawnd file into the brsar with Sawndz, then I open the same brsar with super sawndz, I can hear the edited sfx for the character from the Super Sawndz program, now I'm trying to create a .bnk file of these sounds and it sasks me what name I want it as and where to save it, but when I do this step and hit save, the file is nowhere to be found where I created it.

What am I doing wrong?

Post Merge: November 17, 2013, 12:18:47 PM
Okay, I found the .bnk files in my recent items but when I put them in the sfx with the codes applied nothing's changed. I'm using the extra 37 stage loader, the custom music loader for the stages, File patch 3.5.3 updated version... are there known conflicts with any of these?

Post Merge: November 17, 2013, 12:59:56 PM
No wait these were just shortcuts that led no where.

So I can't find the bnk files that the program is creating. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Using it for the sound replacement code. Doesn't use hex to my knowledge when changing the filename.

if its not 223 ( which is DF in decimal) then its either DF , or this whole gecko SFX is a LIE, or you are using an SDHC CARD which brawl doesnt support

I inserted sawndz from the vault to replace current announcer sounds. Then I used Super Sawndz to created a sawndz file of the entire 223 (export). Then I renamed that sawndz file to 223 and placed it in the SFX folder. My replaced character sounds work but the announcer calls won't.

still original announcer?

mario's was also given an example, you can check if that was named in hex or decimal

check your BRSAR if the original announcers play so you arent wondering why the hax arent playing when in fact they are, you just didnt replace anything

Post Merge: November 22, 2013, 10:20:59 PM
well I see i cant use this with my set for several reasons:
1) BRSAR is corrupted, it works flawless still when loaded with riivolution, no freezes resulting from it

2) my sfx have higher sample counts than the original, i also have way more sfx hax than anyone will ever have

3) the sawnd files only play some announcers, the rest play wii remote slots that are NOT even part of the slot the sawnd file replaces and does it statically like gecko on brstms

4) volume data isnt carried over so my sfx plays very soft (80volume) instead of loud (255 volume)

5) my hack pack consists of 1.6GB brstms, 300MB THPs, 200MB custom textures/fighters/stages, 150MB SFX

I click "Create sawnd", it sends me to save my file.
But it doesn't create the sawnd file, I cannot find it.

Super bump. I'm having the same problem, and this was never answered.

On a similar note, what volume / dB range is recommended for SFX? My sounds from Riivo were way too quiet, and they're on the verge of clipping.

open the brsar in brawlbox, and you can modify the entries params to 255, theres a param in everything that tells the game how loud to play something at

Question moved to "Super Sawndz!" thread.

I should have been more specific about what I'm doing... That's my fault.

Super Sawndz won't create a .sawnd file. I highlight a group, click "create Sawnd," it opens that window which lets me decide where to save it, then I click Save. But...I check the folder, and there's no Sawnd. Could I be missing a file? I have:

- dsptool.dll
- empty.wav
- readme.txt
- sawndz.exe
- the brsar file I'm using
- sndconv.exe
- soundfile.dll
- Super Sawndz.exe

It's a really weird issue I'm having.

I'm guessing it's a different FPC than the one used for Project M because when I tried to use this sound replacement code it freezes right after I choose a stage

Can someone post the modified FPC?

For some reason, this thread mentions the File Patch Code 4.0...but that version of the code is buggy as hell, and has been abandoned for a while now. The best version of this code is 3.5.1.

This code doesn't work AT ALL out of Project M.

I've followed every single instruction, but now Sonic freezes as soon as I select him.
There are NO hacks in my Wii but the ShadowKong PSA and the voice SFX.

Tried removing the hacks again to see what was going on, still crashed.
Got rid of the code, selected Sonic again, perfect.

The same thing happened when I selected Wario.

Now I think I should go back to Riivolution.

projectM 3.0 COMES with the RSB engine code
additionally, projectM is NOT compatable with custom PSAs, you shouldnt be using project M as a base mod loader for normal modding, project M is only if you want to play competitively with THEIR rules

Project M 3.0 uses this code, and works flawlessly.
Out of Project M, this code doesn't work.
No sounds are changed, and Sonic freezes when selecting him
I never said I was using it in Project M, I said I was using it OUT of Project M.
I tried to use it out of it, and it didn't work.
Read again.

the code works for me, you cant have huge sawnd files thi sway though, they have to be named 223.sawnd i think,  gecko is unstable as [censored] with how specific files have to be to the original in my experience, with gecko, CSPs that totaled too big froze in gecko, but not with riivo for example, while with sounds, annuncers that USED to work (which are huge) no longer work and muffle on a fresh SD AND freeze

When I put the code, what it does is to mess some of the Announcer sounds.
Also, it freezes when I select Sonic.
The same happened with Wario but at a match. He couldn't respawn because the game froze.

I was using no hacks but the ShadowKong PSA and that code.
Deleted everything, and the problem was the code.

Try without the custom song engine code. I think it's not compatible with RSBE.

The code helps to have SFX in Gecko.
But the most horrible glitch is that many other sounds of the game are messed up after including this code.
Unless used by ASF1nk or Project M.

Hey InternetExplorer,
I think there appears to be a conflict between RSBE and Dantarion's Alternate Stage Loader.
I think they both write to address 0x805A7D00?
Anyways just a heads up, have a good one.

This is a problem! D:

I don't really want to add or make new sound effects, I just wanna put in a pre-made sound pack. (Japanese voice files to be more specific.) So do I just rename the SAWND properly and copy/paste it into the folder or do I HAVE to get smashbros_sounds? Because it takes up quite a chunk of space, so I really don't want to download it if I don't have to...

EDIT: So I figured out I just had to copy/paste them. :>.>palm:

I still can't get this to work flawlessly.
Works good for the most part, but there are many bugs.

When I insert the sawnd file, many other NOT hacked SFX get messed up.

Ex: I include the Shadow sawnd, the Announcer SFX are now messed.
Some of those sounds either sound terrible, or sound like a fart, or make a BEEP (freeze).

Why is this happening?

I have a .sawnd file already, so now what do I do?  I loaded everything up and my textures work, but the sound is unchanged.  I don't know if I need to change the smashbros_sound file at all or even include it on the SD card.  I also have RSBE01.gct in the codes folder, so what about the code for SoundBank?  Is it copied+pasted into the original, or a separate gct?  Thanks in advance guys.  I can't wait to get it working.

please make a folder in your pf folder called SFX,

thats where the sawnd file goes, NOW, to figure out what to name it, please load it into my BRTM copier and select "what do I name this" from the wrench menu, it will tell you what to name the file

what was its name?
keep in mind, group ID on filename is in DECIMAL

so example, announcer isnt DF.sawnd, its 223.sawnd

The ID is correct, again, another used made this, but doesn't even work. Heck, you can't even replace the soundbank (the method for Dolphin) with the files in the Krystal sawnd file, but here's the download link http://www.mediafire.com/download/g4claezw40x1lld/Krystal+Voice+Over+Peach.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download/g4claezw40x1lld/Krystal+Voice+Over+Peach.zip)

You can also do the SD.raw method for Dolphin and every replacement works, except sound replacement.

It is, as I said, the Brawl EX Clone Engine worked in Dolphin, as did the BRSTM replacements and character mods, the only thing that didn't was the SAWND file, it refused to load. The whole process of replacing sounds is convoluted, if only there was a way to edit the sound bank itself using the created sawnd files (as in extracting individual samples).

something may not be loading ur rsbe code for sawnds
dolphin is very buggy at times at loading codes
sometimes u have to make extra codes and enable them and add an extra 000000000 00000000 at the end of the code
for some reason sometimes dolphin cuts the last line in code
so adding the 000000 000000  prevents any problems

Never tried that, intriguing. With that said, the other method would be edit and replace the samples in the sound bank (it's the file that's about 128 MB in size), as that's an alternate way, using a program called SawndBox, at least, I think. Nevertheless, I wish there was a way to permanently replace audio.  There's no way to extract individual samples form the sawnd into wav files is there. Now obviously, sawnd files contain all the voices for the character but couldn't the opposite be done and have them extracted? If that can be done, I can get Krystal voice samples to work without using the code.

OK, thanks Diddy.  I'm still unsure of the directory though, because I've seen pf/sound/sfx, pf/sfx, and pf/sound so far.

I also have two gct files, but it seems that Gecko is only reading RSBE01 (for textures).  Should I add the soundbank code there or will it mess it up?

I don't even know if just those steps alone are enough to get it working...

if you think about it, having a code to replace the sound bank on a wave per wave bais would mean over 7,000 waves with different confusing names and even more questions on what's what and it would still need a code, if you want this sawnd file issue to go away and edit individual wavs, use brawlbox, the BRSAR, and riivolution/inject the brsar into your USB loader game image  and BOOM, only one file to worry about, but of course, you would need to somehow have attack, release, volume, and loop data in your wav file in brawl's format if we went your way =P

Yeaaaah that's what I was afraid of, until there can be a less, how do I say, convoluted way to replacing sound on a temporary or permanent basis, I'm gonna have to give up on it in the mean time. It just sounds like a real pain in the arse to have to do, no matter what method I use. With that said, the sawnd file that the user created for my Krystal over Peach hack doesn't work, but other replaced files in the SD.raw + Dolphin method work fine, so the sawnd file is likely corrupted; I've been unable to contact the user who made it. I do know that the file is the correct ID and in the right folder.

But again, I doubt there will be an easier way to replace sound on the fly. I know it's possible to use the File Patch Code as it works fine in Dolphin using Gecko OS, the raw SD card and setting it to the default ISO. I don't have a regular Wii to test it on.

That's not what I meant at all. The replaced files for characters, music, yes, they worked, the sawnd file did NOT work no matter what method I used. So yes, character mods, Brawl EX Clone Engine, BRSTM hacks, all worked with the File Patch Code, the sawnd did not, it's corrupted and I've no way to contact the creator, he hasn't been active lately. The bloody  file is FUBAR, so I can't use it even if I wanted to ;D :P I'm just going to simply not even bother with it due to the frustration I get.

As for using it on a Wii, I can't since I no longer have one at my place, I have a Wii U, I could do it that way, but it takes longer to load up since I have to load Wii Mode. I never meant for me to sound like the sawnd file worked, because it doesn't

fubar?
if you check a file in hex edit there should be the text "RBNK" or "RSWND" somewhere (if its this, then its a valid file for brawl

Not denying that, I'm just saying it's causing me too much grief trying to replace the sound. Is it even feasible to extract samples from the individual sawnd file at all (which aren't big to begin with)?  Could someone test it in addition to me, to see if it works for them?

I still can't get this to work flawlessly.
Works good for the most part, but there are many bugs.

When I insert the sawnd file, many other NOT hacked SFX get messed up.

Ex: I include the Shadow sawnd, the Announcer SFX are now messed.
Some of those sounds either sound terrible, or sound like a fart, or make a BEEP (freeze).

Why is this happening?

I am having the same exact problem with the announcer SFX, some that aren't even changed have weird sounds now.
HELP?

your sfx hacks are constrained to the  limit of the original's (this includes the byteslength/length of each clip, not the whole group) when using the method in this guide, it doesn't happen when using the older riivo method, please consider dumming down the quality of all your clips, or if it was a download, somehow rip , degrade, and recomcpile the sawnd file

That's not the issue.

I (believe) I fixed it by using Audacity to make the SFX.

We all are FORCED to use Audacity to make them work flawlessly.

and how does ITS encodign of bytes differer from say sony ACID? ? i made all my sfx with ACID and had NO problems

Example, a friend DID use adacity (they ended up all 48k frequency) and his sawndboard annucner call pack was just suddenly toon link in battle when ROB was picked  what fixed it was his announcer pack had to be changed to frequency 5,000 from 48,000

additionally all my unoptimal non audacity hacks work flawlessly with my riivo that I am happy with

I have yet to fully understand you, unfortunately. Allow me to give you an example in order for you to properly show me how to fix it, please. I have this Goku Announcer Call in the .wav format which I want to insert over Pit's Announcer Call in characall(GROUP ID:223). Here is the exact one I want in the Vault: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=196503 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=196503)
So what should I do to the .wav before inserting it(extra info: Pit's duration of his Announcer Call is 00:00.59 whereas Goku's .wav duration is 00:00.66)? Oh, and by the way, I do have the 3 .dll's required in order to convert the goku.wav to .sawnd.

You do NOT have to use audacity. Audacity and all other DAW software free or not will mix dowm to .wav. Which is NOT a proprietary filetype. They are all encoded in the same fashion.

The reason your audio is messed up is because your new sound was larger then the previous sound. in one way our another it is larger in filesize. This could be caused by the program used if any enhancements were applied, or if the sample rate is too high

the trick is to have it not leak past the original size, the easiest way to understand this is to use the exact frequency and cap at the original length

example:
replacing a 5 second 48k sound
with no bigger than a 5 second clip thats 48k

to go over this, you can use up to say a 15 second clip at 6k

in this random example:

I will be using a 1.27 second clip and demonstrating how one copy of it will go over the original "length"

now lets say the original clip is 0.7 seconds long and originally a 32000 frequency clip
which is 87KB in size

I have a clip thats 1.27 seconds long and its 48K audio, its size is 256 KB

a copy of it at 44.1k, its size is 219KB

another copy of it at 32k, its size is 159KB

and a final copy of the same thing at 16k, its size is 79KB

the copy at 16k will fit and not cause problems (despite being a longer length), but the 32k, 44.1k, and 48k WILL go over the size limit

higher quality wave samples will result in a larger datasize when replacing

Very well, thank you for your help!
Using Audacity to correct my problems shall suffice, correct?
Anyways, besides this problem, I was wondering if you could assist me with another I'm having regarding SFX as well. See, today I downloaded Sasuke over Meta Knight by Jrush(link to the PSA: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=34401 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=34401))
Anyways, at first I just put the pf/fighter/metaknight files in to test the character and some moves had Ike's voice. After that, I put in the SFX that was in the download which was for meta knight to have Sasuke's voice. I put it and it wasn't working so I put some codes that were provided in the download and the voice worked, but only for the FitMetaKnight00 texture and not others. Also, it wouldn't work when battling other custom characters with SFX. After it does not work, it will completely stop working and go back to Ike's voice on Meta Knight until I restart my Wii and ONLY choose the FitMetaKnight00 texture and go against default characters. Do you think you know what is going on?
Check the download link for more information, if needed. Thanks in advance!

shoren ALL the clips in the sound clips in the file OR
change the frequency in the white box in audacity to 6000 and reimport the wavs

the voices will shound like [censored] but they will work

I managed to get the whole group smaller than the original size, but it still only works on the first texture and only against default characters. It's strange because this is the only character that causes this problem...every other custom character SFX is fine.

How can you fix SFX becoming Static or "farts"?

I am forced to use Audacity to stop that, but Audacity crashes too often.

I took this code off and deleted all my .sawnd files I had in the sfx folder and the info.pac actually loaded. Is there ever gonna be a fix for the code, becuz I really like this code. But at the same time, I also like the info.pac file not freezing XD

at the moment its only possible by two ways
1. replace a boss sounds and link it to the clone
2. edit a characters sounds, null some sounds, and edit the psa so only the new sounds affect the clone

i dont know how to do either of those, but a quick search in the forums can help you.

Excuse me but it seems I've encountered a problem. I downloaded the DBZ punch and kicks sfx from the brawl vault and I inserted them in the group(id)7 replacing the regular punch and kick sounds I am also on playing on my external hardrive and using usb loader GX. My hooktype for ssbb is vbi. when I load the game up the game loads up normally and everything looks ok so far but when i enter the match i get a silent freeze. so i go back to my computer and load up super sawnds, and I noticed that joucyu (114B6B) is highlighted red and my 7.sawnd is 1.30mb. i wanted to know if there was a way for me to reduce the file size of my 7.sawnd ? Also I know my other sounds like chars sfx and announcer sfx were working before i added the DBZ sfx files and my gct has your replacement sound bank engine code in i. but my problem is that the 7.sawnd is over the file size limit and i want to reduce it.

What I normally do before adding a .sawnd file to the sfx folder is:

1. Open the .brsar in Super Sawndz and extract the original .sawnd file.
2. Compare it's filesize with the one I want to change.
3. If it is smaller than the original, fine. But if not, then you will need to insert the modified .sawnd file in the .brsar and remove some SFX from it.

How? Just click in a sound you normally would never use and replace it with the empty.wav (included in the Super Sawndz download).

Normally, by replacing one sound (specially the longer ones) with the empty.wav reduces enough filesize.

I don't know if I have an older version of the code or not, but I'm having issues making it compatible with my plan to replace the Pokemon sound bank. Using Super Sawnds and BB, I've made a sound bank with the Pokemon sawnd ID, and in it I replaced the Pokemon sounds with new sounds. However, it hasn't changed the Pokemon's sfx in game (Their voices). Now enemy sawnd files work fine in this way, but Pokemon do not. Has that been fixed or is there a special extra step for this?
