Title: Recommended PSAs and characters? Post by: Buttsmash on September 30, 2013, 11:02:18 PM Hey folks. I'm sorry that this is probably in the wrong section or breaking some kind of rule, but I'm a complete newcomer to Brawl hacking. And the forum. I honestly don't know the first thing about either.
I see that there are a lot of guides here for beginners like me, and I'm going to be filtering through them at some point to learn how to do all this stuff. Namely, just downloading characters. My current situation is that I'm going to college and we all love Brawl on our floor. I figured it'd be a fun activity to hack in a bunch of new characters and surprise them all with them. My problems are, as I stated, I don't know the first thing about Brawl hacking. So the first favor I'd like to ask: could someone point me in the direction of the best, clearest guide to go from an unhacked Wii to being able to import new characters? Second of all, I need you guys' recommendations: I want to include brand new characters into the game. But not just reskins or remodels: like full moveset-changing PSAs. Things that'll really change up the game. For example, that Waluigi hack that's going to be completed soon-ish is a perfect example of what I want. A well-made hack of a new character with its own individual balanced moveset, and as a bonus, has its own sound effects, portraits, etc. A lot of work went into it. I'm looking to ask you guys if you could also point me in the direction of what YOU think are the best hacks to come out of the Smash community (not just here, btw). I'd really like to introduce some new variety into my game, and the best-made characters will do the best job at that. Thank you all so much! Title: Re: Recommended PSAs and characters? Post by: Aura Sphere on October 01, 2013, 03:10:24 PM I used shock44's tutorial to go from a scrub to a pretty moderately advanced hacker. I'm adding my own music now, retexturing character models, importing characters over others (I have 4 Marths, 5 Ikes, and 4 Sonics, each with different PSAs), and more thanks to learning the basics from him, and trying things out myself. Here's how to get started. You can find his other tutorials on his channel. You should watch these tutorials first, like on how to set up Homebrew on your Wii, before reading any of the jumbled mess I have to say:
Brawl Hacking Tutorial [1]: Starting out {Bannerbomb and Gecko OS} (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqNxC4OBJAY#) You'll preferably want a 2 gigabyte SD card (not an SDHC or anything else like that), because that's the max size Gecko (I find Gecko less of a hassle than Riivolution) will work with (or I think the Wii in general). As to where you put the hacks. When you format your SD card for the Wii, you make a folder in your SD card labeled "codes". This is where your gct file goes (the one with the codes to make the hacks work. Near the bottom of this post, I have a link to the download of my gct file and a text file with all the codes I have in it listed. As for the hacks themselves, make another folder in your SD card named "Private". In that folder, make another folder named "Wii". In that folder, make another folder named "App". In that folder, make another folder named (unless you're a PAL user) "RSBE" (for PAL users, it's "RSBP"). In that folder, make a folder named "pf". This next step you won't have to do if you scroll to the bottom of this post and download my pf folder that I linked. Just download that and extract all the folders into the pf folder you made on your SD card. If you don't download my pf folder contents, in your pf folder, make all the following folders: CSP CSS Fighter Info info2 Menu menu2 module sound stage system Now I don't play much with the CSP or CSS, but there is a good hack out there for the CSS (character select screen). The folder you'll care about most is the fighter folder. This is where character hacks go. Inside the "fighter" folder, make a list of the following folders, unless you downloaded my pf folder contents: Captain dedede Diddy Donkey Falco Fox GameWatch Ganon gkoopa ike Kirby koopa Link Lucario Lucas Luigi Mario Marth Metaknight Ness Peach Pikachu Pikmin Pit PokeFushigisou PokeLizardon PokeTrainer PokeZenigame Popo Purin Robot Samus Sheik Snake Sonic SZerosuit Toonlink wario Warioman wolf Yoshi Zakoball Zakoboy Zakochild Zakogirl Zelda These are the folders for the individual character hacks. Captain is Captain Falcon. Pikmin is Olimar. Purin is Jigglypuff. Popo is Ice Climbers. Robot is R.O.B.. SZerosuit is Zero Suit Samus. PokeFushigisou is Ivysaur. PokeLizardon is Charizard. PokeTrainer is, well Pokemon Trainer. PokeZenigame is Squirtle. Koopa is Bowser. Gkoopa is Giga Bowser. Warioman is Wario's Final Smash. Zakoball is Green Alloy. Zakoboy is Red Alloy. Zakochild is Yellow Alloy. Zakogirl is Blue Alloy. Inside the "Sound" folder, make a folder named "strm". Here is where you put brstm files (found here or at http://www.brawlcustommusic.com/, (http://www.brawlcustommusic.com/,) and I also have some custom brstm I haven't added here yet). You can replace stage songs or menu songs, or victory themes with the brstm music files you put in this folder. You just have to know which songs you want to replace. This site (http://pastebin.com/2ybaaPU1) will tell you what the file name of each Brawl song is, so you know what to rename your brstm file when you put it in the "strm" folder. It also gives you the names of the stage files and character files too. VERY helpful. Basically, if I want to replace a song from the Final Destination with Star Wars' Duel of the Fates (http://www.mediafire.com/?16thh4da6w5b3lk) (will add this to my vault later), I would take the brstm file in the download link, place it in the "strm" folder, and rename it to either "X05.brstm", "T01.brstm", "T03.brstm", "W25.brstm", or "W31.brstm" because those are the song files that play on Final Destination. In the "stage" folder you make, place another folder in it called "melee". This is where all stage hacks go. Usually the stage hack is named correctly, but if you're putting it over a different stage than intended (which you need a module for), you'll have to rename it to go over the right stage. The one link above, like I said, will tell you what the stages are called. The "module" folder is where you put different .rel files. They are what allow you to use hacks intended for... say Sonic, but on other characters. If you make a module file for Ganondorf to make him play like Sonic, you can use any Sonic hack on Ganondorf. You only have to rename the files to go on Ganondorf (basically when it's called "FitSonic.pac", you'd rename it to "FitGanon.pac", and the same with any other Sonic file). This also goes for stages. Modules let you play hacks intended for Final Desintation, or any other stage, on pretty much any stage you choose. Not all characters can be ported to other characters, and I've found that it doesn't work well when trying to import a character over Kirby, but here's a link to the post that has a software that lets you edit character modules, and then a list of downloads for the modules that you can edit. Just download the module editor and the module of the character you want to port over another character, and then follow the instructions given in the post on how to use it. Module editor (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=53347.0) Basically, Cloud and Sephiroth are popular hacks. Cloud is an Ike hack and Sephiroth is a Marth hack. If you wanted Cloud over Dedede, you just download the Ike module from the above link, open it in the module editor and change two small values (that it tells you to change in the post) from Ike's to Dedede's. The post also has a list of the values you have to change them to. You would also need codes for Dedede to have a normal jump, or for characters like Pikachu to have no crawl, if porting characters over them. For making stage modules to put almost any stage hack on almost any stage you want, look at shock44's tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfSv5RVv0-E#). He provides the download link for the stage switcher program, and tells you how to use it. If the download link no longer works, I have it for you. You also need codes for these hacks to work. To make a gct file, you need the Ocarina Code Manager (http://www.mediafire.com/?b0cujbu9ece87vd). This code manager allows you to open up the text file where you keep your codes, then select or unselect what codes you want to use, and then export them to gct, which puts them on your SD card. Here's a code you will need if using Gecko OS. Save everything in the spoiler to a text document. That way when you open it in the code manager, it already has the game it's for listed. Unless you're using PAL, in which case rename it to "RSBP01", but I think PAL is for Japan(?). This is what I use in the States (or you could just download my codes at the bottom of the post). This is the only code you need to allow the hacks to work. But here are some other good codes to add to your code list: And as for hacks, I'll post the ones I'm using, for characters and stages. First is the flaming blue character select screen WITH icons for Giga Bowser, separate Pokemon, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Nana, Popo, Warioman, and the 4 Alloys. http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=34388 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=34388) If you're using Gecko OS as your code reader, you rename the "sc_selcharacter_en.pac" to "sc_selcharacter.pac" and place it in your "manu2" folder. I'm kinda lazy to post all the individual hacks, and some of them were already on my SD card so I don't know which ones they are exactly on the vault, so I'll just post a download for my entire pf folder. Just download and extract all the folders into the pf folder of your SD card. I can tell you at least what character models, movesets, stages, and most music on it. From there then, you can change the hacks how you want. My entire pf folder (http://www.mediafire.com/?5zo3x286fl70b29) Here's a list of the character models I have, their moveset, and which costume/file name each one is on: I'm gonna try to remember all the stage/music hacks I have on. Actually, you know what? Here are the codes I use to make my character hacks and other hacks work. Just download this and put them all in your "codes" folder. My codes (http://www.mediafire.com/?gebx9z8bbc2lg94) There's a text document with all the codes in already. The asterisk next to each line of code means it will be checked off already when you open it in the Ocarina Code Manager. You'll need to watch the tutorial first on how to get Homebrew onto your Wii. There might also be some other stuff you need, which should be in his videos. My 2 downloads will just provide my hacks (which you can change) and the codes for them. I can't think of much else for now. To get started, watch his tutorials, and his others for more advanced stuff. They really help. My 2 downloads are just to get started with some cool hacks, but you can change them to suit your preference. I have them all color coded so that Sora and Riku will be on a team (Blue) or Sonic and Shadow (Blue) or Sasuke and Itachi (Blue) or Ansem and his Guardian (Green) or Cloud and Tifa or Sephiroth (Red) and so on. Post Merge: October 01, 2013, 03:15:07 PM I should mention that my gct doesn't have the Warioman Fix code active, because my Warioman doesn't work anyway. You would have to open the text file in the Code Manager, have all the codes there checked off, and export them to the gct. Don't know if he'll work though. Always, before making any changes to your SD card, copy the entire thing and paste it somewhere else as a backup. Title: Re: Recommended PSAs and characters? Post by: cupofcioffi on October 02, 2013, 08:11:24 AM Can't get a better explanation than that ^
Also personally, my favorite PSAs are as followed: Lucario - Kid Buu (w/SFX) Pit - Goku (w/SFX) Olimar - Cloud Marth - Sephiroth (w/SFX) Ganondorf - Ichigo (older one) R.O.B - Geno Link - Squall (Saber PSA moveset) Snake - Deadpool (w/SFX) Mr.GW - Naruto (w/SFX) (older one) Captain Falcon - Viewtiful Joe Jigglypuff - Scott Pilgrim Luigi - Bomberman Mario - Mickey Mouse Diddy King - Sora Falco - Master Chief Wario - Petey Piranha Sonic - Shadow (w/SFX) Pikachu - Krillen (w/SFX) Ike - Dante (w/SFX) Peach - Megaman X Ice Climbers - Crash Bandicoot Those are just some of my favorites, a lot are .rel ported some aren't. I think that these are some of the best hacks (especially the ones with SFX) they are all relatively within each other in terms of power which is amazing so nobody is OP and they are all unique movesets. I wish I could just send you my SD card's files to make it easier. I hope this helps! |
