Title: Giry's models ~ More Woolly Stuff
Post by: Taigiry on August 16, 2014, 03:12:02 AM
I kinda started making models  a few months ago... well "making". All I did was taking existing model parts, mostly from Brawl, and rearrange them to make something that remotely looks like whatever I wanted to do. But it was fun, so I continued. My first model was Lip... who I'd rather not show, haha. Old shame and all that. But no one cares about that so without further ado, here it goes.

Also before I forget, I suck at making textures and I can't rig, all I can do is making those models. It sucks, but ah well...

I still love that Popples. ;)

And the style for Lip is interesting. I like the child-like vibe it gives off. :)

As for Alice, it really looks accurate.

Digging your stuff, and as a stage hacker and Panel de Pon fan, I'm specially digging the stage. Will Lip's face be textured or modeled?

So, Lip's nearly done, only thing missing are the flowers and proper textures:

Also because I can't figure out how to add a poll (if it's even possible), I'll simply ask this here. I'm thinking about who to do next:
  • Sablé Prince
  • Takamaru
So my question is, who would you wanna see more?

I still love that Popples. ;)
Yeah, I know, I promised to give you the model for your fangame, but I wanna complete the textures first. On the bright side, you have Saria to keep you occupied, haha. Good luck on her.

Digging your stuff, and as a stage hacker and Panel de Pon fan, I'm specially digging the stage. Will Lip's face be textured or modeled?
Nice to see another PdP fan. Anyway, thanks. As for Lip, the head is using a Neptunia model as a base, so it'll be textured. Also you're a stage hacker? I think then you're the right person to ask, would it e possible to port the fish from Summit to other stages or keep Summit from moving, so that it's stuck at the water section, but with the fish still appearing? Because that might influence my decision on whether to make a Balloon Kid stage model in the futere.

Fantastic. You are my idol.Make me for good idea.
He, thanks a lot, but idol is a bit too much I'd say. There are people out there who are far more talented.

For adding a poll, you go to the bottom right of the thread page, there should be options in caps. One of them says "Add Poll". :)

Honestly, I don't know. I believe it would be possible to make it so the stage stays stopped there by editing the STPM data within Summit's file, but I'm not sure if it's possible to get the fish out from the start. Maybe, it'd be possible to use another stages' hitboxes to get the same effect. But really, I don't know. I'm definitely not the best person to discuss STPM because I rarely use its effects on my stages, but if you ask on the help section someone from the community may help you get the effect you need.

Post by: Taigiry on August 30, 2014, 01:52:02 PM
Been a while, eh? As the title says, I made a truely final Lip now, did some work on Takamaru and need help with an error. Anyway, first things first.

Here's the final Lip model, I really won't change anything anymore:
Looks better than the previous ones, if I may say so myself.

Moving on to Takamaru, he's still a WIP, though at this point, it's mostly just texturing stuff.
As you can see, I did next to nothing texture related at this point. Hope I'll get around to do it next week.

Now for the error I was talking about. I was trying to export a .max file (stage, if that makes a difference) as a .dae and got this error message:
The result was that multiple model parts were slightly deformed and/or moved around. Anyone here know how to fix it?

And last but not least, I'm looking for some suggestions on who or what to do after Takamaru. I'm drawing a blank right now, so... anyone or anything you guys wanna see?

Outdated stuff:
And Lip's done:
There are two different versions, one being somewhat more modern and the other one being closer to the official art.

Honestly, I don't know. I believe it would be possible to make it so the stage stays stopped there by editing the STPM data within Summit's file, but I'm not sure if it's possible to get the fish out from the start. I see, thanks. Going by the poll, I'll be busy with Takamaru anyway for the time being, but I'll keep that in mind.

I have NEVER even heard of that error before. That's very odd.

And if you need help rigging your Lip, I'll gladly do so.

Help? No, sorry, I don't need help, I'm not cut out for this whole rigging thing and I won't try it again. If you want the model though, just say so. And I think I'll just let the topic die anyway, no point in having updates when there's a clear lack of interest.

I think she's just lost patience with rigging as well as being fed up of Brawl, if I understood correctly.

For clarification, I never said I won't do anything, I just said I won't make any updates here anymore. In fact, I just continued on the stage and got it imported without any freezes. Still needs a lot of work though.

Ah, I must have misinterpreted your message. Still, since you are continuing your work it would be nice to see updates periodically - seeing ambitious projects, like this stage, getting closer to completion might entice more users to leave feedback.

Oh nice, the stage is completed! I'll give it a try soon. Until then, maybe you should throw a link to this thread in the Brawl Vault description; that should bring in some traffic.

Nearly done, just a few animations missing, mostly balloon related stuff and proper collisions. So far, it still uses FD's collision data.

Old:
New WIP, it's Pencilvania, the first stage from Balloon Kid. I haven't decided on a final layout yet, though it'll probably stay the way it is now. Maybe make the plattforms a bit higher.

What a neat stage! I like all the detail in the background.

I'm worried that it might be too hard to differentiate the foreground and background, though, considering parts of the background use the same textures as the main platform. I suggest adding some fog that is the same color as the lightest part of the sky. It doesn't have to be a dense fog or anything, just enough so that players can quickly tell what is in the foreground and what is not.

And Pencilvania released. Link's in the OP. I'm not sure what to do next. I could finish the texture work on Alice and Takamaru, but there's not really any point. Nor can I think of another stage to make...

Wouldn't be a Balloon Fight stage without balloons, eh? Nor would it be a Balloon Kid stage without Little Jim flying around... poor kid.

I tend to spend too much time with background elements, like trying to recreate the Panel de Pon SNES background 100%, down to the shape of the big island.

As for your visibility concerns, I personally didn't find it too hard to see, but, just in case, I made the background textures slighty brighter, like in Yoshi's Island (Melee).

I'm greatly enjoying your Pencilvania and Popples. They're good ideas. Panel de Pon should get more representation in Smash, and this stage is perfect.

P.S.: I'm almost ready to continue Lip. ;)

Alright, some personal rambling here...

The SSB 3DS stages are pretty great. I had concerns about them being too gimmicky, but after playing for a bit, I think they are actually well made, there's no stupid crap like Bramble Falls. Magicant looks really pretty in person, I might actually try to make it, but without all the Earthbound/MOTHER 2 references, I feel they are kinda out of place.

But I'm not really feeling the living room stage. That one's kinda boring. Still, the majority of the stages is pretty fun.

Also I got one of those fancy sig thingies now, yay.

He, thanks, I totally agree, but at least Balloon Fight and Panel de Pon get to make cameos since Melee, with Balloon Fight even getting a stage this time. So did you try Pencilvania? Was the stage easy to discern from the background?

Also can't wait fror Lip, haha, but take your time.

Are you referring to the moving platforms and 'built in assist character' aspects of the stage, or the the clips of gameplay that appear periodically in the background? Magicant is actually my favorite new stage in Smash 4, but it is the former that I do not care for, rather than the latter.

Given the circumstances Ninten and (in a sense) Ness visit Magicant, it is not that odd to include flashbacks or 'memories' of the pair's past adventures. Plus, its nice to see Ninten make an appearance in the Smash franchise. I can understand that some might find this distracting, however it is not so in my case.

Title: Re: Giry's models ~ Oh, shiny video
Post by: Taigiry on November 07, 2014, 01:08:51 PM
Many thanks to Tabuu for making the original rig of Lip, but I decided to still tweak some stuff. The normals were ,for some reason, inside out, making the shading very weird and the skin was too bright. Also I made a size mod and made the jewels shiny. No release of that version yet, due to it still being a WIP, but I made a video showing the smaller Lip in action:
Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lgLC87sVOE#)
Also, yay, crappy DVD recorder quality.

That's good, because that wasn't my intention at all. But the whole shading issues really bothered me, especially the skirt, but that's fixed now.

In other news, I've gone bck to Alice and intend to fully finish her now. It's mostly just making the textures though, model work is done. I'll also continueing working on Lip while doing so.

Yeah, a PSA is waaay outta my league.

Anyway, some more stuff:
I made Lip's bracelets translucent:

But that's not all, the download will have four different kinds of Lip, one without size mod, one with an one-slot mod and then both of them with and without rim lightning:
Standard (http://oi59.tinypic.com/29pvmmo.jpg)
Rim (http://oi59.tinypic.com/4ghoad.jpg)
Comparison (http://oi58.tinypic.com/2gwtd2x.jpg)

I also managed to get the tristripper working, resulting in much less lag when multiple of her are on the field. Now you might be thinking what's left to do, truthfully, not much. I just have to re-add metal and then do CSS stuff, maybe also some recolors. That's it. Maybe there'll be a download tomorrow, depending on how much stuff I can get done.

You mean the bracelets? Thanks, but it's actually just the material used by the helmet of Olimar's black costume, only recolored.

Anyway, I re-added the metal materials, so now I'm working on the CSS stuff... and it's giving me a small headache with how unorganized Brawl is. You have the stock icons in one folder and the very same icons also in another folder, too, just this time those are used on the stage select screen. Then the very same portrait images are used for both, in battle and the character select, and yet, they are in different locations, too. Then there are all the different fonts the names use and also all the extra stuff, like the series icons... it's just a big mess.

I really have to make a list of where everything is located, just in case.

Battle Portraits go on info/portrite,
Results Portrait go on menu/common/char_bust_tex,
CSPs go on menu2/sc_selcharacter

Many other things related to the CSS go on sc_selcharacter as well.
A few things go on info2/info. I don't quite remember which.

There might also be something to change on the SSS too. If that's the case, it's in menu2/sc_selmap

Yeah, I have a general idea where everything goes, doesn't change the fact that you still have to dig around much inside those files itself.

Anyway, before going to bed, I just uploaded Lip. Here's the link. (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=206935) Will updated the OP tomorrow.

And time to release the Woolly Double Pack, featuring Yoshi and the stage. Everything comes with the necessary menu stuff.

Alright, I added a poll, one being a stage from SSB4, the other one being kinda an oddball. I was also considering making a Nendoroid Generations stage, because I thought a crossover game like that would have some nice stages, but nope, everything was fairly generic.

Oh, and there also was a second K-On stage I was considering (http://oi58.tinypic.com/2u7yjwi.jpg), but the textures would look like crap on the big screen, so I decided against that one.

To be honest, the only thing interesting about Nendoroid Generations are the chibi-like characters or the weapons (for item hack), otherwise, it is pretty generic, indeed ...

I'd rather see a K-On stage than that blasted Miiverse stage. Funny, I doubt there's any K-On imports anyway but even so.

Oh yeah, great work on the stages you made. I was against Omega GCO until I used yours.

Seems like Miiverse is winning, which, quite frankly, isn't a surprise. Guess I'll go on the hunt for good and/or funny Miiverse drawings tonight.

Not even so sure about that, the items are fairly low poly and i dunno over which character those Nendoroids would fit. Ness and Lucas seem to be the best choice, but even then I doubt it would work out well.

Though there is kinda a novelty of having an explosive tsundere like Louise over a Bob-Omb...

I know there's a Yui over Peach, dunno about the other girls.

And thanks, but if you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with GCO omega?

The Omega stages in general are rather boring, but the work you did for that stage and my love for Kirby made me appreciate it more.

Size mod or Gamidame's "unknown flag" technique may help for importing them even over characters that aren't Lucas / Ness
And I know that the items are low poly, that's why they are good for items hack (Common3.pac freeze when it reach a certain filesize, it's better for items being low-poly as possible)
Louise would be too high for an item though ... D:

Louise's too high poly for a Bomb-Omb import? Well, there goes the little interest in item swaps I had.

Anyway, not gonna make a poll for this, so I'll ask you guys directly instead. What kinda Miiverse drawings would you like to see?
  • Brawl related only
  • Smash Bros only
  • Anything goes
  • Or maybe something else entirely?

I prefer Smash Bros only, no matter it is about 64, Melee, Brawl or Smash 4...  8)

I would say "Anything goes", it should be fun this way

I think I've collected a fair amount of Miiverse pictures now, though I'm sorry to say, not every character will be featured. Some, like ROB just don't get any love, while you don't even try to search for, let's say, Lucina. It's a bit skewed.

Figured it doesn't hurt to post this here, too.

Still have to think of some decoration for the fighting plattform.

some plattforms may help
i've always wanted a stage with a single central plattform, that doesn't rotate like the yoshi's one

Found an Inkling model and decided to make some changes to it to make it more Brawl friendly (and also because there were parts I disliked of the original). All that's left now is texture work and then look for someone who would be interested in rigging it. I might or might not make some weapons as well.

For reference, here's what it originally looked like. (https://plus.google.com/+AdventuresInBlender/posts/isAqUmqaA6H)

Finally the main plattform is less barren. I also fixed the collision. I still need to add a plattform, don't really want to release a flat stage.

Considering it even says it's custom in the source... that's not difficult to figure out.

Her face reminds me of Villager's. Other than that, it's really looking good to me!

I really like the Magicant stage.

Is the Inkling going to have the Villager face, or is it just a placeholder? Also, who do you plan to put it over?

Title: Re: Giry's models ~ More Woolly Stuff
Post by: Taigiry on April 21, 2017, 02:38:26 PM
Been quite a while since my last post and i have to admit, i get sidetracked way, way too easily. But while digging through Yoshi's Woolly World, I found a model I really want to import. It's a small project that's quickly going to get finished over this weekend. I already fixed the texture issues and rearranged some objects to make it more suited for Smash Bros.
I'll probably add a plattform at the left, like the SSB64 how to play stage has. (http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/ssb/images/f/f5/TutorialStage.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20070113102243) Probably also some cloud/fog at the bottom, so it won't look too empty.

Also what's the general consensus on walk-off stages? If there's interest, I'll import this, too. (http://mariopartylegacy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/yoshiwiiuscreen2.bmp) I personally dislike them, so I'm in no rush to import this model when there's no interest, if at all.
