Title: Do you replace the default costume?
Post by: catgowoof on July 09, 2009, 06:52:59 PM
I was wondering how many people replace the default costume for a character.  Personally I don't, but that's because I want something new, and I usually choose what textures I'm gonna use based on how different they are from the original texture.  But some people choose to keep the original, because it's like taking a character away.  What do you guys do?

EDIT: Also what if it's a texture extremely close to the original (e.g. Melee Falcon), would you replace the default with that?

And what if it's a new suit for Snake (e.g. Gold and Black), would you consider that the default?  It's the same person, but just a better looking outfit.

Depends on the character / amount of good custom textures.

Mostly... I keep the original.

I keep the original for whatever textures have some slot spaces left.

Meh, I really don't keep them since Brawl default textures don't mean [censored] to me. I replace them with Melee/Cel-Shaded related though.

Never.  I always leave the default textures alone, even if the default textures are used for team battles.  Wario's default two outfits also stay unedited; FitWario00 and FitWario06.

Meh, easier to find and test at FitCharacter00.

Nope.  I see textures as a way to put more characters into the game, so I'm not fond of taking them out.

ya, I always swap them with my custom textures lol

it really depends on what i am doing.
if i am testing my own textures, then no, i leave them alone, but if i am testing other people's work, i always go with the default (but i forgot to take those files off my sd card, so now i have some oddly deformed unfinished textures as defaults for a lot of my characters lol)
im just lazy and i always know that 00 is open and i dont need to look at the syntax error chart to make sure i am replacing a valid number (then i have to find it in the game)

I currently have a texture on every costume of every character, including the original costumes. But now I want to be able to play as the originals again, so I'm gonna have to go through all my textures and take out on from each character. (Which sucks because some characters have so many awesome textures, like Toon Link, and some don't have many costumes, like Pikachu.)

Rarely. Very rarely. Only times I ever do is whenever I come across a texture more reminiscent to the original, as such:

EDIT: Also what if it's a texture extremely close to the original (e.g. Melee Falcon), would you replace the default with that?

...And, at times, if I'm desperate enough to fill up an entire character line-up, I'll simply make a quick texture to replace the original... Doppelgangers and whatnot do nicely. (i.e. Dark Meta Knight; Shiny Pikachu; Stadium Mewtwo; possibly Ninten for Ness; etc.)

The only time I replace the original costume is when I'm test a new texture I made. Otherwise I do everything I can to make sure I don't replace It, For example Funky Kong replaces blue DK, Twilight Princess Toon Link replaces NES Link, SMAAAASH!! Captain Falcon replaces blue Captain Falcon, Etc. The reason I don't replace the default costume is because I think replacing It defeats the purpose of the default costumes existence.

I try my best not to use the default, but sometimes there are just too many good textures.

I prefer leaving my default alone, but I used TP toon link for TL's default...

When I'm making a texture and the character's other slots are full I use the default until its done.

I always keep the original character.

I keep the original character, but often use the spaces for testing textures that I made.

The only original I used is Fox's, I put Falco's original .pcs file as fox's original.

It results in leg streching and teleporting.

Quite fun.

I sometimes do, it depends on the texture.

I have all the ones that I'm working on as defalt, but I haven't switched all of the ones I've finished, so yeah, I guess I do.

I will never replace the default costumes. I like every canon design too much to do that.

Okay, well, I sort of lied. I changed ever single Pikcahu outfit to have the goggles, color coordinated. Because they are just that awesome.

The only characters who I replaced the original on are Zamus (Fusion > Zero Suit) and Mario, however the two look very similar to their originals so I don't count it as a major (http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/143/193/cad-20080602-358b1.jpg?1309710446).

Unless it looks exactly like the original with one small detail (smiling Mario), I would never replace the originals.

if it's a team colour, the texture has to match the team colour :P
But if it is not a team colour, I usually would replace it.
