Title: Official PokeZonic Help Thread
Post by: DUMMY on November 25, 2017, 12:58:27 PM
I'm starting a thread here to help people that may have issues with my mod.

These are all currently known bugs:

Disable Panic Handler as it causes several issues.

Make sure your Hooktype is set to AXNextFrame.

Make sure you are running a version of Dolphin that has SDHC support. Always use a 4GB or higher Virtual/SDHC card.

Try to avoid having a player select an original brawl character for one match and then select a clone based on
that character for the next match as this can cause instability (backing out of the CSS after every match
can avoid this problem but the crash is infrequent enough for me that I don't think it's worth it).

Clear mode will crash the game. [FIXED, but Clear Mode doesn't change anything]

Attempting to have a second player join in any of the solo mode activities will crash the game. [Seems to work fine now with Time Patrol]

If Naruto or Future Truncks activate their Fatal KO then the Fatal KO feature will be disabled until the game is reset. [FIXED]

Team Battles in All-Star VS mode will result in characters being stuck to a color specific costume.

After a character loses their first stock in Stamina mode they will be instantly killed if the are in their down state and will be affected by the blast zones even if the world wrap is active.

I'd recommend setting a save state at the CSS so if the game freezes you can just load the save state so as to avoid having to reboot Dolphin.

If you run this game on the Wii/Wii U then these issues will occur:
Selecting Haunter, Cloud, Naruto, Geno, Zoroark, Rainbow Dash, Piccolo, Krillin, Dark Sonic, Zamasu, Rouge the Bat, Lloyd, Gohan(Adult), Darkrai, Sephiroth, Klonoa, 2D Marisa, Airalin, Tuff Puff, Decidueye, Bass, Broly, Aegislash Knight, Megaman, Cream & Cheese, Alastor, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Emerl, Ridley, or 2D Alice may cause a crash at the result screen for some consoles. [FIXED]

The game may freeze mid-battle if Tails and Blaze are in the same battle.

Home Run Contest will freeze immediately after selecting your character. [FIXED]

Noah the Fox will always crash the game. (Fixed? I reduced the file-size of Noah's cosmetics a while ago, so it may not crash on Wii/Wii U anymore. I haven't tested this so I'm unsure of this right now.)

The FPS will drop below 60 very frequently if more then 3 high-poly characters are on screen.

There have been many reports of freezing at the CSS, I haven't ever encountered this issue and I can't recreate it. (This may be caused by using an outdated version of Dolphin.)

You told me i need to ask here for help with my issue. :D

So i'll do that.

My issue is, that whenever i try to go somewhere with the regular character selection screen, my game freezes. I can play the Adventure Mode with no issues at all, but playing regular brawls or stuff like All-Star doesnt work because it freezes everytime when it trys to load character selection.

thx for help and best regards :)

Do you have a 4GB SDHC/Virtual SD card? It can't be any higher or any less.

Yep it is 4GB.

Have you tried formatting your card to FAT32? Did you launch it with Gecko or MinimaLauncher?  Is SSBB Set as your default ISO? Are you running a PAL version?

Try and see if any earlier versions work:

I am having the same issue as the previous poster concerning dolphin.

Super+ also crashed when built as an iso. Odd that PM worked when built and this did not. It crashed on startup.

You can't use BrawlBuilder to make this with an ISO. You have to use a 4GB virtual SD card.

I tried that as well and it still crashed with Sonic pokemon Z, also downloaded the SD.raw you put in the comments of a YouTube video and it still did not work.

Did you make sure that the SD card is inserted?

Title: Re: Official Sonic Pokemon Z Bugs and Issues Thread
Post by: Jade_Rock55 on January 31, 2018, 04:33:54 PM
Yes I put brawl minus on an SD card and that worked so I know SD cards should work. Is it simply copy all contents to the root of the SD card?

Title: Re: Official Sonic Pokemon Z Bugs and Issues Thread
Post by: DUMMY on January 31, 2018, 06:10:24 PM
Yes, copy the contents to the root of the SD card, and make sure you're launching with the Boot.elf in: Sonic Pokemon Z/Apps/Gecko1931

Super Smash Bros. Brawl should also be set as the default ISO.

Title: Re: Official Sonic Pokemon Z Bugs and Issues Thread
Post by: Jade_Rock55 on January 31, 2018, 09:21:07 PM
Oh ok I think I was using the wrong boot.elf. I'll try again.

Edit: I get an error on startup, invalid read 0x00000000c, PC= 0x80e4ee9c or something like that. What dolphin version are you using? Sorry for the trouble.

Post Merge: February 01, 2018, 11:11:01 AM
Ok I think I figured it out. SD.raw files over 2gb seem to not be working. As my brawl minus one is just over 1gb and it works. Should I add the SDHC expansion code as now it just loads vbrawl. I can't seem to load gecko either only minima launcher works when I load it's boot.elf file.

No wait, it loaded before. I'm starting to think PM and dolphin just do not mix welll as I have tried other PM related hacks that also did not work.

You must have an outdated version of Dolphin that doesn't support the 4GB Virtual SD card. Try getting the newest version of Dolphin.

SdHC is supported because I can see the different intro and main menu but I cannot get into the CSS.

Title: Re: Official Sonic Pokemon Z Bugs and Issues Thread
Post by: DUMMY on February 01, 2018, 09:20:12 PM
It's the same CSS error I've been hearing about this mod. I'm still looking into it, but I can't recreate it. Try running M Super or earlier and see what that results in.

Post by: Jade_Rock55 on February 02, 2018, 11:19:17 PM
Got it to work! Sonic pokemon Z with a 4gb SD.raw.

Here's what I did:

Install an iOS 36 wad in dolphin.

Delete the config.dat file( I suppose this is to make gecko work on Wii? It just seemed to make gecko not even start. And minima launcher won't apply the code it seemed. I was playing vbrawl.
I realized my brawl minus so.raw only had codes and minusery(their custom pf folder path ) so it did not need the config.dat for dolphin.

Brawl minus does not need a gameconfig.txt but SPZ does which is apparently used to add more lines of code?
So I did not have that the first time, trying to me it look like brawl minus sd.raw which resulted in gecko saying too many SD codes found and couldn't apply them.

Thanks for the help and I hope someone finds this useful to play this as it looks really fun, or any other brawl mod. If someone has better explanations on these files that would be helpful in understanding.

I am having a problem with loading this mod pack on my wii u. When I use gecko, it shows vanilla brawl with ALL HOOKS and when i try to use minialanucher, it crashes when i try to open the character selection screen and yes, I am using a 4gb sdhc card and I am using a brawl disc. If you can help me fix this that would be nice.

Have you made sure your card is formatted to FAT32? Do you have Homebrew Channel installed? Does the same issue occur if you try launching it on a Wii?

Try deleting the config.dat file on the root of the SD card and then set the Hooktype to Axnextframe. Also see if you have the same issue with other large BrawlEx packs (Super Smash Sisters, SSB Infinite, ex.)

Hey, so I've been noticing a lot of people having trouble with your pack (Sonic Pokemon Z) in this thread, so I decided to give it a shot -- I have the same issues as everyone else, immediate crash when trying to load up the CSS from "Brawl" or "Training" (Adventure mode does work though). Seems to be a problem with your pack since every other pack works just fine using the same methods that everyone uses. My Dolphin has SDHC support, properly loads the mods with Gecko the usual way, card is all fine, and if there is anything 'special' that needs to be done further than the standard way of loading a pack, that should be documented since it seems that a lot of people can get this pack working (both here and from looking at Youtube comments). I tried out a few older versions, and while I have no idea what order they came out in because the naming is all over the place...Sonic and Pokemon M Super+ did NOT work and gave me the same issues, but regular Sonic and Pokemon M Super (without the +) did work (all though the game itself still shows the '+' in the title screen, it is definitely a different version that I could get working). I've never encountered this glitch before so I don't know how to fix it, but this isn't a "standard" glitch and it isn't just one or two people having it. I would like to see your pack work because you have worked hard on it, if you need any help troubleshooting feel free to ask for some help.

Sure, I could use some help fixing the CSS issue. I actually change the name every time there's a big change in the game engine. When I changed it from M Super to M Super+ I stopped using the CSS code and started using the CSSRoster.dat instead as it didn't cap me at 50 CSS slots.

I've updated PokeZonic to be compatible with the hackless method. I've also added version numbers to each of the mod packs.

You'll need to use a 4GB SDHC card, but if you want to use a 2GB SD card than use BrawlBuilder to patch the music in then just delete the "Sound" folder in "SD root/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/[Sound]". If you're playing on a Wii than you'll have to play with vBrawl music. You can also delete the "adventure" folder in "SD root/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/melee/[adventure]" to make even more room, but the custom stages in Adventure Mode will be gone.

The same way you would do it on a 2GB SD card. Delete all custom stages you have than boot up vBrawl and go to the custom stage menu and the game should freak out and launch Gecko.

I troubleshooted a bit...but can't really do much since I don't know exactly how your pack works (similar to Smash2's structure but not quite...). I found that removing the sc_selcharacter.pac file makes the game work (but without any clone characters obviously since BrawlEx needs one), but I'm pretty sure it's this file that's causing the problem (which it usually is when it comes to issues like this). The file isn't even close to being passed the filesize limit, if anything it's really tiny. If there's a corrupted image somewhere in there, even if it's just one image out of the many in there, the game will freeze. Otherwise, I don't really know what is causing it, or why you haven't had the same issues unfortunately. It'll be impossible for you to fix if you can't replicate the bug yourself.

yeah its true. when i deleted the sc_selcharacter.pac I was able to open the brawl css before it crashed. This probably means that one or some of your clone characters, probably the one or ones that are not on brawl vault, are corrupted.

Title: Re: Official Sonic Pokemon Z Bugs and Issues Thread
Post by: catscatscats99 on February 23, 2018, 06:30:23 PM
I got it working.
This version of Dolphin has to be used: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/84ecc0ecc9cf9acf355dbfbd7b15032ffffaa9eb/
I had to turn Panic Handlers off.

Also when the game starts up (at least for me), all buttons map to 'A'. It's because a default control scheme named '1' is set, which for some reason causes this. You need to add a new name entry and change to that in order to play normally.

I unfortunately don't have a Wii to test on right now. Black Kuyrem in theory should be getting the same issues you have been on Wii, since unlike Dolphin there isn't really much potential variance...is your card definitely SDHC, or is it SDXC? The extension code only works for SDHC. Otherwise I'm not sure why it won't work on Wii.

The file responsible for the extra characters is CSSRoster.dat in root/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/BrawlEx/

I have a gaming computer running dolphin that has successfully run Project M, Project M EX, and Project M infinite. I can switch between these pretty easily by having several virtual SD cards.

I have tried to run Sonic Pokemon Z, after packing the files in a 4GB SD card and selecting the right boot.elf, I load into the custom elf splash screen. Upon Selecting "Launch Game" I'm shown the prompt that SD codes were found and are being applied. As brawl loads there is a short message saying loading vault, then generic unmodded brawl starts.

In Sonic Pokemon M Super +, I use a 2GB sd card, the rest is the same, but upon leaving the custom boot.elf screen, it freezes on a black screen with no game loading.

Sonic Pokemon M Super+ Advanced has the same process as Sonic Pokemon Z.

I'd like to get the newest one working, but will take any of the builds. Can you list in chronological order the versions of the mod that exist and a short bit on what's in them? It's kind of hard to tell and I can't find previews of character select screens for them.

Also I'm pretty active and mess around with SD cards a lot, feel free to use me as a guinea pig in testing stuff. This mod looks awesome and I look forward to hearing back from ya'll!

The official version numbers are as follows:
v3.0.5 Sonic & Pokemon X
v3.7.4 Sonic & Pokemon M
v3.8.0 Sonic & Pokemon MX
v4.3.8 Sonic & Pokemon M Super
v5.0.0 Sonic & Pokemon M Super+
v5.1.0 Sonic & Pokemon M Super+ Advanced
v6.6.1 Sonic Pokemon Z (PokeZonic)

Be sure to run the newest version of Dolphin with PokeZonic and M Super+ Advanced as those are the 4GB SD card versions.

I've tried to replicate these problems myself only to no avail. I never seem to encounter it :/

It occurs to me that you may have to use the Project M Launcher for the game to properly recognize the SDHC code!

ok I will try that

still crashes. That proably means that when you built the CSS for the current version of Sonic and Pokemon something went wrong.

Then try setting the hooktype to "VBI" in Gecko and see if that helps.

Yeah, I'm not sure why this happens for other users, but not for me. Can you give me more specifics, so as to offer you my best advice? I've only tested the mod a select few times on the Wii and never had a chance to test the Wii U. What characters did you use in the 2 matches where it didn't crash?

The freezing at the start of matches is caused by Gecko OS and not the mod itself. I'm not familiar enough with Gecko OS enough to fix this. The rate of pre-battle crashes varies depending on the platform and system version.

Hi. It’s been a while since I have posted on here. I have tried your newest version of your modpack and This one actually lets me get to the CSS. The main problem I’m having with this version it that everytime I enter a match it crashes! Both using an emulator to run it and running it  on my Wii U. That farthest I have gotten is using gyrados and the game loading his intro animation before crashing when the next character is starting their intro animation. Is there any characters and or stages you recommend me trying to use? Or is there anything you recommend me trying to do sd card or emulator wise? I know I did set it up correctly on my sd card and I did turn off panic handlers on dolphin before u ask.

I don't think the mod will work on the Wii U, it functions differently than Dolphin or a Wii. Have you made sure that you have the newest version of Dolphin? Be sure to follow the guide here for setting it up on Dolphin: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=75863.0 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=75863.0)

What platform are you running it on?
What type of SD card are you using?
What's the capacity of the SD card?
Are you using Riivolution? This mod only works with Gecko OS.

The PM Launcher could be causing the issue. Try launching it with Gecko OS or Minamalauncher.

Try using an earlier version of PokeZonic. The new BrawlEx engine may have issues with the Wii/Wii U.

Hello, Black Kyrum, I thought I could receive some help with my issue of playing your mod.

Firstly; I've always been using SDHC for the two separate times I've used your mod in two separate years. I've used the required amount (2GB & now 4GB & 8GB) and I've tried to run the game on both the GeckoOS launcher with your custom MLP title screen. It always displays: "No Codes Loaded" for a split second and load up Vanilla Brawl. It crashes on the CSS (Vanilla one)

Secondly; I've tried the Project M launcher and it just sends me back to my Wii main menu (if it has more issues that Gecko, then why have it there?) I then messed with some force load settings on the GeckoOS launcher, but to no avail.

Thirdly; I'm now attempting a Flash Drive USB (which I have other unrelated issues with due to it being... fickle, it's not anyone's fault except for the manufacture's) and your custom MLP menu didn't even load; it was the standard Gecko launcher which booted up Vanilla Brawl again!

So, I just want a solution from you, because I've always wanted to play this mod with my friends and family.
I've tried contacting you on YouTube @Jessie Basham, but probably my overly critical self was sooo focused on... critique of a stranger's work. I'm telling you this because I apologize for my actions.

You can't use MinimaLauncher with it. I've tried it before with various launchers and it'll only load with Gecko OS.
