Title: Range of SD card sizes to use? Do SDHC cards have better performance? [Solved]
Post by: Direact_N1 on January 28, 2018, 02:51:07 PM
I've been away from Brawl mods a bit too long and I'm having real difficulty remembering which is the range of GB sizes I can use to load Brawl mods. 2GB to 16GB or something like that? My SD cards broke and then I managed to lose them, but I'm going to get more despite how hard it is to come by 2GB cards. What is the maximum size again?

Also, should I make sure to get SDHC cards in this size range, or try to find non-SDHC cards, which would be "better" to use? Planning to use Homebrew as usual to load mods, I have Gecko, Riivoloution, and PM launcher, but I don't know which of the 3 to solely use for the widest amount of compatibility with mods.

Unless I'm mistaken, compatibility is as follows:

2 GB or Less - Non-SDHC
More than 2 GB and Up to 32 GB - SDHC (Gecko Code REQUIRED for SDHC)

Do they even make 2 GB SDHC Cards, or Non-SDHC cards that are larger in size? I don't even think they do, except for possibly 4 GB, and even that, I dunno if they make 'em for that; also, this guy (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?action=profile;u=45430) sent me some information about the code, so I would highly recommend contacting him for more info on it

So the Gecko Code is not the File Patch Code or anything similar? It's also not included in Gecko already?

If not, do I just contact him to actually get the code?

Nope, it's not the same as the File Patch Code; the File Patch Code says to "replace" the data on the CD with what's on the SD card, and to use an SDHC card, you would edit the .gct file and add the code for making the Wii think that the SDHC is an SD; and yeah, he sent me the code, but I'm just too lazy to look it up, since he sent me a full pdf explaining how to use it with a more complicated thing that wasn't just relating to SDHC; there's also Google, if you're impatient and really good at searching :P

Think I can do that. Until the .gct editing part, I still need a little help with that whole process and using Ocarina and such.

I'll get a SDHC SD later today and try it on PM or Smash 2, which I think come with a form of SDHC compatibility code.

Solved, ran into the "normal Brawl loads" issue but I just used the PM launcher. Using a 16 GB SDHC card, thanks so much for the help.
