1  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: SDo0m's Dark Void: Progress is s-s-slow on: August 17, 2011, 04:45:15 AM
Since the demo, they made a morphing Dracula Castle and completely revamped Norfair. They are still being worked on but already very good, you can see them on the official P:M channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/ProjectMelee#g/u
Yagi also uploads interesting games every week : http://www.youtube.com/user/jyagis#g/u

@SDoom : this looks amazing, definitely better than what they're replacing. I'm glad to know that the PMBR is concerned with making P:M look even better than Brawl Wink
I won't ask more because I know the policy regarding experimental changes, but is someone working on polishing Lucario ? His USmash and Nair look somewhat clunky, and not yet up to par with Charizard's Fair, for exemple.

Here's a MK vs Luigi game from a month ago, with some nice KOs :
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZgqh0j1_fw" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZgqh0j1_fw</a>

Everything is still subject to change, but at around the time this vid was posted, the most visible changes were that :
- he's a fastfaller
- his grounded moves no longer have transcendent priority
- his Up B goes directly into special fall
- his cape seems buffed (faster and more range)
- his moves sweetspot at the middle of the blade

Considering how good he was in Brawl, he only needs to be adapted to the P:M environment, so he probably won't get massive overhauls like Wario, Zard or Lucario.

Nice, I already saw his buffed counter, but this new special is so much better ! Cancel to air dash to Hurricane kick should be a beastly finisher. I assume you can only use it once in the air ?

And yeah, I saw you were already used to Shuffling, but it can take quite some time to adopt a much more offensive playstyle and learn to edgeguard. Getting destroyed by my friend's Falcon every time I let the pressure down helped me quite a bit, though... Survival instinct :p
4  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: SDo0m's Dark Void: ACCEPTED TO THE PROJECT M TEAM =D + Back from camp XD on: August 08, 2011, 07:59:40 AM
Congratulations!
It's quite a feat to get accepted in the PMBR while explicitly stating you're not interested in competitive play, ad when they were only looking for playtesters and ASM coders. I bet your Vjoe and Spiderman really impressed them Wink

Nice job on Sonic's run animation, but I couldn't find Lucario's new Down B in the video... I don't doubt that it's much better than the stupid old one, though. Does it have a Super version yet ? I saw a stronger version of his Side B in the latest vids, but no sign of a super counter... Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu would be hilariously awesome.

BTW, I couldn't help noticing that you roll a lot, but you should get rid of that habit, as rolling is extremely punishable in P:M... Before P:M, rolling used to be my primary way of moving, but then getting Knee'd every single time quickly taught me better. You want to wavedash, run or dashdance, unless you absolutely need invincibility frames.

Hi, I'm just dropping by to say I found out how to modify the respawn time of the blocks in Breakable Ganon's Tower : it had nothing to do with STDT but the animation you used in ModelData[4].
6  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Your Favourite Brawl Codeset on: May 29, 2011, 03:20:37 PM
Project M without a doubt. While Braw- is a great mod, I never got back to anything else after trying P:M. I have never played Melee, so I approached it as a completely new game design, and I think everyone should do so. And by "trying", I mean not only installing it and play a few games as if it was Brawl, but also learn the few basic skills you need to really understand the game (and which are really easy with some buffer on). Here's what I like most about it :

New pace. It's fast. Really fast. Really, really fast. Not only do you notice at first the increased gravity and movement speed, but shuffling really puts this game's speed up to another level. Even Ganon becomes faster than most Brawl characters with this (easy) technique.

Limitless liberty of movement. Everything you can imagine can be done. In ANY phase of running, you can instantly crouch-cancel into any ground move, shuffle any aerial, or wavedash backward for a quick dodge and counter-attack. Wavelanding let you move between platform in a split second. Plus, moonwalking looks cool Wink

Insane combos. Without Brawl's hitstun canceling and nearly nonpunishable air dodge, combos become possible, but they always need prediction and Di to both be landed and escaped. Nothing is more satisfying than successfully comboing into Falcon's Knee, Jigg's Rest, or Ganon's fair from stomp. Except a moonwalked Reverse Sacred Combo, obviously. To anyone not getting what level of insanity I'm talking about, see this from 1:20 (before he's just showing off and boasting, whatever) :
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwDHs6UXgR8" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwDHs6UXgR8</a>

Balance. Yes, the demo only has 14 characters, but I must say they're not only perfectly balanced for 1 vs 1, but FFA is also reasonably balanced, with no OP character. Even Fox is very good against non-heavy characters and Sheik, well, gets to use her Down B. Some characters' ridiculous FFA potency really bugged me out in Brawl-, even though theyre were all balanced in 1 vs 1 (come on, Snake's tilted FSmash, Bowser's armor, Ike's counter and, well, Ganon being Ganon?). Snake might be a little underwhelming, but that's it.

Quote
On the other hand, I really dislike how they are recloning characters to back how they were in Melee.  One of the things that Brawl undeniably succeeded in over Melee was decloning characters to make them feel different.

While I see where you're coming from, the only character that suffered recloning is Falco, and for good reasons. The announced goal is to have 40 top tier characters, and the best way to achieve this is to use Melee top tiers as references. P:M Falco's shine basically defines it, and honestly, after playing with both characters, their resemblances are only aesthetics, as they play completely differently. For exemple, Fox is all about verrtical kills and horizontal gimps, while Falco does horizontal kills and vertical spikes. Fox's shine is an amazing horizontal spike for gimping recovery and links into any ground move, while Falco's is both a shield pressurer and a lifter that link into killing aerials. Yeah, sure, they also reflect projectiles, but that's not even remotely close to their primary use.

About other clones, Dr. Mario isn't coming back (even with clone engine), so P:M Mario is a mix of both, Ganon kept all of his Brawl moves and Lucas got even further differentiation from Ness in a new Neutral B. BTW, Lucas is the only character other than Snake they might consider buffing, so it's definitely far from overpowered... Young Link was low tier so they will probably give him new toys. As for Lucario, according to the latest streams, he's now made of pure awesomeness (seriously, check it out) and has no relation whatsoever with Mewtwo, so that's not gonna be an issue when the clone engine is done.
7  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Stages / Re: Mewtwo2000's [New stager tool and Facility revamp tomorrow in blog!] (16 may 11) on: May 22, 2011, 10:08:27 AM
Wow, that new facility does look good, even though I liked the platform.

About your Breakable Ganon's Tower stage, would you mind telling me how to prevent the floor tiles from respawning or make it take more time ? I couldn't find anything that looke like it in BrawlBox.
8  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Dantarion's done it again! on: April 14, 2011, 11:57:02 AM
Wow, that's amazing ! According to the blog post, this will let us use 4 additional slots, which should be more than enough. Additional Dr.Mario costumes does make sense, since Mario and Doc have been merged in project M. Does anyone knows if he got around file limitations, as Project M officially supports Gecko ?

(Dantarion said somewhere he planned to port Project:M on PAL after he's done with the NTSC-U version, so this code is very likely to be ported as well. Also, there's no need for a specific hack to play NTSC-U discs, Riivolution and Gecko OS are both region-free, even using StackSmash on an unmodded wii)

9  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: KingJigglypuff's PSA Ideas Topic-Which Character Should I Do Next? on: April 13, 2011, 04:48:51 AM
So you're not :p
Smogon is, well, the smashboards of competitive pokemon, mostly played on an online simulator with a ranking ladder. The current number 2 player (which is really an achievement) is named "kinglypuff" so I figured it might be you.

Dimentio is here, btw : http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=16604
10  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: KingJigglypuff's PSA Ideas Topic-Which Character Should I Do Next? on: April 13, 2011, 04:16:38 AM
I tried it and it's neat, good job, although he's not my kind of smash character (never liked lucario or mewtwo).

Off-topic : Are you kinglypuff, number two on smogon's ladder?
11  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: SDo0m's Dark Void: Viewtiful Joe V2 BETA RELEASED+Beyond's Moveset Added! on: April 10, 2011, 12:06:54 PM
Yay, I never played this game, but this looks really good. I especially love your idea of implementing stances, which lets the user switch quickly between them (unlike Zelda). It could be nice if some moves had built-in , Soulcalibur-like stance change. For example, if you press B during Low Stance UTilt, Travis will transition into High Stance as the move ends.
12  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: SDo0m's Dark Void: Viewtiful Joe V2 BETA RELEASED and FIXED+Video Added on: April 09, 2011, 10:40:55 AM
like that generally means I'm doing a good job right?

Exactly, and I actually edited my post while you were typing Wink

About Up B, I think it would feel much better with some maneuverability during the punch (just like CF doesn't have to follow a straight path with its Up B, and you already did it for Cloud) and a wider window for inputing the second punch so that you can delay it (and for example move a little bit backward during said delay). It also needs some upward momentum as the move ends, so that it's easier to recover from right below the ledge. During my testing, I often got stuck below Final Destination...
13  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Attacks and Animations / Re: SDo0m's Dark Void: Viewtiful Joe V2 BETA RELEASED and FIXED+Video Added on: April 09, 2011, 09:32:59 AM
So, I did some more experimentation for God Hand and it's pretty promising :
* Whenever CF uses its Up B, the enemy will execute whatever's written in Subaction 19C (SpecialHiCapture).
* In Subaction 6C, changing the action parameter of catch collisions from 3D to CF ( Awesome Face ) will force the opponent to execute 19C as soon as it is normal-grabbed.
* Modifying Falco's grab the exact same way freeze the game. Looks like only the captain can use 0X000000CF awesomeness.
* Ganon can do the same : action E8 triggers Subaction 1AF (GanonSpecialHiCapture).
* Copypasting code from the Catch Subaction into AttackLw3 doesn't do anything  Tongue

I also tried your last upload and everything works fine, so i guess it's feedback time :
* Air Joe should be Neutral B and Red Hot Kick should be Down B, it currently fells like they were mixed up.
* Air Joe should have less hit lag, it's weird to see it combo fast in the air but so much slower when you're actually hitting something. I know about SDI but it's not like it's inescapable without it (it connects badly against even Training Mode, non-attacking CPUs)
* Shocking Pink Bomb's animation needs some tweaking. Yeah, more easily said than done as I know bouncing is hard to animate Undecided  Other than that, it's pretty awesome.
* Dair looks like one of those high risk, high reward move but it's currently unusable off the stage as it's very hard to recover from it and has little kill potential. It could for example spike at the very beginning of the animation, drag the opponent down a little otherwise and be cancelable earlier.
*Up B feels kinda... rigid ? Maybe add some maneuverability, upward momentum at the end and widen the window for inputing a second punch ?
* What I like about your work is that you don't overuse GFX as many do and your characters blend with the original cast. However, I feel some of Joe's moves are too much graphic-heavy. It's bomb's explosion is a little too big and doesn't fit its hitbox, it's Dair is much too flashy (I guess wind is fine but it should be much smaller), as well as its Up B, but that might be because you had to switch them in order to prevent freezing.
* Oh, and yeah, it's so obviously made of pure awesomeviewtifulness that I won't comment it to prevent this thread from asploding.

For example here, with the instructions to launch a homberew. Then, just follow any 4.3E hacking tutorial, it's easy and completely safe with BootMii, especially since you can backup the NAND. It should be easy to google, I just used the first (french) result.

However, I can't guarantee that PSA hacks are region-free, does anyone knows ? I can't say cause my Brawl DVD is NTSC (Wii Region doesn't matter).

I was actually gonna use that one, but it's over Skyworld and I already have a replacement for Skyworld.  Unless I can somehow get .rels for Skyworld then I probably won't use it Undecided

If you feel like you don't have enough stages, just download the Classic Expansion Pack, it comes with 36 extra stages, most of them being great, and you can very easily replace the few crappy ones with whatever you wish.

About Joe's God Hand, I don't have time to experiment more right now, but I have a slight "idea" of how to only slow down the  hit opponent. I can think of two options that might lead to this result :
* Catch collisions can force the opponent to execute any action. It probably won't lead to anything useful as there's no "slowed down action", but still, you know much more about PSA than I do...
* Thrown subactions can definitely slow down the opponent, but the tricky part is to trigger them with a special. The 76-79 are already used for standard throws, but someone might know what the other ones are used for or how to trigger them. God hand could also auto-chain to forward throw, but I don't think PSAs have access to any kind of global variables... Maybe make it inflicts some status to the opponent before F-Throwing him, so that ThrownF can check for this status then remove it and slow down time ?

The Down Air does freezes for me (but Shocking Pink doesn't, at least on ground). Other neutrals/smashes worked, but some special (probably side froze and I didn't test the other ones.
Why can't you hack your wii ? If it's because of an up-to-date firmware, Smash Stack has recently been ported to PAL.
