1  Help & Tutorials / Help / Re: One simple question. Beyond's Riivo for Gecko Users. on: January 13, 2012, 01:23:39 AM
It should work, I use Beyond's Riivolution and have a custom Common3 for a chaos emerald smash ball. Perhaps the file you are using isn't formatted correctly or even corrupt? Have you tested it with other item files?

What directory are you placing common5 in? If you're PAL file patch sometimes can be a bit buggy. Are you naming common5 with or without the _en? Have you tried comparing the original common5 with yours to see if you have all the right files replaced with what you have. You might also try a fresh common5 and just replace the stock icon files to see if that does anything when you boot up your system. Sadly, trial and error is the name of the game when working with this kind of stuff.

On a side note: which directory does info.pac go? I've heard many different answers, from sound folders to info folders.

That's strange, is everything in the correct format and dimensions? Because when I replaced the icons they showed up perfectly for Shadow the Hedgehog. Are you using Gecko or Riivo? What xml and directories are you using? I might not be able to help you but if you provide this info it might help someone else  in aiding you. In response to the battle names, what files need replacing in order for custom names to show up in game next to the battle portraits? Is it an archive inside info.pac, common5.pac, common3.pac or something else entirely? What is the name of the file that needs replacing? Lastly, (hopefully) where does the .pac file need to placed in a ssbb.xml for riivolution? (If it is a .pac file.) Sorry for asking a question in response to a question, sort of feeling guilty for indirectly getting a response to my question.

I believe it's under sc_selmap_en.pac in common_5.pac under miscdata[40]. Were you able to replace the names of characters in game? I'm trying to do it and it's bugging the crap out of me.
6  Help & Tutorials / Help / How to get custom battle names to show up in game? on: January 01, 2012, 03:29:06 AM
I've been tinkering with the common5_en.pac and info_en.pac files to display names for Shadow and Knuckles according to the files provided with the folders for True Knuckles and Shadow I've downloaded here at the brawl vault. I've replaced all the according files, I think, and DK's and Pikachu's names still show up on the results screen and in game. Any reason why they aren't showing up? Could someone point me to a tutorial on how to modify these names and what directories and files to put them in?

Problem solved!  Happy Face Apparently one needs to name the common5.pac file common5_en.pac for Riivolution, even if you are using SSBB.xml, which requires you to omit that suffix from every other file. Go figure. It also only worked when I took out sc_selcharacter.pac.

File directories for Riivolution solely depend on your .xml file. If you're using File Patch code for your .xml then you are using the correct directories, (sort of, more on that later) but if you are using something like modlauncher.xml then you need to completely overhaul your SD card directories. Here's a helpful link that will answer directory questions for modlauncher.xml users: http://allisbrawl.com/forum/topic.aspx?id=144811 Anyways, you're supposed to export the sc_selcharacter_en.pac (the _en is omitted if you are using Filepatch.xml) from the common5_en.pac after you work on it and place it in private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/menu2. I think the info.pac files are used for the in battle name for your character. I could be wrong though. I don't know if this is right either but I think it's spelled portrite. Hope this helps!

Yeah, I downloaded the new .xml file and this one gave me the option to enable a custom common5_en.pac for main menu screens but nothing for CSS. It's a step in the right direction because I didn't have that option before but I don't know why Riivolution isn't giving me the option to enable custom sc_selcharacter_en.pac files. It's all rather frustrating. It still freezes as soon as I select Brawl in the menus and gives me a loud whining noise. So I'm at a . As for the .brsar files I know how to modify them, I just think I went overboard in file size so I'm just going to do it from scratch. By the way, does anyone know the exact offsets for all of DK's soundbytes so I can replace them with Shadow's SFX pack? Thanks for the help though, SGVenom. I hope I can get this Custom CSS up and running soon enough but I definitely need some guidance as to why the sc_selcharacter_en.pac is freezing my system. Am I putting them in the wrong directory for this specific xml?

Edit: I'm using Midnite's guide to Riivolution to place the files. How do I differentiate a mod and a texture? Would a custom sc_selcharacter_en.pac be considered a texture or a mod? A custom common5_en.pac? I'm considering using the filepatch.xml just to clear things up a bit and get rid of modlauncher.xml.

Edit: Used ssbb.xml and it doesn't freeze up on me anymore. CSP's still don't show up on the CSS but portraits do show up on results screen and in game so I am making leaps and bounds in terms of progress. I'll keep updating my progress.

So that's the directory for modlauncher.xml 2.5? Alright, thanks I'll try it out.

I also am having trouble with the smash_sound.brsar file. After putting the sfx packs for True Shadow and Knuckles into the code via HxD I am not able to boot up Brawl through Riivolution anymore. The Wii screen just goes black after pressing launch. Did I go over the file size limit or am I missing something? When I had just the Knuckles SFX pack in my .brsar file it worked just fine when it was in the directory brawlmods>music. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Or perhaps the SFX pack for Shadow is corrupt?

Edit: Alright I tried the suggested directory and it didn't show up at all.  Undecided Brawl booted up fine but no custom CSS. I'm not using brawl + or - at the moment so I don't think I would need a directory labeled classic as I'm using the original brawl with just added textures and PSA characters. So I think the directory I was using before is apt for my situation, but I think there is some other monkey wrench in the works. Perhaps it's my SD card? I just formatted it yesterday though. I also just reinstalled Riivolution to see if that would help. It did not. Any help would be much appreciated.
11  Help & Tutorials / Help / Custom CSS Freezing Brawl on: December 30, 2011, 01:12:33 AM
Alright I'm using Riivolution and placing a sc_selcharacter_en.pac file modified first in BrawlBox then in CSS Organizer 2.0 in the folder brawlmods>textures>menu2 and a common5_en.pac file in the folder brawlmods>textures>menu2>system. Whenever Brawl boots up and I go to the CSS screen the Wii freezes and a loud sound from my Wii starts happening. If I take the sc_selcharacter_en.pac file out of the folder then the custom CSS isn't loaded and it's just normal. All that I modified in BrawlBox was CSP's for DK and Pikachu and replaced them with photos from the True Shadow and Knuckles packs. If someone can tell me what exactly I'm doing wrong that would be a big help. Note: got the common5_en.pac file from the True Knuckles pack by Law-Law and have no codes running at the moment on my SD. Oh shi~

Edit: I've tried using a clean common5 file and manually replacing a couple of cps's with some knuckles and shadow pics and the game still freezes when trying to go to the CSS screen. So CSS Organizer isn't corrupting the files in any way. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Am I supposed to have some codes or something that fixes this? Or am I placing them in the wrong directory with Riivolution? I have modlauncher.xml v2.5.

Well thanks anyways.  Smiley
Anyone else know how to do the complete setup for True Knuckles or point me in the right direction to a tutorial?
14  Help & Tutorials / Help / Hey, having problems with extracting Shadow Final Version. on: December 22, 2011, 01:35:18 AM
Hi, I'm new in these forums and I just set up my account because I've been incredibly frustrated with setting up the Shadow Final Version by Mastaklo. Apparently the download is corrupted or incomplete because every time I try and extract it most things are excluded from the folder, even the tutorial video and my extracting program notifies me that it is corrupted after extracting. It also seems as though the link is dead for the File Patch XML for Riivolution. Some guidance would be much appreciated!

Edit: You know what? I just need help with the entire process. I've softmodded the wii, installed gecko os, hbc, riivolution, ocarina code manager, and created the appropriate folders on my SD card for loading hacks such as the codes for my specific region and creating folders for different fighters. I'm just overwhelmed with the wealth of tasks one must do to get the PSA hack True Knuckles and having been searching the web for hours in a vain effort in trying to find an apt tutorial for doing all the  PSA things such as Brawl Box, CSS application, and HxD. I truly need a person who is knowledgeable on the subject  to walk me through this. I'm just dumbfounded right now and staring at a normal and bland brawl match.
