Does it only freeze with your MKWii/SSBB? Try a different disc(borrow it from a friend.. etc.)
If it works with a different disk, you may have to buy a new one

An upgrade deletes all cIOS that are needed to play games from USB. did you re-install the cIOS ?

i don't think so, but you can convert them from RGB to index.
