1  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Model Imports / Re: Can I import characters from this Wii ISO? Please respond! I need help! on: September 11, 2013, 11:12:03 PM
You don't rip the model directly from the iso, rather you figure out how to run the game with Dolphin and then use 3D Ripper DX (as stated before.)

Yeah, some files aren't used. Fitmario01 is a good example.

FitXX01, FitXX02, and FitXX03 are used for the team battle mode, where 01 is Red, etc. Since some of the characters main colors are Red, Blue, or Green, Brawl is coded to use FitXX00 instead of 01, 02, or 03 if that makes sense.

So for the Mario example... Since Mario's initial clothes are already red, when selecting to be Mario on the Red Team, instead of using FitMario01 Brawl is coded to use FitMario00.

If you install cBliss, you'll be able to use whatever hacks you put under these skipped files.

I decided to play around with some of the textures of my medic before I went and rigged it. Here's the result:

What do you guys think? I don't know how I feel about the red section... do you think I should make that grey too?

I'm also considering redoing the textures according to this: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73559, but that would be later on if I decide to do it.

@bluenote: Tips for rigging a character. Start rigging everything to HipN, and move from there to child bones, it helps to avoid unwanted weights. Also, you are riging a robot, this makes it much easier since you can use 1.0 weights or "singlebinds". Make sure joints are lined up, since robot joints (if single bound) are noticeable when unaligned. The cape like thingy could be done with skin wrap. And good luck.

Thanks, this helps me a lot actually!
I did my best to line up the joints beforehand,  they should be pretty good where they are now.
The "cape like thingy" is the bottom of his lab coat; I don't quite understand what you mean by "could be done with skin wrap." Isn't the skin wrap applied to the entire model?

Ok, that maybe off topic, feel free to message me if you want though.

Also good luck on the Medic, bluenote, looks difficult but don't let that worry you. Who is he over?

...the only brawl character that has an arm cannon. X)

Updated progress on my Medic:

I'm finally to the point where I can start rigging. This will be my first full body rig, so if you have tips let me know!
7  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Site Suggestion: Tutorial/FAQ Wiki site on: August 24, 2013, 07:00:45 PM
That defeats the purpose of it being a wiki and is actually more limited than what we have here on the forum, where anyone can post a tutorial.

The wiki would be more for ease of access/quick reference source/source of essential information (if that makes sense.)

As for tutorial posting, consider this situation:
User X could post a tutorial on the forum about making realistic textures in Paint.net. Moderators Y and Z read it and deem it as "essential/very helpful" and post the tutorial on the wiki.
The advantage of the tutorial being on the wiki would be that other pages link to it... let's say Noob A is reading the page "Texture Hacking 101" and is directed to the new tutorial.

As for the wiki lacking traffic, you could make a rule that says new hacks/modders should consult the wiki before posting a help question on the forum, only posting a question if they can't find the answer on the wiki.
8  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Site Suggestion: Tutorial/FAQ Wiki site on: August 22, 2013, 07:19:20 PM
Sorry about posting in the wrong place then.

How were they abusing it? Did it just get attacked by trolls?
What you could do is allow the wiki to be edited by certain people only, that is administrators/moderators/really good hackers who have already contributed a lot of work to the vault. That could significantly reduce the amount of abuse on it.

Ok, I've said what I wanted to say. Feel free to lock this or whatever if you think the thread is out of place.

I'm assuming that you're not using cBliss then?

My first guess is you're having the same problem as this guy did:

10  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Site Suggestion: Tutorial/FAQ Wiki site on: August 21, 2013, 10:26:05 PM
So I've started making my own hacks for Brawl since the beginning of July now, and one thing I did notice is you guys have tons of helpful tutorials and such on this forum. Saying that another thing I did notice is that it can be difficult at times to find the information/guides that you may need, especially if you are an inexperienced hacker (like me.) Yes I know the site has a search function, but that's not always helpful, especially if you don't know exactly what to search for (terminology-wise, if that makes any sense.)

So here's my proposition: KC:MM Hacking Wiki. What it possibly could contain is:
- The tutorials from the forum, reorganized to make finding what you need easier (or links to the tutorials at the bare minimum)
- A terminology page; this would go over basic definitions and purposes of various brawl, modeling, et al terms. For example, instead of repeatedly getting questions about common5.pac or MiscData[80] or whatnot, a definition page could clearly explain what each thing was and/or what it does.
- a FAQ page; Instead of repeatedly getting questions like "My Samus hack froze when I did the final smash! How do I fix this?!?!?!," a FAQ could guide a noob to the correct tutorial without the need for them to post on the help forums.

Essentially what the wiki would accomplish is organization, which could really improve the Kitty Corp forum as a whole. What do you guys think?
11  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Classic Exp. Pack 5.4 (Brawl) and 5.4m (P:M) versions are out on: August 21, 2013, 09:12:00 PM
I understand perfectly well people have lives outside of this- I tell that to people in other communities. But THIS should have been investigated already and we have countless other members on this forum. I surely can't be the only one experiencing this problem. I managed to find the brawl+ files BUT I still have the black screen problem even with them installed.

All I'm asking is for the matter to be investigated and the tools to be updated accordingly. I absolutely HATE having to start my Wii up several times while playing with my friends- this sort of bug is absolutely annoying and needs to be looked into ASAP. I'm positive I'm not the only one with this problem.

So when I initially tried installing the 5.3 pack for Brawl+, it initially didn't work for me either... the physics/gameplay was set back to vBrawl along with the CSS. Libertyernie looked at it and found that the problem was with my RSBE01.gct file. So if he hasn't updated the pack's installer for Brawl+ yet, then that might be the issue.

This is my 2nd import/vertex hack, and the first one that i'll be trying to apply a full body rig to once I get to that point.

On another note- how can I use the default Brawl+ CSS with this pack?

He implemented a Brawl+ installation for this, which uses the defult Brawl+ CSS.

Just get rid of STGDXSHRINE.pac and st_dxshrine.rel. I don't have those files on my end, as far as I can tell

I just checked the files of the normal Brawl+ files, and the Jungle models were in STGDXSHRINE.pac for that one too, so that's why it's like that. You might want to make a not of that in your Brawl+ installation instructions for the expansion pack.

Upon looking at the original Brawl+ stage files, there are two other custom stages, STGCUSTOM1.pac looks like another copy of The Jungle, while I can't open STGCUSTOM2.pac in the model viewer (I get an "unhandled exception has occurred in your application"... something about the Index being out of range.) I know it's a variant of The Temple from looking at the texture files, but Brawl+ had two versions of the Temple from what I could remember, the complete stage and a smaller version that used only half the stage. The only think that's confusing me is how I was able to play two different versions of The Temple while there was only one .pac with temple files...

I do, but when I opened the file in Brawl Box, it had the models for the Jungle in it apparently, I really don't know why

Actually, I just found another error, for some reason the Temple was replaced with another copy of the Jungle. The music that plays is still from the Temple though.
