Hm... Alright, I might be able to try and solve this.
First of all, did you do all the UI correctly? Try setting the EX character's cosmetic ID to an already-existing character's like Mario's and seeing if the issue persists.
If that doesn't work, make sure your EX character has a .rel, and that your .rel was properly edited to work with the character's ID.
I'm not trying to add more slots to bypass the 5 stage/character cap on each folder by adding more slots, I am actually trying to replace empty slots with characters.
So, my process is I copy another character's data over to an empty slot, then I change the character ID to my new one. This works for replacing four empty slots, but replacing a fifth empty slot causes the issue. Yes, I've made SURE I copied over the difficulty data and settings, and checked twice for all characters. I can tell this isn't a character issue since changing the fifth replaced empty slot to a character that still works causes the crash still.
Great! If you need anything else, just ask and I'll see if I know how to do it. I don't know much about PM as I'm a vBrawl modder, but generally small tweaks like this are code-based. Albeit some tweaks PM makes don't really make sense to me, and I kind of agree with you on this one, why do this to the Blast Zones? It looks stupid IMO and I'm glad I could help you get the better mechanics back.
My idea for the main platform would be making a main collision tied to the central platform via bones, and then animate that platform to go under the stage. And then when you're ready for it to pick up the fighters, animate it to go back through the stage to the playable area.
Well I mean... Animations. like an example for their use is for porting characters not in Brawl, such as Young Link, or ones that are different like Marth's sharper looking throws. There's a definite use for them that has nothing to do with what you're saying.
...I can't really answer the question at hand though, since as far as I know there's still no way to port them, and all Melee-ish animations that do exist were recreated and not ported. Sorry.

Hey, so. I'm trying to add characters from my build to All-Star, but there's a rather large issue. Any time I add more than four characters to the mode, it crashes. No matter who they they are (even vBrawl) or what series they're spread across, upon trying to add a fifth character to All-Star mode, the game mode will stop working upon clearing the first stage. Instead of going to the resting area for the first time, it hangs on the clear screen.
Note this has nothing to do with the cap of 5 characters per group. This is adding characters to All-Star mode in general, as a whole.
I really need a way to fix this so any help is appreciated.
Title says it all. Other builds like PM, Infinite, etc all work but anything I make doesn't work at all unless I use 2GB. I'm not running PM if that helps, only vBrawl. I have the SDHC code, too. What confuses me the most is that it says my codes were loaded yet still loads vBrawl. Oh, and I read the post below, I'm not using PM launcher. I don't want to. I want to use the Gecko launcher.
Huh, strange. When I did the FPC update, it was still distorted. At the time, CSE was not applied as this build doesn't have custom music over new slots so I didn't need it. I'll try again, and also I'll attempt uploading sd.raw if it still does not work.

The second song, the Smash 4 menu theme, is over Menu 2 and so you can get a grasp of what happens when I play a song over CSE slots or replaced slots.
