We've been toying with the idea of developing a Homebrew App for BrawlVault, designed to let you browse and preview what's available, and then download it directly to your SD card.
But, of course, before we pull a Homebrew team together, we have to ask: "Would you use it?" -- If you would, feel free to suggest some ideas for it.
If there's a demand, we'll throw a team of geniuses together.
Keep in mind that this is still in the very early conceptual stages. We have no idea how capable the Wii is of doing the things we want to do. Our plan is to start ambitious and strike features if they end up impossible. ................... List of Basic Functionality - Browse hacks and see images - Upon downloading character, choose slot to replace - PAC and PCS are placed and named correctly - Upon downloading stage, it is placed and named correctly - Upon downloading brstm, choose stage, then track to replace
List of Advanced Functionality (future usage) - Upon choosing character, browse available CSPs - Upon choosing CSP, inject it into correct slot in common5 - Upon choosing stage, choose which stage to replace - Chosen stage hack is named and has the appropriate rel to replace target stage - Upon choosing stage, browse available SSPs and stage names - Chosen SSP and name are injected into common5 (in correct slot, especially important if targeted stage replacement is also implemented)
Leave these topics alone for now - Brawl+, Brawl-, etc. Implementation - SFX support - Items - After choosing brstm placement, offer option to change music title - Accept user text input for title and inject into info.pac and mu_menumain.pac
We've received a last minute renewal notice from our domain provider that states we are about to lose BrawlVault.net and BrawlVault.org.
By heading to http://kc-mm.com, you can help by donating even the smallest amount. A few people would resolve this immediately. We only need $40, and (as per usual) your donations will be reflected on the donations page located beneath our PayPal button on the right hand column of the site. (drop me a note of the amount and your screen name if you donate so I can add your name to the contributions!)
Our traffic has been incredible for over 2 years, an we solute you!
As much as I hate the word "project" in the title of threads, this is seriously going to end up being a project.
But hey, before I waste my time, I should throw out a sample clip, right? Let me know if having the almighty Mario as an announcer voice would be funtastic or not.
Sample Clip 1 - "Free For All, Mario, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Super Smash Brothers Brawl"
Some Feedback first before we get officially underway would be much appreciated. ^_^ None of the voiceover is final by any means. This is just to get a rounded idea of what we're working with.
Welcome to KCMM HD. This is where you'll post the files necessary for the KCMM Team to parse through in order for you to get your HD Video. If you're not certain what KCMM HD is yet, here's a recap of the blog post from the 22nd of June, 2011:
What is this?:
In a recent interview, regional president Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo of America
. To heck with that! We're going to get your replays in the resolution the wii games were originally developed are capable of; High Definition.
KCMM HD is the ability for users to aquire High Definition videos of Replays. The illustration below shows a quick example of how to utilize KCMM HD:
Downloading 'Savegame Manager' from the homebrew channel only has to be done once. Here's a download link for uTorrent 3.0. As for the forum link mentioned in step 4... you're here!
Note: For obvious reasons, if your creation is a menu, or something of a 'non-replay' nature, please mention that in your forum submission request. Please acknoledge that you will be lower on the tier list of priority, since it will require much more human interaction.
Tip #0: Please, please, PLEASE remember to have the replays stored ON THE WII instead of the SD card prior to extracting the gamesave. Otherwise, there wont be any replays for us to make your HD video out of!
Tip #1: Quick heads-up for people about to attempt utilizing this sweet feature: The files that Savegame Manager should give you look like this (exception is the nocopy folder):
Tip #2: Get the most out of your HD video by removing the Time Constraint from replay recordings:
Code:
Allow Replays Longer Than Three Minutes [brkirch] 040E5DE8 60000000 04953184 60000000 04953224 60000000
Infinite Replays 040EB804 60000000
Tags in replays [Y.S] 0404B140 38A00000
Tip #3: We design a fake SD Card file named SD.RAW in order to emulate the SD Card. When you submit your zipped/rarred file, please make sure the mods you want shown are in the same heirarchy of folders that you'd find on your SD card. (ie: /private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/fighter/) This means the archive you send us will have the files mentioned in tip #1, as well as a zip/rar file named 'private', with your mods inside.:
Tip #4: A few users on YouTube have requested that links to BrawlVault be placed in the comments, so that users can directly get to the downloads of what is presented in the HD replays. It's a great idea, and a simple .txt file within your .zip/.rar file that has that information would be to your own advantage if included.
After some tinkering and guesswork, I've managed to get BrawlBox (.63d) in a perfectly working state within Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. The images and menu are somewhat skewed, but besides that - everything works as it should.
Because the instructions are followable in OSX as well (not these instructions exactly, but OSX has WINE and Winetricks, which is required for this to work), I have reason to believe that this will allow users to run BrawlBox in OSX too.
---------
Here's the simple tutorial I've whipped up.
--------------
Getting BrawlBox working within Ubuntu (+ other Linux Distros / Mac OSX (unconfirmed))
Components Required WINE v1.1.42 (or higher) Winetricks • allfonts (instead of corefonts, tahoma, and liberation)?[or separately]: corefonts, tahoma, liberation • d3dx9 (helps) • ie6 (helps) • dotnet20 (install as windows version 2000) • dotnet30 (install as windows version xp)
---------------------------------------------------------- Step Three: Run Winetricks / Install Needed Components Install "allfonts" • Alt + F2 to open "Run Application" dialogue. • Type "sh winetricks" without the quotes. • Select allfonts (or corefonts, tahoma, and liberation separately) • Click ok, and Install.
Continue to install these one at a time in the order listed above. Refer to the images below for what settings WINE should have when installing dotnet20 and dotnet30.
To change the Default Windows installation environment in Wine by going to Applications >> Wine >> Configure Wine
(Settings for when installing dotnet20)
(Settings for when installing dotnet30)
Results:
Do not bother Kryal with Ubuntu / OSX related issues. Direct them to Jack H.
---------------- Known IssuesMinor Annoyances with Ubuntu/OSX Workaround:
Checkmarks Missing from Boxes (FUNCTIONAL, graphic is merely missing)
Menu is an 'X' (FUNCTIONAL, only text is missing)
Error Poppup Upon Opening (FUNCTIONAL)
Error Poppup Upon Export (FUNCTIONAL. Just hit OK)
Rare/Random Error boxes (None that have hindered functionality however.)
I Found a Glitch! Post about it in detail here on this thread so we can add it to the small handful of known glitches. We’ll attempt to reproduce all known issues, and fix them for 2.0b. - PAL or NTSC? - Version of File Replacement Code? (if on Wii) / Dolphin version (if on emulator) - Other characters playing? - Length of fight / When the freeze happened - etc.
pre-hexed PAC files is long overdue. I've seen a few here and there, and wont be adding them here until the creators want them here.
Due to multiple people not reading the FAQ at the bottom of the post, it has been moved to the top. Seriously guys, READ IT.
FAQ There's a lot of pages in this thread. Let's answer a few of the questions that appear often:
Q: Can you get rid of Link/Toon Link's Hat? How about Mario, Luigi etc.
- A: No. It leaves a gaping hole in the back of his head. As for Mario, and the others, their hat goes inside their heads for some odd reason. Removing Donkey Kong's tie leaves a hole in his neck.
Q: How about <insertcharacterhere>?
- A: It depends. In Brawlbox, we preview the removal of a polygon before actually hexing it off to see what it removes. If it leaves holes, we'll most likely not do it, unless they're not too noticeable. Also, some polygons can be removed by texture transparency, so you might want to try that before you make a request. For more information, visit Mnsg's topic about texture formats. http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=3329.0 BrawlBox tells you what image is which format, so check, and compare in Mnsg's topic to see if it supports transparency, and to actually attempt to make it transparent.
Q: I got a .mdl0 file instead of a .pac file. How do I use it?
- A: Simple, just like any texture in Brawlbox, you replace a characters .mdl0 file with it. Here's an example (picture provided by Shadow).
Q: Can PARTS of polygons be removed? I saw that Ann got rid of the mustaches from Mario, Luigi, and Wario, but when I try it, it gets rid of their arms too.
- A: Yes and No. The best way to remove anything is by forcing vertices to the ground, not by removing polygons. Major polygon removal will result in massive glitching. Verticy methods work with solid polygon pieces, and not so well with cloth (unless you're getting rid of all of it). For example, captain falcon's scarf can only be removed with partial polygon removal, not with verticy moving.
Q: I'm having trouble getting it to work, what are your settings you're using?
- A: A very small handful of people have had trouble with some of the pre-hexed PAC files. I can assure you, I make sure they work using multiple characters, and multiple levels before release. Many hangups are caused by an overload of reading from the SD card.
If you're running brawl+, you're more susceptible to running into graphical hangups. My settings are as follows: Wii: 3.2u | File Replacement Code: 3.5.1 | Method of Game Loading: USB Harddrive | Song replaced on test stage: Yes | Textured Stage: Yes | Other Codes used: No tripping, unrestricted camera, infinite replays. | Region: NTSC
Good Luck, and have fun.
Please use these to update/create your characters as needed. Just remember to credit where you got the PAC from.
How to use: New Texture: 1) Open the PAC inside brawlbox 2) Apply your textures 3) File >> Save As >> yourfile.PCS <-- Save as PCS to show up in game. 4) Place on SD card in the appropriate space. (And remember that characters who transform in-game require both the PAC and PCS.) Updating an Old Texture: 1) Open the PAC inside brawl box. 2) Find the mdl0 file inside the first modeldata folder (located inside the first brres folder normally) 3) Right click on the mdl0 file, and click "extract". Save it somehwhere you will remember. 4) Open up your own character's PAC in brawlbox. Find the same mdl0 file, and right click >> "replace". Replace with the new mdl0 file you just extracted. (go to step 3 in the above instructions now)
*Special Character Notes* Diddy:Unlike Peach's crown, there is zero lag when taunting with the missing cap. Irrelevant. Peach's Crown is now removable.
Ike: You'll notice that with the removal of the scarf, if you are behind Ike, and have a very high angle look down his neck, you can see through to the floor. It's EXTREMELY un-noticable during gameplay, and well worth using the scarf removal.
Marth:You'll have to deal with the stripes on his shirt. Color them with the shirt or something. The problem is... if you get rid of them... his legs get removed. Syrus removed them, and an update will be/is up now.
Marth (Sheathless): Forgot to remove the sheath on the 2nd rendition of Marth (thanks for poniting that out Oizen) --- One teeny tiny side effect, as you can see in image 1, is that when he taunts, the sword will "disappear" into the sheath that is no longer there. Not noticeable in-game. Totally worth it if you're aiming for a perfectly stripped down texture using Marth.
Peach: The "holder" of the amulet on her chest can be made transparent via normal methods within the tga file.
Peach:Her Crown CAN be removed, however, when she uses her crown attack (air >A), the game slows down significantly for 4 seconds, and then everybody disapears. Once the 4 seconds are over, the game plays at 8x speed for about 1 second to compensate for the lost time. Hardly playable. For now, you'll have to use codes for this. -__- *new* After some more research into the hexing code, I've removed the crown.
Pit (skirtless): There is a very minor hole on his right side due to his skirt creeping up past his belt. Not noticeable during gameplay.
I'm at a loss as to how to change the background color for Lylat Cruise. There is not texture depicting complete blackness. I've modified all corresponding textures that have some sort of black in the background, but to no avail. It must be located in a lighting setting within another portion of one of it's many PAC files (most likely the SPACE.pac one)
Some copy-pasta for you. DOWNLOAD LINKS ARE IN THE GALLERY. Not here.
Like the title says. Note: No direct download links on this page becausethey're hosted on mediafire and other sites that could have an expiring link. It's free, so it's bound to become broken sometime. I'd rather fix the download link in onelocation, thank you very much. If you make a youtube video with my creations, I'll place it here!

We hereby invite you to join and participate in the next revolutionary step in the hacking community. This step is key for brawl hackers and users alike, and will well accomplish what we have all meagerly attempted to get done within forums and/or extremely long and unorganized roster pages.
We present to you, the BrawlHacks Wiki. We can assure you that many, many hours (even weeks) went into the preparation and creation of this Wiki, and is very ready for your input. We didn't want to clutter up this post with more than 1 image, so you'll have to click the link above and become familiar with the navigation and purpose of the BrawlHacks Wiki.
[While currently incomplete, we need your input and help to finish it!]
While the main page does state "MeowMix Wiki" - it was required that we name it that in order to give Wikia.com information about our roots. This Wiki is, however, NOT AT ALL exclusive to MeowMix textures. In fact, it is quite the opposite. We intend for every texture hacker, whether on a team or not, to participate freely in updating the database of textures within the Wiki.
By using the BrawlHacks Wiki, users will be able to copy and paste a simple template, edit it, and have their texture freely downloadable among other users. Many popular forums have attempted, and done fairly well at making sure giant "indexes" of textures were well organized and easily usable. Where the forums fail, however, is where the BrawlHacks Wiki picks up the slack. No admins will have to help each and every individual user. There will be house-cleaning every once in a while, but with the templates provided - the addition and updating of textures is as easy as 1-2-3.
If you are on a texture hacking team, we admonish you to let your visitors know via an update, as well as participate yourself. The faster this Wiki grows, the more central the site will be for people to come and enjoy everybody's creations.
Don't think for a second that just because you may be on a team that this will transfer the focus of texture creations from your site to this one. That is not the intention of the BrawlHacks Wiki. The purpose is to create a central location where users can view, submit, and download each texture easily.
We appreciate all that you have done to participate in the Brawl Hacking Community, and hope to continue to see more artisans in the near future.
