where do i put it? i use the rivvolution xml that makes it load geckos folders. Does in go in System, Menu2, or PFMENU2

The problem is the amount of memory that common5.pac is using. Whatever you replaced on there must've made the file use more memory than normal.
P.S.: You can remove the motion archives involving Charizard and Squirtle from common5.pac to heavily lower its memory to between 5 MB and 6 MB. It doesn't affect the two at all, even when using Riivolution.

What did you do to the archive, sc_selmap_en? If you replaced any texture parts, make sure that you didn't change the texture formats for them.
Take a look at the info below for more information about some of the texture parts, and their formats.
MenSelmapIcon.## - CI8 texture / RGB5A3 palette MenSelchrMark.## - I4 texture MenSelmapFrontBg - I4 texture MenSelmapFrontStname.## - I4 texture MenSelmapMark.## - IA4 texture MenSelmapPrevbase.## - CMPR texture
Regarding the _en part of the file name, that's usually there to show that the file contains English language contents.

What region is your Wii; NTSC or PAL? You can't use an NTSC common5.pac with a PAL version of Brawl.
