I tried everything, I have v1.04, and no matter what xml I use, it crashes before the game even starts. the file patch works for me, but I want sounds with mine!!!

Also check the codeset and make sure you have the needed files like that gameconfig file.

RSB?01: codeliststart = 80570000 codelistend = 80580000 poke(800042B8, 60000000) pokeifequal(803E9930, 4BFECA1D, 803E9930, 60000000) pokeifequal(803E99A8, 4BFECA1D, 803E99A8, 60000000) pokeifequal(803E9D5C, 4BFECA1D, 803E9D5C, 60000000) copy that into notepad and save it as gameconfig.txt, however all that does is allow u to go past the 255 code limit. its not likely the cause of ur freezing. make sure u do not have the file patch code in ur gct if ur using riivo.

Im facing a similar problem, no matter which tutorial i try to follow, and which Xml i use, the game loads brawl, but crashes after i try to load any hack.
Currently have a thread going to try to get help on how to fix this, not getting any positive results though...

You know I'm having the exact same problem. It kept freezing at a black screen before the strap loader came up. But now it just freezes on the Riivolution menu when trying to launch it.
I had the GCTs taken off and disabled the function for the FPC to be used on it but that didn't work and someone said to check my Wii System Time, what does that have to do with this?

system time O.o that shouldn't effect anything. the gct can cause issues tho. for instance if u have a gct with the file patch code inside it, it won't work right.

Well I have a GCT placed back in without the FPC, just two codes for Ike to uses Marth's Animations for his Roy PSA Model hack. But even that, Riivolution freezes before the game can even load, its stuck at Loading... and its becoming a hassle. I don't know what else to do. Plus earlier, when I went into the Homebrew Channel, the Wii suddenly slapped a System Files was Corrupted message but when I restarted the Wii, it was fine. o.o
