Interesting, but I think it would look better if it was based on the final boss area:

It looks good, but IMHO I think it looks a bit thrown together. However, I can see some major potential for it. Maybe just a little work here and there and it could end up being an amazing texture hack. Keep working at it. I'm still learning the ropes myself.
