^this, also it's possible to install apps as channels (like riivolution) so you don't need to go to HBC or activate an exploit over and over.

pikazz, Homebrew Channel is safe to install; you can even do this without a disc.
On HackMii, there's a little app called "HackMii Installer". You can run it with another app called "BannerBomb" (if you're in System Menu 4.2 or less) or "LetterBomb" (if you're on System Menu 4.3). HackMii Installer can install Homebrew Channel and BootMii and I highly recommend getting both.
hm, I wonder how letterbomb works. does it work with wired internet?

I wanna update my wii so I can see if the discplay can fix itself D:
but I dont wanna buy a new wii if it doesn't work Im srs here
only me that has the problem about discplay that only MKWii and SSBB can't be read?

Well, using my SD card, I downloaded a bunch of that stuff and installed Homebrew, and all I use on it is Gecko.... but I don't have any other programs but HBC, so I guess I'm safe for now?  I see what you did there ...
What would you recommend me to do if I get Skyward Sword and it wants an update?  Oh shi~

And thanks for the info so far!  Happy Face

Mm, people over at the Wiird forums say you should never update from a disc, but to update by launching through Gecko instead. Gecko just installs the IOS's straight from the disc, while updating through the disc menu messes with your firmware (I think Im srs here).

And no exploit requires any Internet access.

As for how LetterBomb works, well I haven't really looked much into it, but I'm sure you've heard of BannerBomb. It uses a (purposely) badly designed channel banner to run unauthorized code (in this case, your homebrew). LetterBomb does something similar, except that it runs the exploit from reading a specified letter in your Wii mailbox (or whatever it's called).

Hm... I really only use Riivolution to run all my homebrew. Will my wii get bricked if i update with HBC removed, and these left?
    Riivolution Channel
    Bootmii As ios

Also, speaking of bootmii, I only have it as ios because the last hackmii installer said, "The installed boot1 prevents a boot2 install." Also, if bootmii as ios gets detected, will it cause a brick? Also, i installed HBC in June 2011

No it's completely safe, the only risk that can happen is the bootmii IOS being removed, which shouldn't cause a brixk.

Now that the game is out, has anyone tried playing it without gecko? Is it safe? (Just making 100% sure....)

Kirby also worked, and cIOS is something a hacker installs to be able to play backups.
cIOS shouldn't affect your wii in any way except for apps that use them (mostly backup loaders).

havent read both pages, but damn,

DONT UPDATE UR WII, IT DOESNT DO ANY GOOD, AND U DONT NEED THE UPDATE TO PLAY SKYWARD SWORD (for example)

i still have 4.2, and ive been playing skyward sword... soooooo, dont update unless u want to be screwed...

HOW TO NOT UPDATE: simple, if ur game is original disc, and u dont use usb loaders, just play with GECKO, since that wont update...
if u have original disc+usb loader, open ur usb loader, and click on install, and voila, u have the game on ur hard drive >.<

It did for me, but that was only because I had some cIOS with revisions lower than the update.
I installed the update, and my only problem was that I had to re-install my cIOS
(This time with higher revision, so it won't remove my cIOS again Tongue )

I have messed with a ton of cIOSes for stuff. I insalled StartPatch so that I wont ever be forced to update. You can play from the Disk Channel without having to go through gecko with it. I recommend checking it out, though it was kind of a pain to figure out how to get it to install. Tons with some other cool options, so it's pretty worth it.

I won't need it, as I installed cIOS with max revision, which means the updates will no longer try to patch it Cheesy
