SUCCESS! If you change the texture it wont affect the model. Impossible. Only one out there is VILE's, and he's not releasing it. You need the motion file to make his spikes stick up, no one else can do what VILE did to Sonic.

Now the quills just need to slightly be straightened/stick outward more like in the above image. The center quill on the back can also be dropped since only the sides stick up.
