Hi. I'm beginning to make 3D models. What polygon budget do I need to stay under for a character?

Is there anyone that can help me out? I just need an estimated number of polygons that I need to stay under before I begin to skin my model (my model is almost to that point now).

I'm pretty sure it's 6k.

Ok, thanks. I'll keep this in mind.

EDIT: If that is an accurate estimate, then I'm doing well. I'm at a bit over 2000 polygons right now with only one or two things to add. Gives me room to perhaps connect some edges and smooth it out. Thanks again!

Depends on the character you're gonna put it over. If you open a character's file in BrawlBox then look at their model your can see how many polygons it has. Try to remain under that amount. Its usually about 10-12K.

If you really want to try, you can push 16K, but it makes things lag if there's too many of the model on the screen.

Nah, I won't push it. I probably would try it normally, but I can't even play Brawl right now on my Wii because someone is borrowing it at the moment, and I won't rely on an emulator for a lag test.

Thanks for that link Renova. That really helped in a number of ways.
