I am installing Project M for Brawl, but do I still need to install all of Brawl's data? If so, how much?

You only need to put the new files on your SD Card and boot up the game using your preferred method. Any file "missing" in Project M will be handled by your Brawl disc, no need to put in what is not being replaced
