Title: Question about model hacks.
Post by: Richard7 on August 16, 2010, 10:22:27 PM
Do model hacks change character hitboxes/hurtboxes? In other words, can I be confident that if I use model hacks in competitive play, will there be no differences besides the look of the characters?

No, they don't. It's because hitboxes are based around the character's bones.

Yeah but what about for example the model texture that makes MetaKnight the moon from Majora's Mask? If you use an attack on the moon will he get hit?

Also, I've tried 1 model hack, it was the WarioKong, I noticed it made changes to shield, which is definitely not good for competitive play.

Can I get a second opinion on the subject?

Yeah, model hacks will mess things up on a character because the bones move to different places. I had to stop using Geno over Lucas because his throw was screwed up and several of his hitboxes where either in the wrong place or too small. In your moon example though, I think that is a vertex hack, not a model hack, so it should be ok.

From what I've seen, mariokart64n's Mewtwo vertex hack has its fair share of issues.  For one thing, Lucario's u-smash doesn't damage opponents at all with that vertex hack.  Also, when Mewtwo grabs opponents, its pummel move doesn't do any damage either.

Thanks for the responses people, I guess model hacks are out of the question for competitive play, unless I happen to stumble across one that doesn't change anything, but I doubt that'll happen.
