I took snapshots of characters and saved them on my SD card, then I went to my SD card and found my images in the private folder in a folder called al next to the pf folder. inside I seen .bin files, ex: al_090802_1818.bin
Is this normal, should I convert the files then put them on GIMP?
That's normal.
Check the FAQ --- there is both an online converter and an EXE version listed.

IMO, MeowMix has some of the best guides out there. (And I've been talking with one of their staff --- apparently their tutorial videos are about 8 times the file size of mine --- HD, 60fps, damn XD)
