Title: trouble making stage textures Post by: ReesesPieces on August 06, 2009, 01:48:49 AM i just started making my own textures, and i followed this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c32UpTh4RiA i have everything fine up until 5:10. right there i get a message saying: "The final size was too big. How to solve this: Reduce the palette on +1 and +2 -OR- Simplify the patterns on normal textures. I dont know what this stuff means, so if you know can you explain it to me please Title: Re: trouble making stage textures Post by: ピカノ on August 06, 2009, 01:57:13 AM It means the image is too large / complex.
Stages are compressed, and if your images don't compress to the same size or smaller than the original... it won't work. So... you can reduce the pallet (even for non-indexed) Image > Mode > Indexed > Some number (lower == better compression, but worse quality due to lack of colors) (But if the image is not-indexed, you'll have to set it back to normal but Image > Mode > RGB) Otherwise, you can make the image simpler. A black square of 50x50 will compress to a smaller size than a rainbow gradient. If you're image is too "busy" it might suffer from this. In most cases, stages contain at least 1 large image (bigger than the rest, something around 512x512 or larger) --- if you apply one of these steps to said file, you more than likely won't have to be so stingy with the others.
