All hacking done with USB gecko is only temporary so no?

No. Repeated reading from the SD card might mess up the card eventually, but softmodding isn't going to do anything to the hardware itself.

The only problem I've had so far with hacking on my wii is my SD card.

It tends to over heat when I stream music off of it.

I put my crap 100 Mega bite SD card into my wii, It had 1 song, Texture codes, Home brew and Geco OS channel.

left it on for a few hours while streaming, and took it out later, its really hot, the plastic is a bit melted, and It doesn't work anymore.

Its not really a problem if you don't play brawl for long periods of time.

Which I dont

I use all kinds of codes from textures to music (I have played for hours with people) and I've never had it warm up or anything. I still take out the sd when not in use just for safety purposes. But my Wii in general has had no problems loading games or anything in brawl, unless it's hard-modding, I wouldn't worry about it.

The SD card is the thing you should be worrying about, man. (Unless you are using usb loader to load a hacked brawl iso, in that case, you don't even need a SD card for hacking.) Basically, brawl hacking won't screw the wii itself, just the SD card. (And maybe crappy / old  usb memory storage drives.)

What the guy over at ESH has is called a dying disc drive/laser. That had nothing to do with hacking it's just the fact that the wii's disc drive is crappy. Same thing happend to me twice, now I'm using USB loader. I'm not having that piece of [censored] repaired if it's going to break soon after again.

And about your fears about SD card breaking from streaming music: LOL

Get a quality SD card and nothing's gonna happen. I've been accidently streaming music for hours straight (forgot to turn off in my music while testing custom brstm) and the card didn't overheat or anything.

But yeah in a way Brawl hacking will screw your SD card eventually. Everytime you write something to it you shorten its lifespan, that's just the flash memory works.

The SD card's life span should last longer if you limit which things that you're trying to hack.  It won't last very long if you're using music hacks.

Fine you're bringing up that rumor again. How about you provide some proof why READING from an SD card should break it?
Yes streaming is nothing else but constant reading and while you always hear about the write-erease cycle damaging the card I've never heard of streaming/reading doing anything to your SD card before the whole music loading thing for Brawl came up.
So unless someone comes up with proof I'm fairly certain that it's just a stupid rumor that originated somewhere in the smash community.

My MarioKart got [censored]ed up...and my SD card reads Textures that are NOT in the SD card.
FitLink05 is Firce Dentiy Link but it shows up Zora suit Link.
Dont know why?

Am I just lucky? My SD card has never gotten any hotter than slightly warm, even after a couple of hours. I guess I just have a sturdy card.
