Title: .bin help
Post by: Rufio on September 28, 2010, 09:57:14 PM
I am trying to get models from another game (Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo). I read on the Smash World Forums that this game has MDL0s and they are all in uncompressed .bin files. I have gotten the files out but I have no idea what to do with them from here. If anyone can give me any help with this I'll be sure to give you credit if I can get an actual character made from it.  Thanks in advance.

You mean you got the models?
Watch WackaAlpaca tutorials. They are very helpful.
Just search wackaalpaca on YouTube.

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. I only have these pesky .bin files and I'm asking how I get tie mdl0s out of them. I've seen alpaca's videos and know how to do all of that. I just need to get the mdl0s com the .bin files.

Hmmm... I've never officially imported a model from another game before, but I'll do some research... >_>

So does anyone else maybe have some info on this? I know people have gotten the mdl0s from this game with the .bin files because I have seen the kid goku model. Thanks in advance, and I will give credit to all who help.

You need to open the *.BIN file in a hex editor. I prefer HxD.
Then type CTRL-F to search, then search for "bres."
Then highlight from above to the top and delete everything.
Then follow Fortwaffle's instructions and your done! ;D
Sorry I didn't answer last night. I need some rest too you know. :P

Everything can be found in the resources page.

Okay, I have encountered 1 problem. I did exactly as you said and deleted everything above the "bres" line. I can now technically view the brres in brawlbox, but, as expected I cannot preview the mdl0 yet. So when I go to fortwaffle's automatic hexing program, which I have been using for a long time now, it does not read the file to be hexed. It is still technically saved as *.BIN file, and, when I deleted the code, it also made a *.BAK file. Any insight as to what I should do will be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. I figured it out right after I posted this. I had completely forgotten that I can save AS a *.BRRES via brawlbox. Thanks again.

If there are any more problems, please ask me.
I also imported a model.
It was Absol from PokePark Wii. :af:
And I also imported a random rock... :srs:

Okay, well, I am also wanting to get models from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. I got the ISO and can get all the files from it, but I cannot get any useful character MDL0s. There are a lot of *.BIN files, and I have tried doing the same thing as before, but it is not working. I have found a *.BIN file for what I believe would be the file that would contain the MDL0 I need, the character's name being Collete. Now when I open it up in HxD, where the "bres" line would be for the other game, I see ".collet.brres.". If you think of anything to try with this I would, as usual, be very thankful. :)

Hmmm... I'm not so sure about what to do.
Try deleting everything above "collet.brres."
If that doesn't work, then delete the "colat" part.

No dice there. I've tried a ton of different *.BIN files and tried doing both of those things and got no results. I know people are getting them from this ISO because people have made plenty of Lloyds and Kratos (both characters from the game).  :-\

some files are composed of multiple brres files (like 80 or such).

after deleting the 1st part (above the first bres),
search again for the next bres.
cut everything above that and paste it in a blank file
(I like to create txt documents and rename them to brres)
now use fortwaffles mdl0 header fix on that and it should work perfectly :)

and just repeat the process on the original file until you finish it...

I forgot to post back here, but here I go.  I would like to say thank you Tcll, because what you told me is exactly what I needed to find a lot of stuff.  The only problem is just ISo specific (Tales of Symphonai: Dawn of the New World).  The *MDL0 files are a pain because even after I run the automatic model hexer they still don't work.  I know they require extensive hexing to get working, but I'm not exactly good at hexing yet so I'll tackle this project later when I understand it a bit more.  Thanks again!
