Title: Removing Parts of Polygons?
Post by: Tuxedo Mask on October 06, 2010, 08:45:12 PM
Is there a way to remove parts of polygons?

I know I could just vertex them to be as small as possible, but that still leaves something visible.

It is possible because Ann Harvest's Mustacheless Mario was hexed and his moustache is on the same polygon as his arms and feet but I don't know how.
You could remove it by vertex editing then push it inside the body so the tiny bit that is left won't be seen.

Select all the vertices and just give them all the same coordinates. Whatever the position, they'll be in a 0x0x0 cube, which means they won't be visible no matter what.

Of course, chances are it may fail if you're editing something attached to a bone. >_>

There's also this "anything transparentable" method about changing the properties of the texture, I think. But I haven't investigated it much. Probably the best, easiest and cleanest way to remove a part of a polygon.

Thanks, for both of the answers.

I'm editing Zelda's dress and I put half of her dress vertices in one area. It works for the most part, but whenever she moves, the side I edited grows back and still moves with her then goes back to being small.

Probably because it's still attached to a bone.

I'll just edit the bones in Brawlbox to make them not move then.

you do know that zeldas dress can be made transparent right? In fact almost her enitre body can be made transparent.

Aaagh, don't do this ! Zelda is almost fully transparentable ! o.o

Use transparency above all things. xP

Your order of priority when hacking should always be :
- check is a texture can solve it
If not, then
- check if hexing out can solve it
If not, then
- vertex edit

It's going from the most stable and safest to the hardest and riskiest. :3

Yeah, I know her dress can be transparent.

But what I meant was that I needed the left side of her dress to not be there, but keep the right.

I don't know if that really makes sense or not since it's kind of difficult to explain.

But I have a general idea to fix my problem now so I'm good!
