Title: Animations in 2d stages
Post by: Ls777 on October 11, 2010, 08:00:35 AM
Ok, so i am quite new to making brawl hacks.
I have quite a few good stage ideas, and im decently computer literate so no worries there.
im following this tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2L3pzoIeSk
and basically, id like to add additional planes, if possible, and animate them (ie rotation, translation.)
Is it also possible to have sequential displays of images? like animated gifs? or anyway to simulate that?
thanks in advance.

Help me out and im sure to have some high quality 2d stages out in record time! :D

Well, I think that you can just put in a 2D model (like Lakitu and Exite Bikers) and put in it the stage and animate it (I'm not sure if they have actual bones to animate).
Also, you can't put in .GIFS but Mewtwo2000 made a (partly) 2D stage that has an animated background. Try reverse engineering that and try to recreate it...

Thank you, that could help.
Can i simply duplicate the "Stage" plane to create another plane in 3d space and move it around? Id like to have multiple planes to create a cool depth effect.

You could, but if you want a different texture on it, rename the texture1 data and the name of the texture in the materials1 data to what you want the new texture to be named. That is, click the plus on the mdl0, go into the textures1 tab in there, change its name to something else, go into materials1, EXPAND the data in there by clicking the plus, then rename the data in there to the same thing. Also, rename the bone.

It's easier than it sounds.

Also (don't quote me on this, it may not be true) I think that animated mewtwo2000 stage uses a bunch of 2D models just changing positions so only 1 is displayed at a time to make a frame by frame animation.

Thank you, and id love to try that, but right now im stuck at scaling a plane xD
can you tell me which, if any, of these bones control scaling? ive tried them all and none of them work, im at my wits end
(ive established that bodyM controls translation)

You could probably just use Soldier. Actually, I'm sure you can.

Thanks for the help. Im making progress ^_^
another question... is there anything i can use other than clip alpha?
the edges are extremely pixelated in game, while they look flawless in photoshop
