Title: Transparency Discrepency between BrawlBox and in-game.
Post by: Weyard on December 11, 2010, 05:46:14 AM
I'm working on a Shinbora on Metaknight, and I've ran into some problems.
I attempted to vertex his wings and cape, but after countless patchs, they refused to return to the position that I wanted. So I randomly decided to see if his wings allowed transparency. I erased a portion of them and replaced it in, then went to Brawl Box's previewer. Thankfully, they were indeed transparent. As you can see here:

So I made the textures that I needed on the wings and cape, while erasing out the portion that I wanted to be transparent. But in-game, the wing and cape show up black instead of transparent.  As you can see here:

From my experience, when BrawlBox shows something as transparent, it should be transparent in-game. In the circumstance that transparency isn't supported, BrawlBox's previewer usually shows that texture as black or white.

Is there any way past this? Or do his wings just not support transparency or vertexing? I suppose it will end up looking fine even with this problem, but it would be much better if I could resolve it.

Thats not true at all. If you make anything transparent on a texture BrawlBox will show it as transparent regardless of whether it can be transparent in-game or not.

Is there any way past this?

I don't think anyone has found a way to allow transparency on textures that don't normally allow it yet. You're probably gonna have to keep patching it until it looks right.

Whats the most patches something has required before? I took the tail through atleast 7 or 8 and it never did end up right.

Also, any idea why his shoulderpads still show up? They arent visible on his t frame but they appear during any animation.

I patched the wings around 7 times, but it was as though it started over after the first 3-4 patches.

I'll try again I guess.

I don't know why the shoulder's still show up and some stuff just needs alot of patches.

i was going to make all of his animations from scratch anyway so the shoulders arent that much of a problem. They only appear during existing animations for whatever reason.

This same exact thing has happened to me while editing Marth's textures.
