Title: Another common5 problem. Post by: EarthBound on December 11, 2010, 04:12:12 PM So I have been adding custom stage select icons, portraits, and names, and I have run into a problem. I know that if the size of common5 is too large, it will cause the game to freeze, but I'm having it freeze (when trying to enter the stage select screen) even though it is very much under the maximum size.
The last thing I did was put in a new stage select portrait. Once it froze, I replaced the new portrait with the original, and no freezing occurred. I then replaced another one I modified with the original, and attempted to put back in the one which made my game froze. When I did this, the game did not freeze. So even though my common5 size is below the max, I am having this freezing problem seemingly due to having too much edited content. Another note worthy point is that when I add a picture that puts me over this 'limit', the size of the common5 increases by... I believe it's 7kb. (I forget what the unit of data size I was going by, I'm not on my Brawl editing computer). So even though both pictures are the same size, when I make this one replacement the size of the common5 increases anyway. Sorry if any of this was confusing, I am finding it somewhat hard to communicate my problem in a simple manner. Thanks for your time to whoever has read this! ;D Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: SSJCerious on December 11, 2010, 04:38:30 PM hmm...Which brawlbox are you using? 4.1 is horrible for compressing, just in case your using that.

Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: EarthBound on December 12, 2010, 03:26:02 PM I'm using v0.63d, so I guess that's not the problem.
I have the numbers here. My common5 is 11,913 KB, so it's more than small enough. And when I replace the new portrait with the old one which is the same size, the common5 size goes down to 11,907 KB. Another thought I has was concerning the amount of colours in a picture. When you replace a picture in brawbox there is that little info panel at the top right, and the only number that changes out of ever other one when I do something like this is the 'colors' one. The 75m portrait has 1,551 colours. The one I replaced it with had 18,992. I reduced this down to 843, however changing this color property didn't solve any problems. Sucks to hear that you have the same problem (specter), hopefully we can figure something out... I'm useless if I can't do this kind of stuff. I beg anyone with the knowledge to assist. I can't think of any next course of action... Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: (specter) on December 12, 2010, 03:36:59 PM I'm using v0.63d, so I guess that's not the problem. I can't think of any next course of action... It probably went down because whatever you replaced it with was probably smaller in size than the original. I don't think the amount of colors it has matters, just make sure its dimension and format are the same as what your replacing it with. Also, I don't think anyone knows how. I posted a topic with this same question (except I use sc_selcharacter and not common5, and my problem is replacing CSP texts), and it's been sitting around the forum for weeks and I keep bumping and bumping and bumping and no one seems to know for the life of them. We're lost together it seems. Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: mnsg on December 12, 2010, 03:41:52 PM Well, if what I told you doesn't work, them I'm at a huge (http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/143/193/cad-20080602-358b1.jpg?1309710446). My game never crashed whenever I replaced CSS names.

My game never crashed whenever I replaced CSS names. I don't know if I told you this but I was able to add Zero text over Link, but that was it. No more text after that. And now I can't even replace Zero with Link's name like it was originally. Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: mnsg on December 12, 2010, 04:36:17 PM Well that makes no sense. Have you tried redoing everything on an unedited sc_selcharacter.pac? Best to begin at the very start if you've edited something that you didn't want to touch.

EarthBound, maybe you should do the same since we share a similar problem. Title: Re: Another common5 problem. Post by: EarthBound on December 12, 2010, 05:20:55 PM Yeah, I think I may take that advice and scrap everything, do it all from the beginning. But when that inevitably does not work, I'm coming back!
