Title: Replacing Characters
Post by: Nexus Red on December 12, 2010, 03:31:45 PM
How would you replace a character completely? What are the steps?

For example, if I were to use law_law's knuckles over Pikachu or Alm5252's Bomberman over Olimar, how would I replace the voice of the character, the announcer, the in-game image, wiimote, etc.?

Voices and sound effects can only be replaced if you use Riivolution.  A guide for using Riivolution can be found in the Tutorials section.  Same goes for the announcer and the Wiimote sound.

As for everything else, I'm not really sure what you specifically want to replace.  Can you be a bit more specific?

Make PSA, sound effects, CSPs, recolors, battle images, etc. Its ALL done separately.

And one more thing while I have this open. What is the format when importing a strap menu? Is is StrapEn.pac and add the Thumb.db?

No, not really.  It's what I use and I find it to be quite easy.  However, the actual hacking of sounds is quite difficult and I don't know how to do it.

Also, by in-game portraits, do you mean "in-battle" portraits or select screen portraits?

Both. And would I have about 100+ hacks already in place on my SD card. Would I need to move them?

As for battle portraits, you'll need to go to the resources section of the vault and go into the data partition file.  Once there, go to the info folder, then the portrait folder and you'll see a large number of InfFace### files.  Each of these files corresponds to a character color.  Simply download the ones for the colors you want to have portraits for then replace the portraits in BrawlBox.

Also, you shouldn't have to remove all of you hacks to get Riivolution.  You'll just have to get rid of Gecko and download the necessary Riivolution files.  Again, go to the Riivolution tutorial in the tutorial boards for more info.

I can't say that I'll be making hacks, but this'll help a lot with adding them. Thanks. :D

No problem.  If you need anything else, feel free to ask.
