Title: How do you/Is it possible to.....
Post by: TruePhilosopher on January 03, 2011, 05:16:40 AM
Animate 2-D stages?  Such as, if I wanted to make a stage based on the Woods from Mortal Kombat 2 where trees have faces and they're moving.  Is this possible?  Or does this need to be done in a 3-D stage?  My passion towards Brawl hacking really lies in stage creation and I would like some help in getting started haha, though I can't create anything too fancy for lack of 3DS  :>.>palm:

Yea, its possible....however the more animations involved, you will experience more lag. Have too much and it crashes.

There are loads of examples of this in the Brawl Vault

You can animate 2-D stages by creating their individual frames in Brawl Box or using some other program to make the animation

Could I record a video from an old retro game like Mortal Kombat 2 and then convert it to the correct file to work on a stage?

You can use any image you want so long as it is in the correct format. Usually CMPR, but it differs.

Really, you're better off using ripped textures.

Try looking here (http://www.spriters-resource.com/).

Well thanks to everyone who wrote in to help me!  I think I'll stick to doing static 2-D stages.....the addition of textures to a stage and how to link them together to form an animation is a lil over my head  :notimp:

It can be cumbersome, yes. But with a little practice you fall into the swing of things.

If at some point you feel ready to tackle 3D stages, I would look here (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=16029.0) first.
