Title: How to play games that require 4.3 system menu
Post by: Enigmatic on January 09, 2011, 01:19:41 AM
I got Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii and it needs the newest system update to play apparently. Is there any way to get around it? It looks like you cant hack 4.3 at the moment, and I don't want to have to use anything like the smashstack hack every time I want to use homebrew. Do I just have to wait to play it? Thanks.

Try this (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Startpatch). It will allow you to play your games through the Disc channel without updating. Just install the 'block disc updates' patch. Alternatively you can use Gecko, but you need to boot the Homebrew channel everytime you want to play your games.

Gecko OS and USB Loaders also work.

Thanks, I will probably get this going. It mentioned allowing the playing of region free games. Lets say that I broke a wii game and downloaded a copy to replace it. Can I burn it and play that burnt backup?

I tried to get Riivolution working a while ago, but couldn't get it to work. Meh...

No, Gecko only reads retail discs. For that, use Neogamma.

Also, I have a 4.3 Wii and I have no problems with hacks.

I was talking about using StartPatch to load them through the disk menu, not using Gecko.
