Title: For Those of You With 3DS Max...
Post by: Mewcario on February 14, 2011, 06:07:55 PM
I just made an amazing discovery recently; that you can get 3DS Max as a student for non-commercial, non-profit use with a 3-year license. I find this amazing, for I can at last try vertex hacks. However, I have some questions for those of you who already have 3DS Max.

1) Is BBox compatible with 3DS 2011?

2) Which version is BBox-friendly: Autodesk 3DS Max, or Autodesk 3DS Max Design? (In fact, what's the difference?)

3) After the 3 years are over, can I renew the license for as long as I'm a student?

Have you read Miacis' Vertex Thread/Guide?
You can only use 3DS Max 8 and 3DS Max 9.

That's what I thought, but I remember hearing that some people use either 2010 or 2011, and it worked. I don't remember who, though... I was just looking for some clarification. Thanks for the friendly response.

EDIT:
"have you tried doing vertex with 3dsmax 2010? you need to download the collada max plugin, maybe it will say that doesnt work with 2010 so move the plugin to the plugins folder in 3dsmax 2010"

^ Vous voyez? Someone told me that I could do this. Hence, I was wondering if 2011 was also compatible.

You'd need the DasDonkey vertex box. That's what I have to use because mariokart's is to f*cking glitchy.

You do know that DasDonkey Box uses MarioKart64n's script so any glitches will be in both.

the tools don't really matter they do the same thing in theory. although you'll have a better workflow using max instead of using another external program.

anyway its not the programs per say, but actually the techniques I used which made the vertex hacks we have what they are.

also note that the max version limitation is a limitation of the Collada Plugin. as long as there is a plugin for max2011 then your perfectly fine using max2011.

another not, I'm working on the MDL0 format, so this might all be obsolete in the next few months anyway...

Yea, I do, but for some reason DasDonkey 2 exports easier for me.
