Title: Sound Effect replacement in Gecko theory
Post by: JBG on February 27, 2011, 02:54:58 PM
So I downloaded BY's Riivolution "hybrid" that allows you to use the Gecko layout for your SD Card (X:private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/fighter/zelda) so that Riivolution is easier to use. I noticed in the Readme that you shouldn't use the file Patch code.

So I had a theory. Note that it's only a theory, and I have no idea how Riivolution is programmed.

It appears to me as if Riivolution has it's own file patch code that allows for Sound Effects editing, that apparently the file Patch code used by Gecko (which was made by PhantomWings) does not. So, what if PhantomWings updated the file patch code, or made a new code to allow Sound Effect replacement on Gecko? That would technicaloly render Riivolution obsolete, because Gecko would be able to do just about everything that Riivolution does, plus snapshots and replays.

It's a thought. SFX editing is a relatively new process, so PhantomWings may or may not be working on a code already.

But my 8GB SD Card won't work on Gecko.

This would be helpful.
I PMed PhantomWings about it.

It's too much coding for Gecko to handle. The amount of coding to replace each individual sound effect cant be handled by gecko unfortunately.

Aren't they all in one .bsrar filee or whatever?
Or does brawl cover each one separately, and load each only when needed?
The second one sounds really inefficient.

True that may be, but then again, Riivolution doesn't want to work on my Wii.

Everything has pros and cons.

@FourOhFour: I know, terribly inefficient.

But it is true that Gecko can't handle a lot of coding. Maybe the person that made Gecko should FIX THIS, HMM?

How do you know this? Did you make an edit to the FPC to replace the brsar? :P

I read the same thing he did, somewhere...
And no, he did not make an edit.

Youre all lucky turds.

some people can't even use riivolution or Gecko to do brawl hacks. heck they don't even have a working Disc system. (my dvd drive died)

i have to use a USB loader to get mah crap done. and the gecko support on Neoogama r7 beta 49, isn't the best in the world and causes random freezing. so i have to manually replace all my files....

see aren't we such lucky turds.

This is why PW doesn't make a new code, coz he doesn't want to.

He said he isn't going to update FPC 4.0 so it is not gonna happen guys (unless someone else does it, but I doubt it).

How is it possible that we only have one person who really knows how to make codes?
Maybe it's the lack of tutorials.

It's assembly code, there is no lack of tutorials, it is a lack of USB Gecko's.

Fuse a USB stick and a gecko.

There, we can now mass produce these new strange hybrids.

USB Geckos are already back on the market. Just letting ALL of you know, though, that these are NOT meant for common use. You won't be able to just pick it up right off the bat. >.>

Someone told me that you have to have had completed up through algebra 2 and geometry in school, as well have a complex understanding of hexidecimal.  The sound right standardtoaster?

I love programming, I have a complex understanding of hexidecimal, love the EXPLETIVE out of math, and have, even without a USBGecko, have made a few codes.

Every day, my reasonings for not buying one becomes fewer and fewer...

Riivolution will not be obsolete. See, what Riivolution does is making the game load files from SD card instead of the disc (AND apply codes). This does not work only with Brawl, but with other Wii games too.

Best solution? Use Riivolution. Or swap the files in ISO (like you may have already been doing before).

+1 what he said. Riivo can replace files in other games as well (MKWii custom maps and textures, TvC, etc) and it has the ability to use codes as well. I personally use the Brawl Mod Launcher for Riivolution because it makes it so much easier to organize textures, sounds, and everything else. I can't say I've used gecko since Riivo came out.

I still wonder how such a program was made.

I mean, it can patch ALL games on the Wii.

And with R3volution, even PS3 has that option.

The problem with Riivolution is that not everyone can use it. In fact, not everyone has the NTSC original copy of the game. The fact that Riivo can only work with original games is really annoying (strangely, with MKW I can even use a backup, it works...)

I use gecko, as it can swap stage files w/out resetting.

Rii Dont works with the chip for Wii: WODE that one can load a Wii/GC game as a normal Disc from a HDD but still Rii can“t atleast Gecko OS can be used with WODE

The one thing that I don't like about Riivo is that you can't take snapshots or replays with it.
