Title: direct disk hacking. is it an option?
Post by: BeefGir on March 31, 2011, 08:42:49 PM
 :srs:
Ok, for the past 2-3 weeks I have been trying to build a fully hacked version of brawl.
Every character has new textures, there are 37 extra levels, new menus, all new full track list. Everyone has a CSP that matches there texture. The 37 new levels have previews, icons, and names. New items. Everything.

But I have run into a problem and a very very depressing realization.
The wii can not load a full cast of CSPs, and it cant load a full thing of level previews. Im guessing its just to much for the thing to handle loading at the same time off the sd card.

Im thinking I have 2 options. Download brawl, and hack the actual game, re-burn it, and run that. or download brawl, hack it, and use a usb loader. If I am replacing the actual disk files, I wont have to worry about it pulling to many things off the sd card. I would only need riivolution for the custom codes, and maybe menu layout.

Are these at all possible? Or should I cut my (http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/143/193/cad-20080602-358b1.jpg?1309710446)es and give up?
also, has anyone ever had a full CSP roster? Like different character for ever color? All 236?

is your sel_character over 3MB? BTW thats where your CSP's are

1) It's definitely possible to have all of your csp replaced (I used to have all but the default portraits replaced) ssp are a little more difficult since you'd actually be adding more, but if you index the previews to a low enough color count and cut enough other stuff out of the sc_selmap it should be ok, theoretically.

2) It's completely possible to do your hacks by modding a downloaded brawl and loading it in either of the ways you mentioned, from what I understand that's how it was done when all of this business first started. I would definitely suggest going usb loader if you decide to take this route, because otherwise you'll have to burn a new disc every time you change something, which will get really time consuming and expensive.

well then thats prefect.
my only queston is, where do codes go in the actual disk? i hear riivolution does not support usb loaders or backed up disks... so how do i get unrestricted camera?

Codes are just that: codes. They're not files.

As for where the files go, open up Brawl in WiiScrubber; replace corresponding files.

Riivo can use codes as well. Just place your codes where your corrisponding XML tells you to place them.

Just make sure your code set DOES NOT include the File Patch Code

i thought riivo didn't support back ups >.> he wants to hack the iso not just file patch

Riivo does not support backups (even though I bet I lot of people wish it did like myself). And I wouldn't exactly say downloading it isn't exactly the "actual game" but rather "the game" (which you just lost  :af:)

i got it working, and its just what i needed. with the usb loader, i can use the ocarina codes that i need, wile at the same time putting all the hacks directly onto the iso. so i have no problems with it loading stuff because its reading it directly off the iso. it works perfect. thanks guys.
