Title: Using Character .rels!
Post by: That BattleToad PSA Guy on May 15, 2011, 03:12:25 PM
I want to use one of KJ's PSAs! But the thing is, the character he used is already the victum of ANOTHER PSA I'm using!

So I plan on using Ike's .rel file...But how do I do this? Correctly, that is...

Rename all of the original FitIke files to Fit(charactername).pac, etc.

Then you just need find a .rel file for the character you want to put him over. I know there's one over Olimar included in the Cloud over Olimar port, and it works fine for me.

Put that file in Olimar's (or whoever, depending on what character it was made over) folder in your SD card.

Insert SD into the wii.

Boot up Smash Bros.

Profit.

OK, Just so I get this right:

1) Rename all the FitNess files to FitIke (the person I want to replace)
2) Get a .rel for Ness
3) Put in the Ike Folder
4) Play Brawl and Enjoy!

Because I want to put in a character that was made out of Ness.

No, there is not a rel for Ness that works over Ike. Yet. There IS a rel file for Ike that ports IKE over anyone.

Then we've reached a deilema. Y'See, I want to use KJ's Yosemite Sam PSA, but I already used the slot of Ness for EternalYoshi's MegaMan. I want to transfer Sam onto another character (namely, Ike).

^Truth, he's correct. No clue what Nameless is talking about.

Yeah, so you can't do it yet.

Yeah, so you can't do it yet.

Actually, I CAN!

I just tested it out, and if you put Ness' .rel in Ike's Folder, IT WORKS!

No clue what Nameless is talking about.
If I didn't explain correctly, I apologize. Right now there are only fit_ike.rel and fit_marth.rel files for porting IKE or MARTH over somebody else, not the other way around.

EDIT: Where did you find Ness' .rel file? As far as I know, it doesn't exist.

Yes, but in order for them to work over other characters, I thought they had to edited to work over a specific character, just like stage .rel's.

Ehh, sorry to break it to you, but .rel files don't work that way. You have to stick the .rel in the module folder (if you have custom stage slots, same spot where those .rel files go), otherwise the game won't pick it up. Also, I can tell you for sure that Ness' .rel renamed to ft_ike.rel to replace Ike will crash the game.

Only a patched ft_ike.rel, a patched ft_marth.rel, or a patched ft_purin.rel (Jigglypuff will definitely work over some characters, as evident with my port of Wisp over G&W) will work. You need to patch them by doing some specific hexing, and Dantarion laid out the specs here: http://opensa.dantarion.com/wiki/Patching_Character_Modules . Be warned, though, it's quite vague at first and you should only use it if you know what you're doing with hexing.

It lets you know what you need to patch for Marth or Jigglypuff over other characters, but Ike works differently. Check out here for that: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=20844.0

what tha...
so you're telling that you didn;'t need codes or something to use it(except for the FPC etc.)
how?
that can't be, I mean, those guys from the clone engine must have tried it and should not work so, how exactly did you managed to use a psa that was over ness on Ike...

What I did:

1) Got an unedited Ness.rel and put in Ike's folder.
2) I ran the game.

It's simple, really...

Well, as of "Right Nao", it's working!

But I'll play your game...

.rels can't work unless in the module folder, so I guess his files are just.. compatible with Ike for lack of better words.
