Title: Character portrait help! Post by: W4ss3r on June 02, 2011, 10:14:13 PM Ok now, I have this problem. I am not a very technical guy, but I spent about 8 hours getting my shadow mod to work, er, almost work. My problem is that on the character selection screen (Is this CSS? I'm a newb at this) it still displays sonic, and shows the sonic character portrait. I am using riivolution 1.04. I seriously think I have tried everything. I did so much digging through various forums.
I have tried using sc_selcharacter.pac, sc_selcharacter_en.pac to no avail. After fiddling with this for about 2 hours, I found out I was supposed to put this into common5.pac using brawl box...so I did so. Still does not work. Both common5.pac and common5_en.pac don't work. This is really frustrating because I feel that I have exhausted every possible fix. I even tried using ocarina codes (no idea if I am doing that correct though). If there is a proper rsbe01.gct that I need to use with my riivolution orcarina codes to get it to work, that would be greatly appreciated! Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: Tempo_ on June 02, 2011, 10:18:31 PM Well for one thing, just because you use a moveset and a texture doesn't mean that the game magically knows to create a new picture for the character; you'll have to create and insert the image into char_bust_tex_lz77 yourself. Just using a sc_selchar or common5 won't be enough.
Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: W4ss3r on June 02, 2011, 10:26:46 PM Thanks for the reply! I did edit it though, using brawl box. When I am in a game, I actually am shadow, and my portrait in the winner / loser screen is shadow too. It's just in the character selection screen that I only see sonic.
Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: Tempo_ on June 02, 2011, 11:14:58 PM Well, use BrawlBox to open char_bust_tex_lz77. Then, look through the MiscData until you find Sonic, then replace those pictures with portraits you want. Save it, then replace the char_bust_tex_lz77 in sc_selchar and common5.
Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: W4ss3r on June 02, 2011, 11:32:01 PM Thanks for trying to help.
I did all that though....No luck. I think it's some riivolution issue. It works when I load it using gecko OS, but, gecko OS can't load custom shadow sounds. =[ Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: TruePhilosopher on June 02, 2011, 11:44:42 PM In your menu folder create a folder called common. In the common folder create a folder called char_bust_tex.
In char_bust_tex you will put your MenSelchrFace.brres file. Play the game and enjoy. Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: W4ss3r on June 03, 2011, 12:14:56 AM I have that too.....
I'm almost positive it's a riivolution issue; I just don't know what nor how to fix this. Is there any program I can use to open the brres file to check if it's the right one? It came with the shadow mod I downloaded though, so it should be correct. Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: TruePhilosopher on June 03, 2011, 12:33:27 AM I use BeyondYou's Riivo and mine works fine. I replaced Sephiroth over ROB the other day

Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: Tempo_ on June 03, 2011, 07:26:44 AM Oh, you were using Riivolution.
... You needed to set it up a certain way so it read files almost in the same way as Phantom Wings's File Patch Code. But looks like you have your solution now. Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: TheHatMan on June 03, 2011, 09:40:43 AM With regards, whatever XML you use, you must place the files in the proper spot on your SD. Other wise, it won't work altogether
Title: Re: Character portrait help! Post by: W4ss3r on June 04, 2011, 03:13:02 PM Ok, so, for the past two days I have been doing a lot of experimenting. The problem was that my common5.pac would always crash my wii when I had a proper xml. This led me to use some random xml for riivolution from the depths of the internet. In any case, I have narrowed down the problem.
http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=2369&Moderated=All&facebook=true I downloaded this. I followed the directions the best I could, and I don't think I made any mistakes. The heart of this problem is when I put MiscData[46].brres into Common5.pac, my wii crashes as soon as I am about to enter character select screen. I have EVERYTHING else working. I also tried this on my friend's wii. Can anyone give me any insight now that I know what the issue is? Edit:: Solved! It turns out that the MiscData[46].brres I was using was bad..I put my own pictures in and it worked great. It's strange though. The MiscData[46].brres I used worked wonderfully with gecko OS, but it crashed when loaded with riivolution. Anyways, thanks everyone! |
