Title: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: SiLeNtDo0m on June 27, 2011, 02:06:33 PM No poll, mainly because unlike the PSA one, I honestly don't know why people don't animate (or at least attempt it). The only reason that I can think of is that in order to bring out an animation's full potential, you need to do some PSA work, but even then you can do stuff like Tormod and his MJ dance, or Kit and her Caramellbrawl.
Honestly, animating is not hard to learn at all. It only requires one or two tutorials and the ability to move a ball around with the mouse. Not to mention it's the only form of hacking that only requires ONE PROGRAM. Sure making good animations takes an innate skill, but so does every form of hacking. Not to mention that animating is definitely something that you get better at as you do more of it. Like many forms of art, you learn tricks as you go along. This doesn't just apply to Brawlbox animating, but EVERY kind of animating. There should be more animators :P It's fun and not hard to get into. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: ForOhFor Error on June 27, 2011, 02:11:50 PM It's a daunting task...
Pluss, it's difficult not to make stuff look too, well, stiff and robotic. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: DrPanda on June 27, 2011, 02:15:39 PM On a 3d Plain, I suck at animating, so I only really alter stuff for presentation (Like I did for Ragna and Hazama) ^-^
And I suppose it does take an awfully long time to get a good, clean and flawless animation :-\ Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: KingJigglypuff on June 27, 2011, 02:19:12 PM I can somewhat animate. But some of those were just edited Brawl animations.
Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: BlackJax96 on June 27, 2011, 02:19:29 PM I freaking love animating :srs:
I started animating as soon as I started Nel, before the rotation orbs came out. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? I figured out quite a few to make animating faster and more efficient whilst them still looking half decent. Maybe I'll make a guide showing my personal tips and tricks. But then again, half the fun about animating is adopting your own style. I freaking love animating :srs: I started animating as soon as I started Nel, before the rotation orbs came out. Yeah my first animations for Viewtiful Joe were in the older versions of Brawlbox. That was when it was painfully time consuming @.@ Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Roo on June 27, 2011, 02:27:48 PM Yeah, we're a rare breed. I love doing it, no matter if it's the new rotation method with 0.64 or the older ones.
The only thing is, Animations are very difficult to actually make work in-game. The only reasons one would animate would be for imports or PSA, and we already know how the people feel about PSA. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Albafika on June 27, 2011, 02:33:38 PM I know many animators have quit 'cause, in the end, they wanted to make a PSA, and since they can't find the time to learn PSA'ing, they seeked for PSA assistance on their projects and didn't find it.
An example of this is Kit. She gave up her Tifa PSA 'cause of this. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Eternal Yoshi on June 27, 2011, 02:38:17 PM It's a daunting task... Pluss, it's difficult not to make stuff look too, well, stiff and robotic. Yup. It takes a lot of time to do. And patience, which is something most gaming and hacking communities don't have. Since I had a lot of time, I learned by playing around with BB myself. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: KingJigglypuff on June 27, 2011, 02:39:28 PM Well...I could see if I can get better at animating.
I know many animators have quit 'cause, in the end, they wanted to make a PSA, and since they can't find the time to learn PSA'ing, they seeked for PSA assistance on their projects and didn't find it. -_- I have some blame too. I was helping Kit with Tifa, but then my computer had a problem. An example of this is Kit. She gave up her Tifa PSA 'cause of this. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Albafika on June 27, 2011, 07:15:50 PM -_- I have some blame too. I was helping Kit with Tifa, but then my computer had a problem. Just in case, no one's blaming you, I was just sayin'. This has also happened to less known animators, 2, if I recall correctly. I just hope Kit finds the enthusiasm to attempt to animate again, she was really decent at it.Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: songeflemy on June 27, 2011, 07:20:13 PM I once made Marth three claw moves for a Vertex, it took me 4 months to do, since I had the old Brawlbox and a lot less motivation.
It died with my computer. And thus I never animated again. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: _Data_Drain_ on June 27, 2011, 07:33:25 PM Well, I'll tell you why... Yes, it is indeed easy to animate, however, making a whole move set takes a lot of time, and making it look good takes longer, heck, even you recycled animations from Ike to make Cloud...
But yeah, bottom line, standards are set very high, plus... What good is say... One idle pose? That's all I can seem to make, but it wouldn't do much good to have without more to accompany it. Plus, as Cloudy said, people find it useless without a PSA to go with it, heck, there's some people who are halted with their progress, like MarioKing, he made almost EVERY ANIMATION FROM SCRATCH for Waluigi, yet no one is willing to help him out with the PSA... That's disappointing, so why bother animating, if no one is willing to help you out with a PSA? Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: JDub on June 27, 2011, 08:03:27 PM Personally, I enjoy animating. To me, it's only daunting task to get fixing those damn translations.
Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: ??_? on June 27, 2011, 08:37:55 PM Its probably less popular because its painstaking and brawlbox doesn't interpolate well. At least thats how I feel.
Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Gamma Ridley on June 27, 2011, 08:41:55 PM I've always thought animating was the easiest type of "hacking..." @_@
So I'm just as perplexed as you are. Animating is basically the only kind of hacking I'm "good" at... I should proud to be among a rare breed, I suppose. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Eternal Yoshi on June 27, 2011, 09:04:01 PM Yes you should, and that BB interpolating is not very good though it is accurate to what is going to show up in game.
Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Angelglory on June 28, 2011, 02:52:38 AM I mainly make animations for machinima purposes, if you watch any of Virtual Smash's brawl machinima, odds are you've seen at least one of my animations(most likely Ike since his 'machinima' animations are all finished.)
In my own machinima, Tales of Advent, I use animations to make the characters seem more natural. I love making animations, but aside from machinima-use, the only other thing I have to animate is Ridley to make him a playable character and he's got a TON of bones so it's extra work to make him more naturally. (Since I'm just working by myself and I'm focusing on machinima mostly, he's being neglected.) Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Didn't know that........ check the Workshop center thing please. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Puraidou on June 28, 2011, 07:49:43 AM ^Here's the link so AngelGlory can go there: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=21518.0

Ooooohhhh, sorry ^^"Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: IWasAPerson on June 28, 2011, 09:01:55 AM Personally, animating's a lot of fun. You definitely need some time to sit down and do it though, but if you can get a good couple of hours it's pretty fun to make a few animations. I'd say the reason that I don't animate more or actually release anything is because Brawlbox's interpolation is terrible. I can never seem to get it to do what I want it to When I change it to make the interpolation better the animation is a lot worse. And because I'm a perfectionist, I usually start hating my animations when I have to compensate for the bad interpolation.
That and having a concrete project helps motivate you a lot. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Naruto200Man on June 28, 2011, 10:30:40 AM Yeah, like my specials for Kakashi.
I have (and still do) planned on making him do the various forms of Raikari for his specials. Except the side B which is Kakeyo No Jutsu (Or whatever the name for 'fireball jutsu' is, the normal one) Animating is apain when the fingers rotate like hell all glitchy like, especially the ox handseal, seriously, took me hours just to get him doing the ox seal and have it look like in the show... and there's eight more seals after that (Seven if you don't count the additional not-seal handseal at the end like I do for chidori) yeah....reall hurtful on motivation. Especially when nobodies interested cause apparently someones already doing it =_=; Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Angelglory on June 28, 2011, 12:36:42 PM You still are working on him? Yeah I still am, just never said anything because so little has been done because of animations and being a one-man project. Ridley's still very much in alpha stages.Didn't know that........ check the Workshop center thing please. Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Eternal Yoshi on June 28, 2011, 01:04:33 PM I can repair hurtboxes and bonerefs if you want.

Post by: Mansta8 on June 28, 2011, 01:51:36 PM I "sort of" animate. I make small changes to brawl animations to make them look completely different, I believe my latest build of the luigi animations I made has a side taunt that is an example of this.
Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: Ultraxwing on June 28, 2011, 04:33:39 PM I animate.
but because i don't own my own computer. i have to find a window. i'm still working on my Ryu Project. but it might go over Ike seeing how the vertex on him is better. i've only made 25 anim's for him so far. Animating is a daunting task. but it's not the hardest like PSA. PSA is very confusing if you have no coding no how. i have "some" (if game maker, and LUA count) Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators? Post by: CaptN CeeGee on June 28, 2011, 04:48:05 PM -Animating in BrawlBox is slow
-Animating with the rotator orbs is annoying because the rotations can jump to very high values for no reason. -Animating in Brawlbox with textboxes is even more slow. -Brawlbox doesnt have IK Title: Re: Why are there not enough animators?
