Title: help: Model exporting for nefarious uses
Post by: flatzoneseeker on September 06, 2011, 09:13:09 AM
So I followed the vertexing tutorial on Flatzone 2 and got as far as extracting _GAME_WATCH_BODY.mdl0, now I want to take the whole thing and turn it into something openable on blender, or 3dsmax, preferably blender.
AIS just doesn't work when I try and use the .pac file on it, the dos window opens for a fraction of a second, and where I've seen in tutorials a file created, there is nothing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns1SGo3WCF4&feature=player_detailpage#t=54s).

See, I'm working on a silly video project and it sure would be swell if I could get my hands on a 3D model of a game & watch, and as far as I can tell, the Brawl version of the stage is far more accessible than files from Melee, and as (bad) luck would have it, Brawl wasn't nice enough to have a trophy of a game & watch like Melee did.

If I could get a hand (or a model, but beggars can't be choosers), I would be incredibly grateful and give you credit in my project. Also gratitude, and really, what better repayment is there than gratitude?  :af2:

Download the program brress viewer and open up Flatzones .pac and exort it as an .obj.

I... didn't even know brres viewer could do that...
I don't have a version that opens .pac files, but I used it on the brres and the obj opened in blender. I'm wondering if I could use it on the pac if it would load the textures, but I might just have to use one of those blender texture test tutorials on youtube

Also, thank you for your help

Edit: Also, here's a quick render, showing the beautiful thing in question :'D

Oh, and try to avoid double posting. Shoulda mentioned that.

Also, if vertexing doesn't work out, you can always make a 3D "Flat Zone" yourself using the Bilder Block Method.

Ok, carry on. Good luck! ^_^'

Thanks! I added it into the previous comment, sorry about that.

Edit: as well, what exactly is the bilder block method? Or do you just mean to make it from scratch with Blender?
This all is so foreign to me!

By "block method," he means building it with stage builder blocks and other models.

It was an idea that was popularized by Mewtwo2000.

Thanks for the tips!
I don't think I need to go to such extreme measures as that, I think I just need to export the necessary texture filesand apply them to each mesh individually.

I don't suppose anyone knows how to extract the data from Melee, in case I need the original flat zone or trophy?
