Title: dual layer disk error (it has happened)
Post by: DarkPikachu on October 31, 2011, 07:33:03 AM
yes, I too am victim to the lowly error, and my wii can no longer read brawl... -.-*
or can it??

the error happened to me just a few weeks after installing IOS58 which is the USB2.0 driver to allow my flash drive to be used with WiiXplorer...

I say a few weeks because I had to use a friend's brawl disk (that used to work on my wii) to figure it out...
I've tried about 3 brawl disks before coming to a final conclusion...

so I'm thinking IOS58 had to've caused the error as I havn't installed anything else...
so what if I remove the IOS??
will that restore brawl readability??

I'll have to experiment with my wii to figure it out... >_>

I'm thinking IOS58 may be interfering with IOS249 and replacing DLD readability with USB2.0 readability...

IOS58 shouldn't have anything to do with disc-loading.
Your problem, however, might be a dirty disc-lens. If it can load single-layer discs, but not dual-layer discs, then I think you'll have to buy a cleaning kit:

alright...
I've cleaned my lense before
(ripped apart my wii)

I guess I could try that... >_>

It's a common problem, but when I had this problem, I didn't know how to fix it, so I ended up sending the wii to Nintendo (twice or three times >.< ).

I'd rather risk destroying my wii :|

I've done waaaay too much to it to have nintendo wipe it D:

Yeah, but the first time the wii wasn't modded, and the second time I simply uninstalled HBC and Bootmii...but the thing is that it's expensive to send it in for repair :/

heh...
if I ever did send it to nintendo,
I'd have to delete and repair quite a few IOS's and uninstall about 5 channels,
and remove any other remnances that may be festering in my wii...

I've got alot against me other than the screws being broken on my wii...
but even with all that, it was still able to read brawl >_>

so you may be right on just a dirty lense... heh

I actually tried to get my Wii repaired when its disc drive began to act up.  However, Nintendo refuses to repair Wiis that have touched any Homebrew applications.

In other words, if you want your Wii repaired, NEVER use Homebrew.

yes

actually...
at the time I was thinking it was an IOS causing the error...
thus I was thinking of getting some referral to something useful

so at the time, it was right >_>
of course, it's not now <_<

You might wanna replace your Wii Lens. Mine had been dead for about 8 months and just this Saturday I replaced it myself and it works like a charm.
