My idea is to model parts (tops, bottoms, shoes, gloves, weapons, heads, hair, and accessories) and distribute them to be placed together and rigged. They'll be done by body types like marth, link, pit, zelda, etc.
the models will be distributed as a .dae in an .rar with its corresponding texture. the models within the .dae will be placed it its correct position within world space(so a shirt will be floating in its position, instead of at 0,0,0)
Its completely possible, my only question is about the max polycount. IS there one? if so, how do i find it/them. I'm looking forward to starting this project.
Any other experienced modelers are welcome to join the project.

Alright, now that all that messy business is sorted out, I would like to wish you the best of luck on this. It would be nice to spruce up existing characters with accessories and the like.
As far as the polycount... there is a limit, but I don't remember the exact number. /:
thanks. once i figure it out, it should be smooth sailing.
So wait. You're saying that you'll take one specific body part, then rig it to one specific bone, right?
Then you can take a base boneset, then import a bunch of body parts prerigged to a certain bone(or bones.) so you can make a custom(ish) character, right?
Or is it more like an Accessory adder? Because that's cool too.
Either way, I support this! Count me in if you need some body part submissions!
Yes, the first one. though, we can do accessories for pre-existing characters also. I need as much help as I could get. we should start with concepts.
Alright! Would you like some drawings? Or will just ideas do?
Also, will all of this be simply original, or will you add accessories and the like found online?
Drawings or ideas will do. I'd like for it all to be original. but you can use stuff online for reference, just not ripped pieces from other models. But, you can modify parts already in brawl.
Sigh.....my team is making a Mii creator, but this is awesome bcuz ithe characters will look kewl!
oh? then best of luck to your team!
Thanks! We recently released Roxas! :D
Alright then. How about a few sets of civilian clothes for, say....
Pit? Is that good?
You guys know what? This is EXACTLY what I do to get T-stanced models. As a result, the shoulders are often odd-looking, but who cares? As long as the model is good and plays fine, then everything is OK.
 I wondered what happened to this. It was missing in action this morning. This sounds great.
I'm sure everything will turn out fantastic with the tools available. Totally probable and possible ;)
◕ ヮ ◕ full support. Best of luck in this endeavor
I actually had this idea early last week. I made an attempt to attach Kirby's Plasma hat (from the trophy) to a green Kirby. I failed spectacularly at it, but its definitely something that can be done now. :)
Pits base model is done, uving soon.

We're going to have to sacrifice facial expressions for space, hope you'all are ok with that.
Looks great! Sounds fine!
Is there going to just be one texture for the entire body? Or will there be multiple parts for multiple textures?
Thanks, each part will have its own texture.
Cool with that! :D
Is Marth gonna be one of em?
Facial expressions can't be seen most the time anyway XD
Also, +1 for Marth, and looks good thus far~

I think that if he does do marth, he should take out his girly tiarra....
Marth has the tiara for the reason, if you don't know what it is, you should probably try and find out :P
Marth will be done. His tiara counts as an accessory, so it wont be included in the base model.
wait, so, u are sayin i could, liek take sonic's arms body and everyhting, put it together, then add link's hat and sword? is that basically what you are doing? if so, i support this fully

Well you can already do that with the Importing.
I believe what he's doing will be kind of like this, http://www.charactercreator.net/anime-character-creator.html

Yeah, thats what i meant. The bases themselves are supposed to resemble a character. The tiarra is like Marths signature accessory
so wait basically you are taking body parts of every character
isolating body parts and making "equips" for them. you'all will have a better understanding when i'm done with Pit.
btw, Start posting your favorite weapon, clothing, armor, + designs from games you've played/like. we need to start concepts. Or post your own concepts if you want us to use them.
you should do Helmet-less Samus over zero suit samus :P

I strongly approve of this.
But over normal Samus instead.

Favorite designs you say?
I'll post a few designs I guess.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I'll try to come up with some other designs later, just thought I'd post some of the cool and original ones I've seen.
Also you could looks at the soul calibur character creator for more ideas.

maybe both?
<o< Could you use the MDL0's from MH3 as base ideas for some designs?
http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Gunner_Armors%2B
The gunner armors look better than blade IMO which is why its that link XD It wouldn't hurt to check out designs from other armors that were in other MH games :3 Those games also work in a similar layout that you pointed out in the OP so idk why I pointed out the obvious =P

im in on this... i have body models of SC4 "Create a Character" (both male and female) that ppl can use as a base
Admittedly, I probably wouldn't be able to help out with any of this, but I highly approve of it. Just the thought of being able to mix and match clothing and other accessories is just mindblowing, especially in terms of SSB!
I wish you guys the best of luck on this project, and hope it gets to see the light of day.

They'll be useful, but we wouldn't be able to use them as bases because of file size. Welcome to the team

true true.. but once i learn how to lower the polycount, then they'll be useful
You could look to the various Mega Man and Robotech games for robo-style custom parts. Oh, and Custom Robo and Gundam are givens :3
Can we do Mix-And-Match parts for the N64 Custom Robos?
That was my next personal project anyway.
I hope these are some cool references too consider.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Also, will skin changing be an option in this character creator?
I agree with DSX8's comment. Having a standard muscular male and female base is essential. Pit can be used for younger custom characters
pit isn't the only base
I uploaded the accessories from Castlevania Judgement a while back, maybe they could be of use? http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=18184 I haven't gotten them to work in game though, but then again I haven't really been able to put that much time into it....but either way good luck with this, I can't wait to see Marth :O
so what your saying in the Op is that you want make a character creator using already made parts then be able to put them on a character in brawlbox without it messing up right
(i think)
Nice idea
It this like a application to create a character, choose costume and to place in the sd ? easily
Maybe some DBZ clothing?
I can't help with this, as I don't really know how... But I full support this project!

Good references you guys.
I've always like the concept of customizing your character in game so i have to say that i support this project 100%. This project is ahead of its time literaly cause apperently, nintendo considered making a Character Creator for SSB4 XD . Anyway good luck with this project also will the Base model of the chacter will include baldness, it would be nice !
I support this all the way =3
can't wait to make some awesome Peach stuffz =3
oh and i believe the poly limit is around 20K (that's the limit i would set up) maybe 25K. no more than than in my opinion.
i make models, (nothing good unless 8 months is put into it) and 26K with 4 of the same model on screen causes slight lag =/
Just to let you guys know i'm still alive. I'm juggling this project with school... that and i bought a few new games >.>

That reminds me of the descender's outfit from Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology.
Also, you should use things from Kirby's copy abilities? Some provide hair Like Marth and Ike, but characters like Link/Peach/Mario only give Kirby hats. or extract Marth's Tiara or Ike's Bandana to use as well. So you could use those for your customization. And also articles of swords/bows/weapons as well.
Just some suggestions.
Intresting. Can't wait to see this finished.
Don't know that you could spruce up the face a bit; to make pit look a little less.... gay?
Since model importion has came out, there has been less vertexes. (Obviously)
Never once have I used a vertex for pit. Because frequently he will have his pompous lips, and chibi/girl eyes still.
This is a amazing Idea I actaul did something like this and put zero suits body on our Rikku :)
Make Pit Like This XD

Sounds cool. shouldn't we have miis? It would be cool to assemble your mii in 3ds max, then take it to brawl. Personally, some miis suit characters like Mario, Luigi, Toon Link, Ness, and Lucas.
