Title: Kagato's Moonlight Battlefield *Completed - Download available* Post by: Kagato on June 30, 2009, 05:51:52 PM Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PCG89IBA
This is a project I worked on today. I wanted Battlefield to be darker and more Final Destination-ish. The only problem I'm having is changing the sky. The skyBG file is just a simple white-to-black gradient and whenever I try to use an image file instead, the file size is too big (even though the file remains the same size as before). Any tips on how to edit the sky? Anyway, here's what I have so far: (http://imgshack.info/images/g6wiwsuoni156l3hqj6.jpg) (http://imgshack.info/images/i0358kjpekb59tfnzsi5.jpg) Updates (7/8/09): I have finished most of the texture. I just need critiques and suggestions at this point. But this is what I did: I added a new sky. It's a starry night sky, so the map is pretty much in perpetual night. However, i can't stop the daylight changes at all, so while nighttime looks great, daytime looks like a very bright evening. So to remedy that, I added a big moon, akin to the Luigi's mansion map, so that way, during the bright daytime, it'll look like the light in the background is from the moon. This way it doesn't look so random. The best part is, aside from the moon moving position every now and then due to the changes in time, the moon is seen through the whole cycle and changes depending on the day as well, and each time of day makes it look as nice as ever. I'll let you see for yourself. Time order: Morning, Noon, Sunset, Midnight. All that's left are for you all to critique and let me know if you want any changes! I also fixed the platform colors to match the bottom area! I would suggest maybe stealing some textures from Final Destination if you want it to have a more FD look. Love the colors though!
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: darthmouse on July 01, 2009, 07:24:51 AM Really nice. The sparkly circle thing on the ground fits in well with the rock/gem look.
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Kagato on July 02, 2009, 11:55:27 AM Thanks.
I'm debating wheter or not to change the platform texture. It seemed cool at first but something doesn't sit right with me. Also, I really want to change that sky. >.< Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Tyeforce on July 02, 2009, 01:08:28 PM Looks nice. You're Kagato from VGD, aren't you? Long time no see.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the finished stage and a download. =) Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Aaron20b on July 02, 2009, 01:34:25 PM I don't even see it....
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: eisley on July 03, 2009, 12:25:05 AM maybe take that pattern on the ground of the stage and reproduce on a smaller scale on the platforms if the diamond shape look you have doesn't suit you. :P
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Kagato on July 04, 2009, 04:25:14 PM I suppose I can do that. It might look better.
So, does anyone here know how to change the sky? Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: GNKyrios on July 04, 2009, 05:52:39 PM nice, most battlefield textues arent soo good
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Kagato on July 05, 2009, 01:04:09 PM Thanks. Yeah I wanted to make a battlefield that would be more commonly used.

Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Kagato on July 07, 2009, 07:52:35 PM Yeah. I'm finished with everything else. I just need to figure out how to edit the sky and perhaps the water as well, and then I can release it.

Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture Post by: Kagato on July 08, 2009, 10:46:40 AM Good news, everyone! </Farnsworth>
With a little help from another part of the boards here, I learned how to edit the sky. Since I can only do black-and-white for the sky, the colors from the daytime-to-night lightning is still active. However, it just makes the white stars that I have go from bright white to a more eerie red color, which actually looks pretty cool. Still, since it's supposed to be a darker version of Battlefield, let me show you guys just how the place looks at high noon. (http://imgshack.info/images/060oybg31n0q7q2c6gty.jpg) I still plan on doing something with the water and maybe the clouds as well. The platforms might get a change too. Other than that, any critiques and suggestions are welcomed. Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture *Updated 7/8/09* Post by: shinato91 on July 08, 2009, 07:03:04 PM I don't really like the platforms and you should try doing something with the sun clock, and for god's sake don't erase the moon, it looks very badass, I can't wait for the release!

Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture *Updated 7/9/09* Post by: DrBanxon on July 11, 2009, 02:28:09 PM I LOVE it. This is probably my favorite stage texture I've seen. DL please :D
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture *Updated 7/9/09* Post by: darkshadow7827 on July 12, 2009, 01:51:57 PM There's not many stage textures I like. Most of them are just weird recolors and don't look like anything. This is the first stage texture I actually want, haha. It reminds of the stage "moonlite wilderness" (or something like that) from Tekken 4 or 5. The moon, the platforms, the stars in the BG make it look like an epic place for a battle. It'll probably make me use battlefield all the time haha. I'm definitely gonna keep track of you :)
Title: Re: Kagato's Battlefield Texture *Updated 7/9/09* Post by: dally on July 12, 2009, 03:23:00 PM ...did you figure out how to change the sky texture? I am also working on a BattleField texture and was wondering how to edit the sky :P

I am also working on a BattleField texture and was wondering how to edit the sky :P On the SkyBG file (the white-to-black gradient picture), you can replace the picture with anything you want, but it needs to be black-and-white. We're talking solid black (#00000) and solid white (#FFFFF) and the levels in-between. If there is an error, it means it's not black-and-white enough. Play with the black and white levels in photoshop. And remember, black shows up. White does not, so if you have a stary sky, the stars need to be black and outer space needs to be white. The easiest way to do that is simply to Invert the picture.
