Title: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on December 08, 2012, 11:25:42 PM

SAHunterMech here, long-time fan, first-time modder.

I recently got PSA working in a wineskin on my mac... I tested it out with a quick change (I just increased damages), and it works great. I have that app and BrawlBox in a hybrid wineskin; should I bother to post a mediafire link for it?

UPDATE: Please go here for the current version of BrawlBox/PSA for Mac. (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=54522.msg1169352#msg1169352)

First of all...Hiya Welcome to the forums ;D

Well this should go on programming.

Looks like a mod already moved it. Anyway, maybe I'll just post the link as soon as I can upload the Wineskin to mediafire, and we'll see if there's any fellow mac users out there.

Could be useful when I want to Brawl Hack in Info Tech Class...

Also, Welcome!

Here it is. (http://www.mediafire.com/?1jzqz12bs8e87)

Sorry it took so long; I've been busy lately, working on some promising new mods.

BrawlBox and PSA are contained in this one app. To switch between them, simply hold option while double clicking on the app, click 'Advanced', and browse to the windows .exe of your choice, both of which are in 'Program Files'.

Also, there's a glitch that causes a crash whenever you go into the model editor in BrawlBox. If anyone can show me how to fix this in Wineskin, that would be great.

Edit: Looks like the link I posted somehow reverted to just one of the 3 parts of the file; I fixed it so it shows the whole folder.

Sorry to hear that; I always seem to have trouble with MediaFire.

I have triple checked the replacement files; they're uploading now, same link. Again, I apologize for this.

EDIT: Finally. It's Ready. (http://www.mediafire.com/?1jzqz12bs8e87).

How do I use Wineskins? I'm new to this... enlighten me... lol

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on January 29, 2013, 09:17:52 PM
First off... I assume you put together the 8 parts already, yes?

Anyway... a Wineskin is just a 'wrapper' around a Windows application that runs Natively on your mac, as if it was a mac application. BrawlBox and PSA are contained in this one app. To switch between them, simply hold option while double clicking on the app, click 'Advanced', and browse to the windows .exe of your choice, both of which are in 'Program Files'.

After you've chosen the .exe, exit out of the Wineskin menu and just double click on the app. It will take a minute to load, but it should work.

even I find this interesting...
and I HATE Apple :srs:
(Apple: Derp... what does 'expandable' mean?)

could this essentially work for any windows exe,
or would it be too complex??

either way... congrats ;)

Well, essentially, yes, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Cross-platform limitations and all. Still, out of all the programs I've tried putting a Wineskin over, only about 5% of them have refused to work.

In terms of complexity, 90% of the time it's just a drag-and-drop effort (I mean, you still have to install any extras like DirectX you need on Windows, but it's the same amount of effort on either platform), and 10% of the time you get some technical trouble... but really, only 1% of the time is this trouble Mac-Only.

that's quite a low percentage rate for problems.
very nice :D

I'll definatly consider using this if I ever find myself on a mac ;)

The only downside to Wineskin is that getting help with anything is... difficult to say the least. It's sort of a self-taught experience. There isn't really a proper manual anywhere that I know of. Kind of a shame.

The files won't load in mediafire. No matter how long how long I have "My Files" open,  they just... don't appear.

That's odd... I've just checked the link myself and it's perfectly fine. I made sure to log out of my MediaFire account too.

Maybe try another browser?

Mac user here- it seems the downlaod only has 7 files, yet you say there are 8 :\

Never used wineskin before, but its telling me there are no .exe to even wrap. May I ask for assistance? :o

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on August 05, 2013, 10:11:22 AM
Sure thing. Nice to see another mac user on the forums...

So, first off, when I said 8 files, that was just a mistake; my bad. Second, did you get all the files to download without any trouble? Third, did you concatenate them with 'Split and Concat'?

Assuming you did all that, and you successfully got the BrawlBox application out of it, if the program isn't working when you open it, just double click on it while holding option. Then, click 'Advanced' in the resulting menu. In the Advanced settings, at the top, click on the 'Browse' button next to 'Windows EXE'.

From there, Wineskin should send you to drive C, and you will be able to see the BrawlBox and ProjectSmash attacks folders. All you have to do is navigate to the .exe of your choice, choose it, and quit the program. Upon reopening it, it should open up BrawlBox/PSA.

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: Son of Kratos on August 05, 2013, 04:00:05 PM
You lost me at "concatenate them with split and concat" :\

Sorry to be a bother, but could you explain?

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on August 05, 2013, 05:31:14 PM
Not a problem. This is Split and Concat; download it. (http://loekjehe.home.xs4all.nl/Split&Concat/)
After you get it up and running, make sure you put all the downloaded parts into a folder, by themselves. Then, select 'Concat', and select the first part (001). It should assemble it into the application for you.

As for the actual explanation, the reason I split one app into 8 parts is because a free Mediafire account only allows files with size up to 100MB. Past that, you have to pay for it. Concatenation is just the fancy word used for putting the pieces of a split file together.

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: Son of Kratos on August 05, 2013, 07:40:12 PM
downloaded the Concat program, and managed ot get the .zip out of it.

when I go to extract, it seems to get stuck at 99%.. not sure what to take from that :s Will attempt to just open the file without extracting and such.

Post Merge: August 05, 2013, 08:09:46 PM
Alright, got the Brawlbox app out of it, when trying to open it just cancels out of itself.

tried holding option when double clicking, but it doesnt bring up a menu or anything :s

Post Merge: August 05, 2013, 09:00:56 PM
Got around THAT problem, haha.

I am now at the same problem that I ran into through another method- I get brawlbox up and running fine, and can open up .pac files like.. a texture hack I downloaded, but when it comes to trying to open the common5.pac that I need to open in order to replace CSP files, I get an error message. :\

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on August 06, 2013, 12:29:55 PM
Good to hear the program is working for you... mostly, anyway.

At this point, I'm not too sure. I can open up common5 without any hassle on my end; if I may, what sort of error message do you get when you open it?

You're not going to believe this.

Okay, so, when I first made this thing, I had to use an earlier version of BrawlBox (0.67b), because the latest build (0.68d) needs the .NET Framework 4.0, and suffice to say, Wine and .NET 4.0 do NOT want to get along. Ever. You can't even launch the installer for that thing. Hell, .NET 3.5 barely works. Hence, the crashing you got.

But I just tested 0.68d with a Wineskin wrapper out of the box, nothing installed, and it works perfectly. Hopefully, when I upload it today, and you download it (fingers crossed, MediaFire), those stupid bugs will go away.

Those Wine programmers are truly amazing. I never thought .NET would ever work in a million years, but now it seems to be working flawlessly. All I had to do was wait for Wine to be developed for a few months.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your help. Perhaps sometime we will have to play together, us Mac users have to stick together ;D

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac

Definitely.

Edit: DAMN! I'm now getting that same error myself. Only happens with common.pac files, yadda yadda. Gotta figure out how to fix this. Might take a while.

Post Merge: August 09, 2013, 08:23:03 PM
Bad news... I've identified the problem, and it doesn't look good. Turns out, there's a newer version of the .NET framework: 4.5. And it doesn't work in Wine, surprising no one. I'm going to ask around on the forum, but right now it looks like what I've uploaded is the best option for us Mac users. It's the only build that can open any type of file.

I suspect your problem is due to the fact that, as you said, the file didn't concatenate all the way. If you could let your computer just sit for a few hours or something, see if it finishes 100%, it might clear up your error.

Well, I got around teh 99% problem by trying another program to unzip, o: so idk, maybe maybe not.

should I maybe be using an older version of Wine or something to that effect?

I've managed to get all 7 parts concated and I unzipped the BrawlBox.7z data. After that I got the BrawlBox WineSkin app. I double click it and nothing happens so I held option + double click Here I get Install Software, Set Screen Options, Advanced, and Quit. I try installing it to a setup .exe to the C Drive but I get this "Oops! No new executable found! Maybe the installer failed...?" So maybe I didn't install it properly to C Drive?
I'm pretty new to this wineskin stuff too so any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys

Good news, everyone!

I've managed to find a way to get the CURRENT (0.68d) version of BrawlBox running flawlessly on my Mac. Keep in mind, this wrapper is someone else's hard work, not mine. As such, I am not uploading it myself, but rather redirecting you to a link. So far as I know, you can use this wrapper to run ANY .NET 4.0 apps in Wine.

Here's what you have to do:

1. Download all 4 parts of this (giant) wrapper from this link (http://portingteam.com/files/file/7848-microsoft-net-40-full/). You'll have to make a new account on portingteam.com to be able to download it.

2. Download 'Split and Concat' (http://loekjehe.home.xs4all.nl/Split&Concat/)

3. Once you've got all 4 parts, put them in a folder, separate from everything else.

4. Open up Split and Concat, choose 'concat', and select the FIRST PART (.001)

5. You should get a disk image. Mount it, and drag the resulting app to the desktop.

6. Download the latest version of BrawlBox (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=32721).

7. Right-Click (aka Control-Click) on the .NET 4.0 app, and select 'Show Package Contents'.

8. Place your downloaded 'BrawlBox 0.68d' folder into "drive_c--->program files."

9. Hold option and open the .NET 4.0 app. Select 'Advanced'.

10. At the top, look for 'Windows .EXE', browse, navigate to the BrawlBox executable, and press 'Choose'.

11. If the icon doesn't suit your fancy, you can change it here as well.

12. Quit Wineskin, and open up the .NET 4.0 app (don't hold option); Voila.

If you want to use PSA (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=17599), just repeat steps 7-12, but with the PSA app folder. Afterwards, you'll have to hold option whilst opening the app every time you want to switch the .exe.

Yeah, you'll have to make a new account on portingteam.com, unfortunately. That's what it's telling you to do, right?

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: Son of Kratos on August 17, 2013, 08:09:40 AM
"an internal error occured, please contact an administrator" was the message recieved, even after making a whole new account. :s

Any chance you could just upload them yourself?

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on August 17, 2013, 02:18:14 PM
The wrapper size is 1 GB, at least... it would take me a while to upload it, 100MB at a time. That's not really ideal. I mean, I will continue to do what I have to to make this work, but I'm going to try some other options first. The download link is only 4 parts, btw.

I've changed the link in the post; hopefully it should work now (although you will still need an account).

Thanks for testing this out for me, though.

"Leons Kennedy voice"
 IT WORKED!

Thanks a bunch, sir. :) You have helped me, and any other mac users a great amount. If able, maybe take those instructions to your OP for any people who might need them :D I can say personally everything works fine for me.

(Added a link to the current instructions in the OP.)

Not a problem. Happy to help out Mac users everywhere with this. The new version runs pretty smoothly, up to the point where I can actually see model previews and such. It's not perfect, but hopefully it will be good enough for the majority of the modding community that uses Macs (AKA You, me, and maybe 2-3 other people as of right now, heh heh).

Personally, I had a Doc Brown reaction when I got it working the first time:

"WHAT DID I TELL YOU! 88 MILES PER HOUR!"
"Jesus Christ Doc, you're running Windows on your Mac!"

Holy cow it does work!! Thank you so much!! You both have been a big help. I'm so stoked about this you don't even know. I was about to dual boot and install windows XP... haha Thank god I didn't go ahead and do that.

Now I'm a complete noob with Brawl Editor and PSA but I have 4 very specific characters I want to make. I know I've got a long road ahead of me haha It will take some time to figure it all out but at least I've actually got the tools do to so now. Thanks again to the both of you!

Hi - I originally made a thread for this, but when I saw this thread I just decided to remove it and post this here. It's a really good snapshot converter that works in WINE really well. There's one I've already put in a wrapper that once contained a BrawlBox that I got here:

http://www.smashboards.com/threads/brawlbox-and-css-organizer-for-mac.282415/ (http://www.smashboards.com/threads/brawlbox-and-css-organizer-for-mac.282415/)

And there's one that's just the .exe so you can put it in the wrapper that SAHunterMech found.

Already wrapped: https://www.dropbox.com/s/syed80mucju1483/Snapshot%20Converter.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/syed80mucju1483/Snapshot%20Converter.zip)

Just the .exe and .ini: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xlkx683vtdbgi6m/Convert.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/xlkx683vtdbgi6m/Convert.zip)

It works really well, and it's the only one I found that I managed to get working at all, so I hope it helps out!

I used to use a Windows. I still have one, in fact, in my sister's room, but God knows I can't go in THERE and use it - and they're so clunky! Seriously - once you go Mac, you don't go back. XD Lol

Also - another program now open to us with this is the Brawl Costume Manager, found here (http://stacksmash.kontek.net/?p=15781). It should prove to be incredibly useful, and I've already checked and confirmed that it works with the new wrapper.

I think we need a bit more info than that. Do you know why you can't put anything in there? Are you getting an error? Can you just not find it? Expand on what it is that you need. You may want to write down everything you did so we can see if something was done wrong, but that's just a suggestion.

Ok, I can open the Package contents of MS .NET 4.0 but it won't allow me to put any folders into the files. For example, I have Brawlbox, but when I drag the Brawlbox folder into the Folder "Program Files" it won't let me. It says I have custom access to the files, though.

Title: Re: BrawlBox/PSA for Mac
Post by: SAHunterMech on September 22, 2013, 08:23:39 AM
That's an easy fix. All you have to do is change the permissions of the file to make sure you have read and write access. That should do it.

Also, Mac Posse? Should we...like make our own handshake?

What? No one taught you the Mac Posse Handshake? We'll have to rectify that soon.

Bit more on topic: Does the new BrawlBox (0.69) disappear for anyone else when using the model previewer? It doesn't crash, per se, but it seems to just vanish as soon as the preview window opens. When I quit BrawlBox, it pops back up for a second before it actually closes. Other than that, it seems fine, although I haven't tested it that much yet.

EDIT: Hmm, strange... switching to another app then switching back seems to make it reappear with no problems. Very odd...
