Title: Proof of iso hacks
Post by: Soulman on October 04, 2013, 12:09:00 PM
Now I know a while back I asked in another thread about modding and creating an SSBB iso. Now everyone says that it couldn't be done, and as far as I tried it can't seeing as when I do the game freezes.

But... there is at least 1 or 2 hacked ssbb games as ISOs. And I would love to hunt those creators down and beg them for help?

Did someone say you couldn't? That was a lie, I assure you.

Modding your own ISO is the De Facto way to test your own hacks in Dolphin. It's what I do with my own personal copy, after all. IN FACT, you can actually de/rebuild your own using code modifiers. One of Mewtwo2000's tutorials teaches you how to build CBLISS right into the game itself.

In any case, yes, it's possible. I don't know who told you it wasn't, but they didn't tell you the truth.

Also, it's against the rules to link to ISOs. I'd recommend removing that link.

I told you and yet you didn't listen.

First... Iso link closed.

Second, everyone says mods only work with SD Cards and Gecko/Riivolution.

How do I do it w/o making my game freeze.

Well, you'd have to use a USB Loader, like USBLoaderGX or somesuch. But, if you want the whole list:
  • Accquire a Brawl ISO. Since you own the game (I'm assuming) use CleanRip or a USB loader to get yourself a WBFS file.
  • Use Wii Game Manager to convert that WBFS to an ISO.
  • Use WiiScrubber to import/replace files as you please.
  • Use Wii Game Manager to convert ISO to WBFS
  • Use a Backup Loader (like USBLoaderGX) to play said modified ISO.

You can't run these modified ISOs off your original disc. If you want to go all out and burn it onto a DVD or something, feel free. You won't be able to run that disc without hacks though.

I use usbloaderGX. I went into wiiscrubber and replaced all the files. and when I select my characters it freezes.
Should I convert it to WBFS before I put it on the manager? 'cuz I put it in the manager as an iso.

Which characters did you put in? Do they use .rels? Do you use PSAs? Do any of the aforementioned things use codes?

Pretty sure you're supposed to convert it to WBFS.

Can't help you much past this point, since I honestly don't use USBLoader for my Brawl.

I use characters like shadow and goku. some have .rels. and all, if not most, have PSAs. and a couple use codes. luckily USBLDRGX uses ocarina cheats.

Also does it matter which Wiiscrubber version I use, 'cuz I use v1.4?

but in any case thx anyways.

I'll resume it:

> With WiiScrubber, you'll be able to replace existing files in the ISO. Knowing this, this does not means you are not bound to codes, for example: If those .Rel hacks have codes, you will need to load them, so you are still bound to a SD Card/USB.

Yeah the loader automatically puts the cheats onto the SD Card. and I went in and put the codes in. the loader reads them.
But the codes aren't the problem!
I tried 3 different types of making a hacked iso and all 3 freeze on me either when I select Group Brawl or stage select. IDK how to fix this.

make sure every file is in the right place, also i would ditch wii scrubber. its dated and a bit buggy at times, i've had it cause corruption many times. also SCRUB IS NOT A SAVE BUTTON. i remember making that mistake when i first started. you shouldn't even need it for most tasks tbh.  just select the files to replace and close it.  however there are better tools around now. like wim's iso tools. i think mewtwo2000 has it on his vault. also keep in mind certain files need to be named differently in the iso (ex. common5.pac must be common5_en.pac) so make sure you check that. also some files take priority over others. like common5 takes over the sc_selchar/map files and certain characters have there animation files read from a different location (i think common 3 or 4 i don't remember) hope that helps

a little... I don't scrub, I just extract a partition and replace it.

I just replace the mods one by one. Works for me.

Alternatively, recompiling the ISO can also be done with Wii Backup Fusion, which I find to be far easier to use than WiiScubber, but to each their own :P

What I do is keep the extracted contents on m HDD at all times, replace the files I want to, then recompile with Wii Backup Fusion and test my hacks as I make them to ensure they're fully functional.  ;D

Here's my problem maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Process 1:
Step 1: open iso in Wiiscrubber 1.4 and "Save" Partition file
Step 2: copy and overwrite unmodded files w/mods and leave the extra unmodded files in.
Step 3: Create new Partition w/partition builder, open Wiiscrubber and replace old partition with modded partition.
*Failed* -Freezes at stage select

Process 2:
Step 1: Open iso in Wiiscrubber
Step 2: replace all files with mods one by one in Wiiscrubber
*Failed* -freezes at character select

Process 3:
Step 1: open iso in Wiiscrubber 1.4 and "Save" Partition file
Step 2: delete old files
Step 3: Replace with modded files
Step 4: Create new Partition w/partition builder, open Wiiscrubber and replace old partition with modded partition.
*Failed* -freezes at character select

WTF am I doing wrong?

I use Step 2. Maybe one of your files is screwing the ISO up?

actually if he's having issues with partition builder i know one of the newest versions of wii scrubber had a bad builder. try to find partition builder 1.1. 1.4 doesn't work right and corrupts data. i forgot to mention that earlier

I did it! I actually did it! even though no one cares, but I did it...

I went back with the first process and I found out that it was the addition of custom stages that screwed it up.

Man I wish I could use a Stage expansion and custom stages, but I doubt that's possible doing that inside an iso. But unless anyone knows how to, I'm just going to have to replace levels instead of adding them.
