Title: No File Directories
Post by: Smashcakes on April 25, 2014, 08:10:17 PM
I was following http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=12169.0 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=12169.0) (The Complete N00B's Guide to Brawl Hacking) and skipped the adding code process for Riivolution because I didn't want any codes. Riivolution loaded fine and everything, but at the third section "Downloading and Using Brawl Hacks" it shows a directory not on my SD Card, which only has an "apps" folder and a "riivolution" folder, with some files in each. Should I just create new folders to get the directories or did I miss something?

This is obviously a N00B question, considering basically everybody here has gone through all of this and succeeded, but this is my first time here so I know absolutely nothing  :kdance:

P.S. For those of you too lazy to open the link, this is the directory I'm talking about:
D:\private\wii\app\RSBE01\pf\Fighter\(Character Name)\

The codes are necessary to get these working, so I really don't know why you would want to miss them.

If there's a folder or directory you can't find then create it.

I tried adding codes but the directories are still missing. That, and my Riivolution only says "File Code Replacement" with Enable and Disable, but they both don't do anything.

This is my SD Card:
Root:
apps>riivolution>boot.elf, icon, meta, readme

codes>RSBE01.gct

riivolution>config>RSBE.xml
                >RSBE01>codehandler.bin, ocarina.xml
                >Codes.txt
                >SSBBfiles.xml

*Codes.txt has the Infinite Jump Code and the P1 Infinite Jump Code from geckocodes.org

Would you mind sending me your SSBBfiles.xml? It would help to know what the folder hierarchy is supposed to be.

Use these

http://www.mediafire.com/?ztw5dxyejmq (http://www.mediafire.com/?ztw5dxyejmq)
http://www.smashmods.com/downloads/brawlplus/codehandler.bin (http://www.smashmods.com/downloads/brawlplus/codehandler.bin)

The one you were using loaded very little. It says in the xml where to put things.

Thanks for the codehandler.bin file, but the first link you gave me is dead.

But for the record, what was the difference between what you gave me and what I already have? I'm sure you know what you are doing but I'm just wondering if the one I have is outdated or something.

There's the xml. The one you were using loaded very little. This loads more than just menu stuff.

Thanks a lot for the XML. I'm wondering, do you have to be using Project M in order to use this (since the file is called projectm)? I'm just trying to mod regular Brawl.

No, it doesn't require Project M (it can't even load the new version). In the xml it says where to put files for vBrawl.

Thanks a lot! One last thing, is the rest of my SD Card correct?

Put your files in /brawlmods/custom1. Then the go in the fighter, info, etc. folders. If you have a .gct without the file patch code, put it in the custom1 folder.

When you say "files" do you mean the XML and codehandler.bin? If you don't mind, do you have a picture of your SD Card?

Again, thanks for helping me through this :)

By files I mean your pac and pcs files.

1. Does the projectm.xml need to be named anything else or can I keep the name? Should I put the XML where my SSBBfiles one is (the riivolution folder), as ironically, it says where everything should be put except itself ;D?

2. Do you create all the fighter/stage/etc. folders, do they create themselves, or do you add them from the Google Drive Data Partition?

3. Finally, what is the difference between custom1/2/3 and vbrawl? Which should I use for modding normal Brawl?

I realize I'm asking a lot of questions. Hopefully I'll ask less the sooner I get familiar with all of this.  :af:
Later posts shouldn't be as long. Thanks for continuing to help me through this, as I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

1. The xml goes in the riivolution folder.

2. You make the folders.

3. Just use custom1.

Thanks! If RSBE01.gct goes into the "custom1" folder, do I need the "codes" folder anymore?

Only if you use Gecko, Project M Launcher, or a different xml.

Alright, I set everything up. In the Brawl Data Partition, should the folders only contain the files you download or should they contain everything in the Partition?

Ex. If your mod only changes the "FitPitFinal.pac", is that file the only one you put in the "pit" folder, or should you add stuff like "FitPit.pac" and "FitPitMotionEtc.pac" or do all mods come with all of the contents in a folder?

You only need modified files. So say you have a Pit moveset. All you had changed is FitPit.pac and FitPitMotionEtc.pac. Just put them in the pit folder.

Should I copy the files in the "pit" folder in the "fighter" folder in the "custom1" folder to the "fighter" folder in the "textures" folder as well as the "movesets" folder?

Put it all in custom1. In Riivolution, make sure custom1 is the only thing on.
