Title: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: EnKaYea on June 18, 2016, 06:56:38 PM Is it possible to swap models between characters that do not have the similar bone structure through adding/changing bones. For example, I want to place a Metal Sonic model which is over sonic to a PSA that only works with wolf models. Is it possible to alter the sonic model to enable it to work on the wolf PSA?

Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: Direact_N1 on June 18, 2016, 09:22:39 PM I'm a bit curious about this, too. I want to put a model that is made for Sonic over Lucas, or possibly Mario.
Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: ThePhantomPsychic on June 18, 2016, 10:47:27 PM Well, this would be so much easier if we knew the amount of bones sonic has compared to mario, so, (ripped right off of smashboards...) is this list!
It is possible, but, most likely you will need to re-rig the model, removing 20 bones in the process. Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: Ebola16 on June 19, 2016, 01:38:28 AM It also depends on if the bones you are editing are weighted or not. Adjusting the bone hierarchy with unweighted bones is simple and doesn't require re-rigging. Once weighed bones become involved (which is usually the case), editing the rig is also usually required.

It is possible, but, most likely you will need to re-rig the model, removing 20 bones in the process. I'm pretty sure Sonic is basically just standard rigging, though, with the exception of his quills, so the only re-rigging that should theoretically be redone would be his hair(his quills), before removing the unneeded bones. It also depends on if the bones you are editing are weighted or not. Adjusting the bone hierarchy with unweighted bones is simple and doesn't require re-rigging. Once weighed bones become involved (which is usually the case), editing the rig is also usually required. Yeah, I talked a little bit about this earlier. Usually, though, the model doesn't need re-rigging, unless it's, say, a common biped to a sworded character, or something like that, where it's easy re-rigging, or something like Pikachu to Charizard, which is a crazy pain that would basically explode in polygons; i.e. In these cases, you have to rig the entire character from scratch, basically, unless you don't mind half the model being explody. This happened with when I was porting Feraligatr over to Squirtle, but I didn't do any re-rigging, because otherwise it would explode. Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: Direact_N1 on June 19, 2016, 04:00:00 PM Hmmm...
I'm still new on this whole concept, but is "rigging" setting the model to the character's skeleton? What are "bones" in this, too? I'm not even sure if the model uses Sonic's quill bones, which I guess would make porting easier? Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: windhunter7 on June 19, 2016, 04:08:07 PM If it doesn't use his quills bones, it would be much easier. However, vice versa, if you wanted to port a model from another character to Sonic and that character had quills(For example, Shadow or Silver), the quills would be not animated, or you'd need to edit the model in 3DS Max or have rigging experience in BrawlBox, with Blender.
But yeah, if the quills aren't rigged on the character you're porting, you shouldn't need to re-rig; only add/remove and rename bones. Also can any of you point me in the direction of a tutorial on re rigging models? Title: Re: A Question with swapping Models between Characters Post by: windhunter7 on June 19, 2016, 07:04:40 PM Yep. Below is a link to BlackJax's tutorial on how to import via 3DS Max(Which involves rigging in that program instead of in BrawlBox, and it also can be used to edit existing imports in such ways as vertexing or UV editing)

There's also this Maya tutorial but it is likely outdated and I have never used it: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=58027.0 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=58027.0) |
