Title: System Menu 4.3 Question
Post by: JDub on June 22, 2010, 01:45:13 PM
Ok, I'm a little confused here about System Menus here. I installed the Homebrew Channel on 4.1 using Smash Stack. I accidentally updated to 4.2 but the Homebrew Channel was still there. Now that System Menu 4.3 is here I looked it up on Wiibrew and it said Smash Stack was a work around of Bannerbomb. Does this mean my Homebrew Channel will not be affected by 4.3 and would this explain why it didn't get deleted before?

It seems from other crisises, Installing to 4.3 would indeed delete you hombrew, and it would be near impossible to get back.

The reason is because we've, i believe, hacked our way through 4.2, but the "changelog" of the 4.3 effectively states:
Quote
Changes

Deletes the Homebrew Channel and DVDX, title IDs HAXX, DVDX, JODI, DISC, and DISK.
Now uses IOS80.
IOS254 stubbed BootMii is deleted.
Fixed Bannerbomb less stupidly this time.
Added IOS58.
HackMii Installer Userland+Syscall IOS exploit removed
NANDFS privilege escalation fixed
ES_AddTitleFinish now checks the signature (Trucha Bug Restorer and similar won't work anymore)

Basically, DO NOT update at all at this point.  Fortunately, Super Mario Galaxy 2 only updates your Wii to System Menu 4.2, which works with most Homebrew applications.

Unfortunately, many of the Wii games revealed during the E3 event may require us to update to System Menu 4.3 when they're released.  But by then, a workaround may likely be established.

Yah that was my only worry. I was going to be pissed if playing Metroid: Other M meant losing my hacks.

Does it delete Riivolution? I'd be surprised if it didn't, but you never know.

Just a tip for everyone, If your wii is off the internet when you first start the game(unplug the router), than it wont force the update. I don't know if someone said it already or not.

Basicly, when you get a new game, unplug the internet(however you hooked it up) from the wii and load it and I wont force an update. Then play however many times you want freely without it asking about updates

You never really have to update to play a game, at least not CD ones. I don't know for sure on wiiware games
