Title: How to prevent the "file size is too big" in error in STASH
Post by: flyinggoblin87 on August 24, 2009, 12:52:04 PM
I noticed that several people have said that when they recompile stage textures in STASH,
(Regardless of wether or not they even edited the textures) STASH gives them an error saying that the file size is too big.

To fix this, find the texture(If there is one, I'm not sure they all have them) named "Tshadow1."
It should look like a vague silhouette of Mario. Make this texture smaller by converting it to grayscale(Thanks VILE). This should fix the problem. If you still have this error, you still need to make the other textures simpler. make any black and white textures grayscale, or reduce palettes of indexed textures.
Sorry if this sounds confusing, I sometimes have trouble explaining things.

P.S. To make a texture grayscale, go to Image>Mode>Grayscale

Hope this helps people!

Actually its not the detail in the texture that affects tga size, its the BPP, image type and image size. Make sure they are all 32 bpp and make all black and white textures greyscale format. You could also lower the colors of indexed textures.

TPL files are a certain equation smaller than tga files, so a completely black tga would be the same as an indepth face drawing.

I'm going to try this, Hopefully I'll finally be able to make that Mario Bros. hack I've been working on.

I tried again, and it told me to simplify textures?

Some stages just dont work with STASH at all.
